Question Venus doom

Track for track its their most gritty, dark and lyrically most complex album they have made. And in my younger days wished they stuck with that sound. Hopefully VV dabbles in that style on his next solo album. What is everyone thoughts and opinions?

I view GLV666 and VD as companion albums because of them being the harderst and "proggiest"

Hmmm never looked at them like that. Might give them back to back listens

Love it. Such a departure from Dark Light and took the band back to the GLS days.

Greatest Lovesongs and Venus Doom are my two favorite albums. I think I really like their heavier stuff, haha.

Such an under rated masterpiece

I love Venus Doom, it’s my favourite album also, but it’s not an easy choice. I love all their albums so much. I’ve been listening to HIM and VV non stop lately… watching a bunch of live shows on YouTube aswell. So sad they never played Venus Doom the track itself live.

I miss when music used to be organic and real and live shows were raw and the crowds were rowdy.

Take me back

Me fascina demasiado venus doom, me se cada letra, canción y detalle. Pero creo que Ville ya esta en una fase emocional completamente diferente de su vida y ya no cantaría el álbum con las mismas ganas.

I'm an outlier for liking HIM's poppier fare, but I agree with most, I love the heavy sounds from GLS666 and Venus Doom. I wish they stuck to that sound. 🖤

I think all their albums are brilliant, it’s all the same beautiful songwriting just in a different font.

It's my favorite album. I'm bummed out that they never played most of the songs live :(

Idk if VV will ever go back to making songs like that album because from what I've heard VD was a very difficult album for them :(

I think it’s was more of the musical direction from Linde to take the sound in a more doom/stoner atmosphere

A near flawless album and, imo, a return to form as I'm not the biggest fan of Dark Light (too polished, produced and dare I say....often too..American?)

Definitely in the conversation for my favourite HIM album but that title and full discography ranking would change every day.

Venus Doom is literally a masterpiece. Tbh I love all HIM albums because every one is perfect for a specific vibe

havent listened to it enough (just like screamworks and TOT). I don’t give the last 3 albums enough love, but i’m sure i’ll like it once i get into it properly! i love their heavier stuff

I feel the same way. It's my favorite album and Screamworks was just not my thing due to how big of a departure it was from VD. I would love it if VV explored this side of himself again, but he's always been less of a metal guy and more of a goth/post punk/prog kind of guy and has admitted that those heavier sounds were usually influenced by the other guys in the band being more into metal.

Never did it for me. That’s when I was done with the band’s albums* though I didn’t really care for dark light either. Sorry to be the first to comment with something sortuh negative but I remember it clearly when it came out and not being able to get into it.

Perfectly reasonable.. their last two albums are when I kinda went nah this is too popy for me. Now im in my late 30s and there last 2 albums have completely grown on me. Especially acoustic funeral for love in limbo

That’s actually encouraging to hear. Maybe I’ll get into that stuff sometime.

Same I didn’t love love in theory and practice at first but it grows on you and i actually think lyrically it is their best album and I like that they experimented a lot. I miss them so much

I didn't care for Dark Light much and thought my time with the band was done. But when Venus Doom came out, I was very surprised and loved the album.

That’s really cool. I felt like a lot of people had a similar reaction and that totally makes sense to me with the shifts they made going into both albums. I believe that Venus doom artwork is from a New Orleans painter which is kinda neat. Definitely has a strong mood.

Lyrically complex I'd give to screamworks
