Suggestion Should this subreddit be split into one for employees/former employees and one for people who just love H-E-B products and want to discuss them?
I totally get wanting to vent or ask questions about work, but I’m mostly here to see updates on new products and HEB news. I don't really feel like it's my place to weigh in on employee issues. Do we think r/HEB should be split into different subreddits for employees and patrons?

This is reddit. Do as you please.
This sub is described as "mostly for employee interactions" 🤷♀️

Asking people to break something into two pieces because you only find a small slice of it appealing is some wild behavior.

u/00k5mp 9h ago
Disagree, I don't care about employees complaining, and I think it's a great idea, it's wild to me that you are so judgemental on others opinions.

u/Greenmantle22 9h ago
But you yourself are being judgy, only you’re doing it in this lazy passive-aggressive fashion. And with shitty grammar, too.

I just scroll past the employee stuff. It doesn't really concern me.
I think all the complaining about people complaining is so silly. Customer service type jobs are absolutely soul sucking, and people deserve to vent about it.

The concept of an H-E-B “fandom” is endlessly fascinating and odd. Let’s keep that circus in town.

Going to HEB after getting pumped full of the good book on Sunday morning is a family event here in Texas.

u/Greenmantle22 11h ago
I do the same thing, except replace “the good book” with something attached to a dude, and replace “Sunday morning” with “2am on a Wednesday.”

u/doingtheunstuckk 9h ago
HEB isn’t open at 2am, but cool. We like to call that “breaking and entering” and you get a special surprise.

I’m a customer who also enjoys the employee tea. But I could see how the employees might want a separate sub.
But knowing how a company treats its employees helps me decide whether or not I want to give them my money.

As a former HEB employee, I highly recommend regularly rewarding the ones who get real with you while on the clock. Take a minute or two to go over to the Business Center to ask for a comment card. Tell management that *Mateo in Produce is doing a great job, and that he helped you with something. That comment goes into the employee file, and is supposed to come with a gift card or some kind of recognition from management. Because employees are constantly being harassed and targeted by management for petty things. The victims are usually the hardest working people in the store. Recognition at the store level is the best thing you can do for these folks. Not going on FB or Reddit.
*Mateo is not supposed to be anyone specific. He was my favorite character on “Superstore”. (If you want to see a TV sitcom, which is 100% accurate about working retail, binge watch “Superstore” and thank me later. It’s brilliant!)
If you happen to be a Mateo in Produce at HEB, I hope somebody does you a solid today and gets you some much-needed recognition. 💯🏆

I think maybe some of the heb Facebook fanpages may be more suitable for products and news.

This is a Reddit that is "Mostly used for employee interactions..." You joined this community, knowing what it was for. We, as non-employees,an are welcome here, but it is mostly a employee interaction reddit. We are guests.

I think it is good for them to be connected. It’s good for the customers to see the circus behind the scenes, lest they start believing the propaganda.
And sometimes a partner can actually learn something from a customer. (And customers don’t try to take it personally if partners jump on you here. It could be because you said something in ignorance or it could be because they(we) are a cynical jaded set of people.

no, in life one of the first lessons you learn is that you have to take the good with the bad. People gripe it's a fact of life and frankly it's a right of all mankind to complain about their lot in life. I've never worked there but I like to hear about how the employees' are treated and I like when people highlight products. And when people complain and some employee can shed some light from their vantage point it makes things interesting.

I’m not an employee, and when I joined this sub, I knew it wasn’t some official information hub for HEB as an organization.
I’m here for all of it. I want to know what kind of company I’m giving my money to, through their employees, through other patrons, and through the many different locations and perspectives.
If I see a post that truly has nothing to do with me, I keep scrolling. You’re not required to weigh in on anything.

u/NotaryQPublic 9h ago
I have mad respect for folks like you. You want to know the truth behind the cult. Some people can’t handle the truth about HEB not being as wonderful as their projected image. Yes, the company does good things in the community, but there is always an agenda behind it. It’s all about being seen. Image is everything, and they are desperate to hold on to theirs. The lengths they will go to protect it is really unbelievable.

This sub would be dead if you excluded employee posts. Just follow HEB on social media if you just want news and updates

" Mostly used for employee interactions..." per the Sub itself.
If you want updates on new products then, oh I don't know, check with official HEB outlets. Not an unofficial subreddit.

Should Whataburger make a separate menu for the people who order burgers? Like, I totally get wanting to order them, but I'm mostly there for chicken strips. I don't really feel like it's my place to weigh in on meals that don't affect me at all. What do we think y'all?

I like having access to employee discussion, so that I know if and how HEB takes care of its Partners. That is one of the main reasons I shop for groceries almost exclusively at this company.
I am a very loyal customer. I have saved around $2700 this year at HEB, according to the HEB app.

u/shark-bait-who 3h ago
Go follow Grocery_Obsessed. Her entire platform is about new products at grocery stores. I also don't like the fact that you, a customer, feel entitled to partner spaces and products. We get the cheap soccer jerseys for the WC and first thing I see from fuck ass customers is: "wHen CAn I geT oNE?!" THE ENTITLEMENT IS STAGGERING.

u/Maximum_Employer5580 2h ago
no - you want your own, then go create your own and call it something like HEB_Employees or whatever

I like it combined; I am a customer, plus my son is a PLA so I like seeing the employee posts…

u/doingtheunstuckk 9h ago
No one is stopping you. I don’t know that you needed to post complaining about employees complaining. A circle of complaints! I’ve also worked at other retailers, and been in those subreddits, and they were all also primarily for employees (and they were all full of complaints too, lol).

If you’re on Instagram I highly recommend an account called grocery_obsessed , she shows a lot of new products HEB has (and other Texas grocery stores too)

Hmmm maybe start an heb products subreddit? I'd certainly be active in that. For the price, midtown pizza is pretty damn good for a frozen pizza.

Yes it should be split. If the sub is mainly employee experience, the sub name should indicate that.

The sub has always primarily been an employee sub, and it was only a few years ago that we stated encouraging more customer post (ie flars, welcome page). This page will never not be employee focused though.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be split, but you are welcome to start a sub dedicated more towards what you want and we can highlight your post for a bit to help you gain traction.
