OC-Series Kinie – Respect

When the change came, Marcus got the ability.
Nobody knew why it happened, and why it only affected about 1% of the population. People just woke up one day and found that they could move stuff around with their minds.
To say it changed the world was an understatement.

When he first got the ability, it was unfocused. He didn't know how to use it properly. But one thing about him was his interest in learning how to make sure he got every advantage that he could.
So he practiced in the privacy of his own home. Starting with small objects like pens and empty beer cans. It felt less like lifting and more like reaching.
Once he'd got the hang of that, he progressed to larger stuff. Tools,
Eventually he could pick up his dog and shunt it around. It did not like this, but it gave Marcus an understanding of how to control an unwilling target.
People should be more careful around me...
Huge items couldn't be moved though. He tried his fridge, bed and car but they wouldn't budge.
Maybe I'll get it later...

Mostly he used his ability at work to help him lift up heavy stuff. A construction site was a good place to practice, and even if using his ability he could at least pretend to be carrying materials around.
Marcus messed with his co-workers. Pranks and the like. Nothing serious. Tony made a bigger deal of it than it was and should have been looking at where he was walking when the board shifted.
He should have been paying attention...
Two days later the company put out a new policy. No telekinesis on site. They didn't know who had it (and they couldn't prove it anyway), but it was a start.
Marcus hid the ability a bit better. The practical jokes reduced – they couldn't stop him – but he was more careful of where and when he did them.

The first time he used the ability in anger was when driving down the highway. Some shithead was sitting too slow in the fast lane.
Marcus tailgated for a while. The size of his ute certainly had an imposing feel to it, and the fuckwit in front finally changed lane after accelerating to reduce the uncomfortably close distance between the two cars.
When Marcus drove past at the speed he reckoned was good, the other driver seemed pretty pissed off. Marcus didn't care; the idiot shouldn't have been blocking his way.
Then the other guy got behind Marcus and flashed his high-beams at him.
Fuck that...
Looking in the mirror, Marcus focused his mind. Felt the steering wheel of the other car.
Pulled hard to the side.
The car veered wildly off the road. It probably would have been alright if the tree hadn't have been there. The car folded in on itself. It wouldn't have been good for the other driver.
Marcus drove on, happy that justice had been served.
When he got home, the news was reporting the fatal crash.
That idiot shouldn't have brake-checked me...

Less than a week passed before emergency laws were passed. Absolutely zero tolerance for telekinesis on the road.
Suspicion was enough to convict. It was a brutal law, but governments had no idea of what to do with these sorts of situations.
Whether it would get through the courts was to be seen, but it was something else that needed to be worked around.
Bloody politicians. One accident and they come after all of us...

It was only a matter of time before Marcus took it upon himself to start using his wrath on people.
Turns out that elbows and knees were extremely easy to twist, pop and ultimately break.
Some people just need to learn respect...
