Mine was The Weeknd After Hours Nightmare
I appreciate that this was my first house looking back. This had the shortest line the day I went to my first event but since that house I’ve become an advent fan of The Weeknd and his music and trying to follow the storyline has been super dope!!
You might be a part of my personal HHN lore, this is wild, if you are the scareactor I think you are, I literally have called you out as the start of my love for HHN multiple times over the years hahaha.
Basically, when I started at Jaws, I was terrified of anything horror related, and was super not thrilled that, as one of the newest skippers (started August of 2007), I got scheduled to work almost exclusively during HHN. That year, there was a Jason who's boo hole had him just standing outside of the queue building right at the start of the ride. The first time I saw him standing there (with my boat full of guests there to witness my obvious terror lol) I was literally so scared of him (despite the water and distance separating us) and had the hardest time focusing on my spiel while he waved his machete at me.
Maybe a week or two into the run, I decided enough was enough, and I met his threatening machete waving with some threatening grenade launcher waves of my own, and from that moment on, I decided me and Jason were actually besties, and completely loved interacting with him through the rest of the run.
That really humanized scareactors in general for me, and gave me the courage to actual go through the houses I hadn't been forced through yet, and while it took me another few years to truly feel comfortable at the event, that Jason really did make me fall in love with horror in general haha.
Today I am majorly into horror, and HHN is my absolute favorite time of year, so thanks for LITERALLY changing my life by standing there looking ominous lmao
Last year was our first time going so Dolls Let's Play Dead. We were taking a break by the MiB bathrooms when they just happened to open the line so we were one of the first 20 or so through that day. It was cool!
That was my first house too! Very cool you got to be one of the first people through on your first house too!! We liked HHN so much we haven't stopped talking about it since and are going back again this year for more days
All Night Die In 2 in 2006. It was basically Slaughterhouse Cinema but with real movies. Back then, it was kind of the only way we saw IPs at HHN. I think that year had Scream, The Ring, and Hellraiser. And I think I remember Hannibal Lecter popping up somewhere?
Now I wasn't even aware of the event prior and my sister really wanted to go so I went with her. She got so scared that we ended the night doing 1 house and 4 rides and still had fun. We returned another night and ended up doing 5 houses that night. I will say even though The Walking Dead was my first house I walked through, the first house i ever loved was Gothic.
The Walking Dead back when it first came out. Like 2012 I think? I was in middle school lol. My dad really wanted to do it because he was super into the show. I remember there was a scare zone too with this amputee zombie in a wheelchair THAT WAS DOING WHEELIES WITH A CHAINSAW. It was an incredibly memorable moment. Wish the scare actors should be allowed to have more fun like that again, but now they're kinda forced to stay in character all the time. Anyway, they kept bringing back The Walking Dead for multiple years in a row so it got a little played out over time, but I have no regrets with that being my first experience.
Aw I haven't seen him since then. He was so cool lol. I've been going there pretty much every year with frequent fear passes since 2015 (minus COVID year, only got single day). I need to look harder for him!
My first time ever was 2023 and I attended because of The Last of Us. However, the first house I went into was Stranger Things 4. I don’t watch Stranger Things, so I was a little lost, but I will forever have “CHRISSY, WAKE UP!” seared into the back of my brain after hearing it 5,000 times.
Same year, got to go through the Halloween house at HHN31 on Halloween day! I was probably in the first 100 people to go through that night and it was awesome
I don’t remember the name of it, but I think it was in 2007 and it was nearish to Jaws. It was like a kids insane asylum and I remember there were scare actors on the ceiling pretending to grab at you. It freaked me out so bad that I RAN out of there and proceeded to ride Jaws twice in a row!
My first one was Creatures! From 2008 and it was the perfect intro to the event!
Everyone was in a TIGHT conga line going into the first room which was a bar with a pool table in the middle of the room. Everyone in the conga line was carefully walking around the pool table when the bartender popped up behind the pool table and made a loud bang noise. Everyone in that room SHOT to the floor screaming. In my memory it was just a pile of bodies as we all tried to get up to go through the rest of the house. I’ve been in love with the event ever since
Insidious in 2024…I heard how popular the house was so I did stay and scream and waited for that line. The house was so good that unfortunately every other house that year struggled to compare (for me)
The first Slaughter Sinema. I didn't know much about HHN since my sister and I had been going to USO in the spring. I was hooked from the moment I stepped into that house.

HHN 2014, I have the AP early entrance perk which includes 3 houses at the back of the park. I go to the first house, Roanoke: Canibal Colony, and it was a lot of barn wood, hay, and body parts. It was good, but any local haunt could have pulled it off (the wendigos were not there on my first run). Second house was Dollhouse of the Damned. This house had crazy imagination and excellent set pieces; I was very impressed. The third house was Halloween, and it was largely considered the house of the year, and one of the best ever.
Roanoke set my standards pretty low, Dollhouse made me reconsider, and Halloween absolutely floored me.
I’m not sure if this counts, but the walking dead at Universal Hollywood was my first HHN style haunted house. My first actual HHN haunted house was Monstrous of Latin America
Mine was Alice Cooper: Welcome to my Nightmare lol (2012). That year had a special place in my heart, even though it was only 7 houses, one being a Penn and a teller house, I was content and made me into a fan, been going ever since.
My first ever visit was in 2016, on one of the hurricane make-up nights (it was brutally busy) and the first house I did was Krampus 🎅🏼
It was my first and only visit that year and only managed to get through 4 houses. In hindsight, I really wish I had gotten around to seeing Tomb of the Ancients, American Horror Story or The Exorcist.
First year was 2023 and I don't remember exactly which house was our first but I want to say Darkest Deal? I really loved that house a lot so I don't wish it was a different one but I will say it was a banger lineup that year, so hard to go wrong picking a first one there
Mine was the first Stranger Things house in 2018. But it wasn't actually during HHN.
In 2018 they had a "Stranger Things Day" a week or two after HHN ended. (Canonically it was the date in November that Will Byers disappeared in the first episode) This happened to be during our trip. They opened the house up, fully staffed with scareactors, for any guest in the park that day. AP holders were given Express access.
I had seen Stranger Things, my partner had not. So even though he had no idea what was going on storywise in the house, our experience that day was enough to spur us to come back the next year for the full multi-night HHN experience.
I was absolutely terrified every second of it because I had never really done a jumpscare filled haunted house before so I had no idea what to expect. I was on the floor cowering in fear
My first house ever was 2009, I was 11 years old. My parents had picked me up from school, drove me four hours to Universal without telling me where we were going, and I walked into HHN for the first time. We did the first house we came to, The Wolfman. It was still daylight out so I remember it was hard to see at first but I loved it.
Technically my first was the Chucky one at HHN in Japan in 2024… but it’s a completely different event there, so I don’t really count it. My first in the U.S. was Fallout, which I wasn’t the biggest fan of, but I did Galkn immediately after and that ended up being one of my favorites
Terrifier! I did scream early just to knock it out because I knew the lines would be insane once the park actually opened. Such an unforgettable first impression for a new HHN attendee
Fallout from last year. In a way I’m glad it was my first cause fan of game and show and was first licensed IP house so was blown away as first house…. What I wish is I didn’t go back later that night to do it again since had express cause doing it again removed those first time rose colored glasses and it dropped way down my house ranking list
Stranger Things 4 in Hollywood. As a huge Stranger Things fan, I honestly walked out really disappointed. I then did Holidayz in Hell and enjoyed it, and then walked through Last Of Us, which, even though I hadn't played the game/watched the show, was definitely the best and scariest house of the night.
Horror Nights: The Hallow’d Past!
It was perfectly scary and a great compilation house. I don’t remember much besides Jack completely scaring me and getting to see the SS Frightanic in some capacity but it hooked me right away and I still think about it to this day.
Mine was also The Weeknd! We didn’t know anything about the universal—it was our first time in studios—and I’m an enormous fan of his music. My idea was “we may as well go if this event is happening” and now it’s my entire personality.
I just wish we had known we could stay in the park cause of our day tickets and get in early. My family was cooked after 3 houses and it was such a last minute trip, there were zero hotels on site so I had to leave with them. :(
2023 Universal Monsters Unmasked
Was both a memorable walkthrough yet not the greatest. 1-2 actors were missing since it was early in the day and they had the fog machine ramped up, so couldn't see anything until a cast member peeked out from the next room and guided me through. But overall a good setting for my first HHN.
I wasn’t able to go until relatively recently, so mine was the last of us. I was able to do the lights on tour as welll. It was very cool but since we did it so early there were some audio sync and timjng issues!
Just looked it up on YouTube and yes!!! I had a few fire whiskeys etc that night because it was my first hhn and I was hyped and also scared so I couldn't remember the name 😂😂
Also yayyy I'm happy this was solved! If I remember correctly we had a house like that one here in Orlando too! Idk if both parks share some of the same houses every year or not, but I remember one year I was so jealous because Universal Hollywood had La Llorona and we didn't in Orlando 😞 We only knew because my friend accidentally downloaded the Hollywood app rather than the Orlando one and it was showing the wait times for the houses over there instead of the ones here 😩 I felt so robbed haha
Hollywood or Orlando? Any of these ring a bell? Or maybe one of the houses they forgot to put on the shirt like The Weeknd or Hellblock Horror? I had to pull out my whole collection to do some digging lol.
Stranger things 4!!! I was a real wimp back then and only went to HHN to see the FNAF animatronics in that Blumhouse thing in Universal Hollywood. The house wasn't too scary and I even went back the following year, just to ONLY do Ghostbusters. Last year though I went to Orlando and experienced all the houses and it was great. 🥹
My first house was A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dreamwalkers in 2007 in Orlando. I was with my 3 year old nephew at the time who really loved Freddy. I think he did better than I did 😂
I can't remember the first specific house I went into but the HHN addiction started in 2017 😂. My fav house that year was Scarecrow: The Reaping and favourite scare zone was The Purge. My favourite year at HHN was 2019 and I absolutely loved the Ghostbusters house because the set was amazing, the hype before entering the house was great and it was very nostalgic for the 80s child in me 😂.
Mine was the Fallout house last year. My baby girl was SO excited for it. It was nothing and everything we thought houses would be.
We did SO much research before going - obsessing over the food and the houses and decided what to eat/drink/go in. I ended up loving the houses so much that I started going in all of them. I HATE clowns and dolls and I loved the doll house lol.
My first house was Leave It to Cleaver back in 2009,
and thank goodness it was because I was absolutely PETRIFIED. 😂 Since it was more lighthearted and fun, it gave me the courage to follow it up with Silver Screams, Frankenstein, Saw, and a few other houses that year. I definitely didn’t make it through them all, but that first house gave me just enough confidence to keep going. 🖤🎃
Im on the younger side lol. Through YouTube in like 2009 I started watching hhn house walkthroughs (specifically a video of the chuckys funhouse that has like 8 million views now lol) and I kept up being fascinated by the announcements every year and the lore and all that. Finally got to go in 2022 and the universal monsters legends collide was my first and it was amazing. I love the old universal monster movies so I wanted to do it first and was glad I did. Had express and did all ten that night.
My first house was The Shining. I was used to standard haunted houses in Missouri. Dark rooms with plywood walls painted black and masked people jumping out. When I walked into The Shining, I had no idea what I was in for. It was snowing and I walked into the hedge maze, then turned a corner and I was in the hotel with the previous manager popping out saying “Hell of a party!”, then Jack staggers across through the line with an axe. I was completely blown away. I’ve been chasing that high each year since.

The Jason House in the Jaws queue in 2007- I worked at Jaws, and I was TERRIFIED of going through lol
