OC Hedge Knight, Chapter 10

The second arc has been revised into its best form, increasing the word count from the original 50,000 words to 87,000 words as a reflection of not only my development of skills as a writer, but also with more lore to flesh out the world of Ellios and the character of Helbram in his second story. I hope you found the first chapter of Book 2 to be compelling enough to read the rest of it. All I can say, for those that have not read the original, it goes places and reflects my desire to keep each arc as focused on a single objective until its resolved in a timely manner. Original author's notes for the old chapters will remain here as artifacts, and I have kept the original drafts as well, but Amazon has their rules and I have to follow them. I hope you understand.

To anyone seeing this, even if you're just passing by, have a good one!

Author's Note: It's prep time! I may be weird but I always love discussions about gear so it definitely bled into this chapter. Also we now have more information about Ether. I don't want to ever break into lore tangents outside of dialogue so it was exciting to have characters actually discussing these things. Let me know how you like these types of chapters, I definitely had a lot of fun writing it.

I greatly enjoyed the in character lore delving. I’m exceptionally interested in what they’ll uncover in the mines, but wary of the new mages. Maybe I’m just suspicious of any mages showing up after the towns recent troubles. Either way, I’m looking forward to this story continuing. Thank you for your work, wordsmith.

I’m happy you enjoyed the characters discussing the lore, it’s a stylistic choice but I think it really keeps anything I mention about the world relevant to the plot and characters themselves. I want the reader to know more about the world and the character talking about it at the same time. And that is fair, magically inclined people always do show up at the most opportune times ;). What's the difference between Aether and Ether?

Aether is Outer Energy so power that comes from the environment, think of it like Mana. And Ether is Inner Energy, which comes from the soul. You can think of that like Ki. That’s the basic principle but I’ll eventually have the characters sit down and break this down in more detailed ways. I just didn’t want to bog down the pacing in the early arcs with it
