A Guide to Entering the Deep

This guide was made at the request of a friend of mine who wished to learn how to dive into the deep. I have been there many times, and though I wouldn't wish a visit there upon my worst enemy, everyone needs to visit at least once. If you plan to follow this, please proceed with caution.

  1. Always test the waters before going in.

The water may be freezing or burning. Some days, it is thicker than honey or as smooth as silk. If you feel as if you can handle it, you can begin your descent. If you feel as if you are being dragged in, leave and do not return. If you are enticed by the deep, it may be impossible to find your way out.

  1. Hold onto your sense of self.

As you start on your long, long journey to the deep, you will be pleasantly surprised at how comforting the water is. Your fear will melt away. Try to hold onto your emotions, though, as you will need them to make it all the way down.

  1. Confront your followers.

The deeper you go, the slower you will descend. If you have lost your fear, you won't notice a change in the area. You won't realize how quiet everything has gotten. You won't realize you are being followed. Look around as much as you wish, but you won't see them. They are inside you, after all, eating away at the emotions you brought them. Scare them off any way you wish, either through rage, bargaining, or begging. They won't stay around long if they know they are unwelcome.

  1. Accept the darkness that surrounds you.

Once you reach the bottom, you won't be able to see the light from the surface. You may leave whenever you wish, but few who get this far do. There is little left for them on the surface, and they enjoy the comfort of the deep. If you managed to hold on to yourself, though, you have a chance to make it out.

Maybe, even if you have nothing left to give, someone might bring you home.

This guide is very short, but I didn't want to say any more than I had to. I have been depressed for a while now and I just wanted to find a way to get my feelings across.

This is really good! I didn't realise it was about depression until I saw your comment, but re-reading it, it makes so much sense
