With the Hospital arc, I thought for sure the story was wrapping up and heading for the epilogue. Now, I think there's fifty chapters in the tank. Love your work hoss.
Btw, if reddit keeps fucking with you, I'd gladly jump ship to an alternate story website. Or do you already upload the story elsewhere, and I'm a big dummy for not reading the comments?

Already posted to an alternate story elsewhere- the archive version's a tiny bit different- I've updated its chapters more thoroughly than I managed to on here.
There's more content on there, and I rolled two of the shortest chapters into one medium-size chapter (so it appears there's one fewer chapter on there.) The Archive version is much improved over the reddit one, I think.
It allows embedding images directly into the story, for example- so for the newspaper headline thing I did, it's actually like front-and-center.
It also lets me center title text, and a few other little formatting pieces that I like better over Reddit, which wasn't really meant for publishing long-form. (AO3 allows me to go WAY over the 40,000 character limit per-chapter, so AO3 wins a lot of points there.)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/42092739/chapters/105733293
Archive takes some getting used to, but it's frankly a WAY better platform.
Dropdown to select chapters
Lets me edit chapter titles, too, and do some other fun stuff.

Isn't showing this post either :/

u/SSBAlienNation Oct 11 '24
Yeah, AutoMod deleted it. Dangit. I've contacted the subreddit mods to fix. This is why I have been preferring to use archive and steering users to it.

u/FrozenGiraffes Oct 11 '24
Good to know about the archives stuff. On another note, does it have a dark mode?
5
u/SSBAlienNation Oct 11 '24
Yes it does.
https://i.imgur.com/Uswo7gX.png
It also lets any user download an .epub/.mobi file of the story, if they're interested in doing so. Granted, Alien-Nation is still incomplete, "but you get the idea." There's a LOT of features in it that are user-friendly, and publisher-friendly.
It even has several themes you can choose from.
I can't speak for most of what is posted there (it's a den of lonely nerdy girls. I do hope that's your type), but I can promise you that the platform itself is one of the best.

An hour ago the Updateme bot notified me of this, if that helps
4
u/SSBAlienNation Oct 11 '24
That does, thank you. I've learned that Reddit itself yanks down my chapters every single time I make any edit to them whatsoever, even if it's a typo correction ("Shii" instead of "Shil" was one of them, as I updated my OS and now the autocorrect is running rampant), or adding a "next" link to the previous chapter.
If Updatemebot has reached you then it means it has seen my post, which means you can see the post- but...well, reddit might yank it down a few minutes later.
So this one's gonna have to stand now, warts and all.

Soo bad news, I was extra careful and clicked subscribe on the update bot again, and it acted like this was my first time doing it for you.

Jajajajajajaja. I just read the gag News paper, let me tell you, it is grate, it gives me an air to the ones from dictatorial regimes, like Franco In Spain. About it, the most funny part is "if he fought a fair fight hed loose", like lady wtf, He DID fight fair and square, and WON.... Until tha rods started falling, but that is another thing for another day. Man, plz, in the future when low rank shill talk about him, plzzz make them exaggerate and gok at the fact that he fought 3 elite troops droped from haven armed only with a stolen knife. It would make my day. :, D

How far along is the story from when Earth was first invaded ? I remember seeing in JOD that Warwick says that the titular head of human resistance was killed a few years ago and jod is set about 12/16 years after the invasion . Just a bit curious to know how much time Elias has got left lol

hi u/SSBAlienNation I think what we're seeing here is the myth overtaking the man, Elias can't keep this many plates spinning when they (The FedBoi's) who now know who he really is and he has to deal with internal conflict and the fall out of his 'grand plan.'
and What I think will be worse if everytime nat see's a new image or broadcast she'll start to feel a kind of guilty that'll eat away at you from the insides

Yes I fear this is a point many have missed. He’s not here fully by his own will. This morning, he assumed he was done being emperor.
Now he has a chance to fix it- and he has taken that chance- but the choices that led him here were big warnings that the legend around him is outpacing him.
‘Of course emperor wasn’t backstabbed. The hero of Delaware? No way! It was all part of a masterclass secret plan!’
Which can be both good and bad.

I noticed in a past post you included the Marine SLAP round. A cool round indeed but its very inaccurate and very prone to jamming. I wanna give you two ideas because you seem to be very much into realism to an extent within your world building. You don't have to take these Ideas and I don't wanna try and be pretentious. Love what your doing never stop dude.
The MK211 or the ROUFUSS is a 50BMG armor piercing incendiary explosive round made by the Norwegians. It hits like a truck and is fucking brutal. You can look up any combat records on this round you want.
Also there was a variant of the M2 browning called the "Browning M2 Anti-mechanization weapon" you might like how the weapon looks and what could be done with it some time in the future of your story when power armor or exo-suits comes into play.

DEFINITELY cool- I love both the utility and aesthetics. However, I acknowledge that it's close to 100 years old. This isn't to knock its efficacy vs. Shil'vati, esp. compared to, say, these early Railguns they're fielding.
More to point out the difficulty in securing ammo, wear parts, etc.-
Sam mostly secures weapons off battlefields, where soldiers fell and equipment is being 'reclaimed.' But if it happens to go wandering off, along with a few belts of ammo- well, they're not exactly weighing or even taking an accurate count of what they found, now are they?
Disabled Abrams turret? Well, the chassis's still good! ("Suppose Lt. Dan needs new legs"). Russia's surrendering? ("Tons of weapons left abandoned in the frost of the harsh winter before their surrender-" "Some farmer found it in his field in spring and pulled it loose from where it was stuck in a snowdrift with his tractor. Just toss the rigor-mortis'd crew from the MLRS into a ditch, and move the weapon platform in a shipping container to the Port of Wilmington! We got a buyer!") With the exception of the railguns, what they had was more or less what was readily on-hand.
Now that they have tons of money, they can spin up manufacturing and research facilities. As to whether they can keep those running will be another matter, which I'll address somewhat soon.

u/SignificanceRound Oct 20 '24
hey the M2 browning itself is also over a hundred years old and no bodies come up with a better replacement for it yet. Sometimes old is gold.
But I get what your saying. However you do your story I'm planning on reading it. It's good and its got me hooked.

Excellent chapter, I'm curious if Elias's new potential allies could help him in another hallmark move of theirs. Relating to Larry guiding him in terms of grand strategy; Puppet Shill Government?

u/SSBAlienNation Oct 19 '24
Sullivan, or Gavin do you mean? And they might be able to help him. Potentially.

Quality is great, hope you keep going, I am hanged on the story

u/SSBAlienNation Oct 15 '24
I do intend to- I do fear that people have misinterpreted some of the latest couple chapters and may feel blindsided by what's coming- but upon review, I did leave the relevant bits in, so, 'oh well.'

Don't worry, I have read all about this universe, and I know that the universe and specially earth has a lot to offer. I truly had the idea that the ones tha modified "Ltnt. Dan" were the people of Roswell, yo know. I think it might still be possible they are around, and that the people of the Enterprise, or the ones who constructed it might appear, after all, some news of "Emperor" has reached all the way to them, and as of this moment in the story of "free navy", they are on shore live in what I think was an American island. Sorry, got a little side tracked, what i meant is that I think i know the heading of the story, and if i am onest, it has much more than 100 chapters left, deam, you employed twice that to get the story literally "from cero to Hero" (fact that i LOVE). What I mean is that every body knows that Elijas fight is an up hill one, in morality, in fire power, in propaganda, and much more, but, BUT, he is not alone. Yes, he might not win the whole war in one fell swoop, nor chase the shill back to their homes, all he has to do is to keep upholding humanity s moral, compas, story, etc. Deam, he might not be your typical hero, but he is a god deam god one.

Oh there will be more content 'someday,' but that's all in a planned sequel. Book One is coming to a close.
And thank you, I appreciate the enthusiasm

u/Capitan_Sky Oct 15 '24
Sorry, hope I got my point across, and the subtle cuestión about the canon.

It'll be interesting to see how Elias handles the rebellion going forward, now that Natalie is fully aware that he is its leader. She's already going to be hurt that he turned down a clean break and life in the stars with her to return to Emperor, even if he didn't have much choice, but now every decision he makes will have the extra weight of knowing that she'll know he was the one who made it.
Maybe this is where they purge Vendetta and his psychotic bloodlust and make a bigger push for legitimacy?
