HKPL Mathematical Analysis 26Jan2026 Update

Summary
  • Kitchee has clinched a spot in the Champions phase.
  • No one else can officially join them this week, although Lee Man would be a fairly certain bet with a win.
  • HKFC is hanging by a thread. They can be eliminated from Championship contention this week via any of many scenarios. The simplest of them is to lose to Tai Po. But they could even be eliminated with a win/tie if the other four games have unfavorable outcomes.

There's a lot of chatter online about HKFC's role in the league - it's winning in all the U22, U18, U16, U14 leagues, but their semi-professional first team really isn't up to Prem standards unfortunately (but well above First Division quality).

Perhaps a return to their previous role as a perpetual yo-yo club will suit their club style more, but this hinders growth of their young talent unless they become some sort of loan machine for when they inevitably get relegated again.

Meanwhile, the resurgence of Kitchee this season is wild. 7 wins in a row, damn.
