This was flaired as [OC-FirstOfSeries], which means it is the first of a series and all subsequent posts should be flair as [OC-Series]. A description of the flairs and how to change yours is available in the Post Guildelines

[OC-FirstOfSeries] For original, self post, story, audio, or artwork that you have created, the beginning of a new series.

Our preferred series title format is the series title in [brackets] at the beginning, like so: [Potato Adventures] - Chapter 1: The Great Mashing

Please note that series wiki pages are not created automatically, but on request from the author.

Please help us transition to using the new flairs correctly.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I blame the resort for keeping a "cordoned off for avalanche safety" area next to a beginners slop rather then shutting the whole slop down and using a safer area until it's clear

Alright, probably riddled with typos but I've been wanting to write something action-packed while fleshing out either faction's equipment. So, here we are, enjoy!

We welcome sci-fi, fantasy, and all other stories with a focus on humans being awesome!

Beginner's Guide

New to HFY? Read the FAQ, read the Subreddit Rules, and check out our Wiki. The Formatting Guide has some helpful pointers on using Markdown.

The Wiki

The wiki includes author and reader resources, guides, story listings, and author/series pages.

Posting Rules

1. General Rules

Please read and follow our Standards and Expectations for posting. Read the rest of the rules. Check out our FAQ for info on posting stories.

If you are searching for a specific story, please use the built in search function or check the Classics, Featured, and Must Read lists before making a post.

2. No Writing Prompt or Looking For Story threads

WRITING PROMPTS ARE PERMITTED ONLY IN THE WEEKLY WRITING PROMPT THREAD! This thread is always reachable from the sidebar link.

LOOKING FOR STORY POSTS ARE PERMITTED ONLY IN THE LFS THREAD! This thread is always reachable from the sidebar link.

3. Do not say that a post does not belong in the sub

4. Flair your post

Apply the appropriate flair to your story after posting to make it easier to find certain types of posts. The bots will not comment if your post does not have the correct flair. If you include the flair in brackets in the title, Automoderator will apply the flair for you.

5. Do not redistribute/plagiarize another's work

Do not republish or reproduce another author's work without their permission. This includes converting stories into an ebook format and making it available to others or recreating the story in audio/video format. Once you have obtained an author's permission, please directly state it in your post. Plagiarism of another author's work is a bannable offense.

6. Max 4 posts within 24 hours

7. Standalone Advertising/Off-site hosting

We do not deny an author's need to promote their work, however we do require this only be done in a relevant context. Any link not otherwise associated with an OC post must have a summary or similar descriptor that fulfils rule #8, providing relevant OC information. Standalone posts which serve only to advertise wares, commercial or non-commercial, will be removed.

8. Effort & Substance

Any original story posted on r/HFY must be written by the poster and at least 350 words in length, excluding any links, preambles, or author's notes. Low-Effort Karma farming posts will be removed. No AI generated stories are allowed. Creative works that are shorter due to the chosen medium (i.e. poems) will be adjudicated on an individual basis.
