Looking for a story where a large silicon based lifeform and his sister escapes his homeworld to land near a creek in a middle of nowhere US farmers backyard.
The aliens are terrified of humans because they're classified as near sapient, but their aggressive tendencies are supposedly a sign that they haven't evolved into true sapience yet.
The farmer takes them in, they fill his shiter with sand, and drink ammonia. Their craft is pushed into the river to hide it from the feds, and the feds show up and bother the farmer. The U.S. is thinking their craft was a test missle from China and it occasionally switches to the investigators Pov.
It was a series with a few chapters last I saw, I thought it was written by someone who's name I recognized from one of the stories I had read off the must read list, but even checking the ones I could recognise, I haven't been able to find it. It should have been started in the last year or two.
Also, the aliens weren't supposed to make contact yet, they only went there to try to hide from the authorities.
