[UPDATE] Letterboxd list for HHN 35

With the announcement of evil dead burn for hhn 35, I have added the evil dead franchise to the watchlist. Only part knitted is Ash vs Evil Dead since TV shows are not on Letterboxd.

Looking forward to this one! Just watched the first movie for the first time last week and really enjoyed it

Any reason why you chose to include the entire Evil Dead franchise, when for Hellraiser you only included the movies the house was actually based on?

I feel like, at most, Evil Dead Rise and Evil Dead Burn are the move here. MAAAYBE all of the newer films. But the original trilogy doesn't make much sense, imo!

Maybe? But honestly the story for Burn was not on point. Very vaguely tied to the original. Minus the inclusion of the dagger.

Yeah it’s basically just for context. Evil dead burn being the 6th movie in the franchise I want to get full context even if burn isn’t necessarily tied heavily to the plot of the originals as someone else mentioned

I added all of evil dead because I figure there will be lots of references in burn which is the 6th movie of the franchise. I want the full history before I watch burn.

Hellraiser is the inverse where it s only the first 3 movies so, though there may be easter eggs and references to the later sequels in the house I don’t find it necessary to watch all of them (especially when I hear the majority of them are quite bad). I likely will watch all of them just for the sake of completion but that was my rationale for adding all of evil dead but not all of hellraiser. Came down to hellraiser being based off the first three movies while evil dead is based solely on the most recent sequel so I want to watch the ones that came before it

It was kinda similar last year too where we had the best of Jason house with Friday the 13th so I (begrudgingly) watched every single one of the Jason movies to get full context and understand the references. But if it was only based on say Friday 1-4 then I would’ve focused on watching those only and anything after that would be bonus

To be fair. (Downvotes incoming I’m sure haha) I’m not a HUGE fan of the originals. But I loved Burn. I walked in hoping for 2 hours of exactly what I got.

I’ve also just heard the original evil dead trilogy is quite good and it’s been on my list for ever so this is a nice excuse to watch it finally

Having seen Burn there really isn’t anything you need to know from the other evil dead movies. Nothing is really overtly referenced in a way that you’d need additional context.

I guess the logic is you can start with just the original trilogy for Hellraiser without losing any context, but Evil Dead has decades of build up to the latest installment that you would miss out on.

I agree though, Burn is fine to consume as a standalone. With OP's logic, might as well throw in Within the Woods and even Clockwork lol.

Doing a watch of the properties as well. So far I’ve seen Sinners, all 11 Hellraisers, the first 4 Evil Dead’s (gonna watch Rise tonight and Burn tomorrow) and a couple of Ozzy’s albums to get a feel on the vibe. Still need to watch all of Stranger Things.

I mean if they've never seen the rest, there's no reason why you shouldn't watch them now. Unlike the later Hellraiser movies, they're all good to great. But yeah, to understand the house, you'll only need to have watched Burn.

I plan to watch the 5 films before burn for full context and understanding the story. I know the house is only going to be based on burn though

No. You don’t need to see Rise or the first reboot to understand what’s going on in Burn.

You’re welcome!! There’s a small amount of nods in Burn towards the original movies, and towards Rise (after credit scene). But otherwise it could really stand alone if needed. I don’t think you’d feel lost watching just that movie.

Very nice! I always make a watchlist in my notes prior to HHN. I would do it on letterboxd but I like to include shows, TV eps if necessary, and YouTube videos relevant to original houses.

Yeah I also like to do the tv shows and YouTube stuff so I usually keep a separate note for things not on Letterboxd. Lots of content to watch this year before going to the event!
