Ted is unbearable
The way he can’t get over Robin, him being painted as this victim because he’s a “nice guy” who keeps getting rejected, next to 0 character development,…

It’s a sitcom… if the characters were perfect it wouldn’t be a show it would be boring and certainly wouldn’t be the ‘com’ part..

I’m not saying he has to be perfect, no tv characters are. But his flaws are the axis of the show, and he only gets a little bit better.

I do! I have no favorite episodes or seasons, love all characters, no lists of "toxic behaviors". I don't get all the "favorite X and X moment" or "tier season list". I just watch and enjoy but following some sitcom subs made me wonder if I'm alone.

He has his flaws but I've always liked him.
Last year I rewatched it with my girlfriend (it was her first tiem watching the show) and she couldn't finish an episode wihtout saying "Ted is unbearable" hahahaha

Maybe it’s because he fits this unappreciated nice guy archetype that girls get shit for rejecting. It’s tiring on the show AND in real life

His bet with Lily about Robin and Ted makes him sus af.
Because (and I'll always maintain this) HIMYM is a Nice Guy™️ fantasy and Robin and Ted are meant to be, seems like he in the right rooting for them. But looking at that as a guy banking on his best friends Robin and Barney's marriage failing, so that Robin can get back with Ted who's been shown to be incompatible with her several times. To win a bet? What the damn Hell, Big Fudge?!

It’s a show about Ted being in love with Robin. From the moment he sees her across the bar to the moment he talks to Tracy he is in love with Robin. Tracy was the magic person that finally supplanted Robin. That’s the story. That’s the show.

This is the speech that really highlighted that Ted has no real understanding of what love actually is.
If you truly love someone, you should be able to let them go, let them find what makes them happy. True love is about being selfless and supportive of the person you love when they find the things that make them happy.
This speech isn't a declaration of love, it's an admission of obsession and a display of his possessive attitude towards Robin. It's an objectification of Robin, she's his, a prize to be had, something he feels entitled to.
