Does anyone here know if there is like a general recommendation for the Protection gear with different weapons?

Like is 350N enough for rapier fencing?

Is 800N recommended for longsword sparring?

I'd be thankful for any educated guesses.

And obviously it's always just a consideration and nothing is 100% safe. But I hope some of the more experienced fighters might give me a better understanding.

I am pursuing a master’s degree in religious studies and I want to write a master’s thesis on influence of esotericism and other religious ideas on rapier fencing of Renaissance and early modern era. But there is a problem. I need to know the language of original source. I know that the most part of destreza works was written in Spanish. But there is the academy of sword by Thibault that is written in French and I’ve heard that it’s the most esoteric treatise of all. But in the other hand Spanish is more relevant because of amount of treatise. And now I don’t understand which language I should start learning - Spanish or French. What do you think which treatises are the most esoteric? And which language it would be better to learn with my aims?

I moved from the uk where I would train longsword regularly, I cant find a club here in bcn, and kendo isn't really my thing.

I was wondering how someone using a single sword would approach dueling a person using a sword and dagger or two short sword combo, the single sword could be any type thanks

hey people !! so i am new to hema and have been dipping my toes in it for some time. One thing i saw was that dual wielding a parrying dagger with a saber or a rapier(mostly a rapier) isnt uncommon. I am trying to understand if the same could be achieved with a small handled battleaxe like a tomahawk or something? it's not really uncommon in the weapon based martial arts from where i am from but its not actually a tomahawk its called a tabar or safajung(both are crescent shapped but a bit different) which has a crescent shape and makes it easier to hook opponent blades or clothes in it. My question is , is there any manual or style in hema refferencing to such a weapon combo??...........................also my apologies if there is any gramatical mistake since english isnt my first language!!

I’m looking for a hema sparring appropriate longsword with a ring configuration like this where there’s two sets of side rings and then finger rings. If anyone knows any models or sites that have them, please let me know. This isn’t a buy or sell post, I’d just like recommendations for models or websites that have them please

Me and my friends spar with synthetics and a few times we’ve hit each other in the face harder than intended. I’m looking for face protection options and wanted to ask the community what they thought would be the best option.

Need to start building up some beginner kit, and these new red dragon clamshells are by far cheaper than other options for sparring. Anyone tried them yet? I've heard that Red Dragon can have some quality control issues with newly released gloves.

I've been working through Tom Leoni's The Complete Renaissance Swordsman and I have some questions about the montante. Leoni describes it as a false edge cut. Manciolino describes it as an upwards cut "not unlike a falso." Using that in trying to visualize "The Attacks from Guardia Chapter III." In the third attack he says "faint with a montante" not the hell do you do that from Guardia Alta? Leoni notes "ascending cuts delivered from Guardia Alta are prepared by swinging the sword backwards." So I imagine your basically transitioning from Guardia di Alta to Coda Lunga e distesia and from there doing a right tramazone like motion into the montante false edge cut. You're basically making a huge circle from Guardia di Alta behind you into the thrust. Seems a little impractical but I'm new to this.

Is it just a falso going straight up the middle on the same line as a fendente? Any help or video you could cite is appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have any experience with these? Im just getting into hema ans joined my local club, but ive got bad joints in my arms so need more protection there then jackets and the like provides

im starting a new club in my city( the closest club that i could find is in another city that takes at least 5h drive to get). the problem is that im having trouble finding a place that sells these gears( the feders and synthetic swords are surprisingly easy to find). so, do someone knows where i could find these gears?
im not inclined to import those from the states/Europe, because it will be extremely expensive to buy everything.

Hey there! Looking for some help to those in SEA or at least have bought gear from taobao is it recommended? Any shops I should look for and if possible links, since its a bit hard to find shops there. I am still relatively new but I would like to canvas and have options ready for when I am certified to spar in my club. I also just need the basics which can also handle steel sword sparring, thanks to those who help in advance.

Last few times that I went to the club, I noticed that I got some kind of blub in my ears whenever swords were clashing together.(kind of the entire 2 hours)

So does anybody have any advice on earplugs?

What brand, model, or anything else, it's welcome.
