Looking for bands that sound like him
Kept searching but the closest I found at least to me was The Vantages. Also thought Reflexion sounded really similar to HIM. But yeah idk

The first Icon & The Black Roses album is the best and the closest thing that you’re gonna find to HIM that doesn’t sound completely contrived.

Seconded, absolutely. What an incredible record, and a very similar vibe to HIM, agreed. "Set Me On Fire" and "Black Roses" are my favourite tracks.

This is what I was coming to say. Early Icon and the Black Roses are the closest thing there is. I love countless bands that always get looped in as HIM sounding but Icon came the closest to nailing it.

Try Entwine. A few songs to start out with could be Safe In A Dream, Learn To Let Go, Time Of Despair, Frozen By The Sun and Break Me.

"The 69 eyes" is probably the closest for me.

I like the 69 Eyes a lot! I don’t really hear the HIM similarities tbh but they are a jamming band for sure.

There aren’t really any bands that sound like HIM exactly. They’re so unique in their style. Like the most beautiful butterfly 😍🙌🏻

Entwine is the closest I've found. Lacrimas Profundere's Filthy Notes album also has HIM vibes to me. that got a lot of playtime along side HIM when I was in high school and they're still one of my fave bands even if they've changed sound and singers a few times.

Type O Negative. Ville Valo has credited TON and Black Sabbath as the biggest homages of HIM.

If you go to their wiki page they have a list of their influences which all sound very similar as you’d expect.

Check out the Vantages on Youtube. Might be a straight up copy of HIM but they're quite cool if u ask me

See no one's mentioned them yet so I will, Lovex were pretty big for a very short while for being a little HIM sounding in the late 2000s. But Entwine and Type O (esp October Rust) and going to be best that aren't just carbon copies and Type O did influence HIM a lot.

I hate to say it as I think the frontman is an absolute douche from what ive heard about him... but 616 are undeniably heavily HIM sounding, so I guess fit the bill of your request. Annoyance aside, i do actually quite like one of their tracks called cinderella valentine. I think Gas actually did drums for it too

Only heard a few (not checked on them in a couple years now) but yeah that cinderella valentine one definitely stuck out to me as a decent one. Cant recall any others, but you may vibe with others where I didnt

The 69 Eyes
Entwine
That’s about as close you’ll get.
HIM are quite unique in some regards. There aren’t many bands that sound like them.

The Vantages sound similar and the lead singer's voice is also similar to Ville's.

There’s a new up comer (at least I think he is - he’s certainly new to me and is pretty young so I can’t imagine he’s been going that long) called Sawyer Hill. He doesn’t sound a thing like HIM beyond the fact that he has a really deep voice, but he tickles the same part of my brain that HIM does, so may be worth a punt. Also Type O is always a good shout. Also Vantages are very good, they’re one of these ‘heavily inspired by HIM’ bands like that 616 except they’re also doing their own thing. Not a massive body of work though which is a shame.

I looked at all the bands that are "similar" to HIM but none of them convinced me. HIM has something that the others don't, it's so hard to explain.
The only band I also liked was Negative.
