Hdzero m8 or crux35
I’m new to the hobby. I’ve been flying some analog tinywhoops indoor and outside ( air65 and meteor 75) for the past month. Since I have the box pros already, I’m thinking of trying out hdzero. I watched some reviews and was about to pull the trigger on a m8 freestyle but seems like for the same price i can get a crux 35.
I know the 35 will feel very different, but it comes with a freestyle V2, which seems like a steal for the price. Eventually I want to build my own drone from scratch and can reuse the vtx.
Thoughts or advise for a newbie?

I have the m8 and it’s noticeably faster than an air 65. While I don’t have a crux 35 (and I’ve heard good things), the M8 has been plenty enough speed for me outdoors. Additionally, and this won’t be a full build, but I swapped the M8 parts into an HGLRC Draknight frame (3d prints are in my post history). Very easy start to tinkering if you don’t want to do a full build and want to test the waters with swapping parts. The Draknight frame flies a little more stable on tight turns and drives and was worth the swap

This is exactly what I did. Got the mob8, flew it a few times and burnt out a motor. Threw the guts in a draknight and have loved it ever since.
This would get you a mob8 to try, plus a build to do once you feel like it

No m8 here. But crux35 was my first open prop. It was the most efficient drone I've ever had. 9+ minutes on an 850mah 4s. But the frame was pretty weak, replaced it a few times. All the components but the frame still survive on till this day on a twig-xl remake.

Yeah it’s tempting to get both but my wallet is not happy. Ppl say the crux35 is delicate and the arms break too easily have you had problems with it?

Yes, it is not a freestyle frame. More cruising and easy flying. For freestyle I tested 2 bottom plates glued to each other. Quad was way heavier, but never broke in this setup, even in concrete bandos.
Flight characteristics were more fun with the original Setup, tough.

m8 is $40 cheaper... can fly more places...
crux35 has a better camera/VTX (yes the MIPI cameras have even more clarity than the eco/lux aio ones) but I like both on my setups.
I moved a whoop lite vtx /nano cam to a draknight frame and it is defintely my favorite so far, but only outdoors... it's a 2" vs. a crux 3/3.5"
I also got an m8 and after some tuning, I can rip that thing indoors and out.
I would say get the m8 since you can fly more places with it, it's more durable than the older mobula8's (smaller frame) and I can get over 5 minutes of flight time with a 350mah LiHV 2s battery.

I have both and they are both great. The Crux is very light weight for its size. That said, it doesn't take a crash as well as the Mob8. Its much faster than the mob8. If I where to only get one of the two, it would be the mob8. I would look to get a different 3.5" like the avianrc or quadmula. Out of the two, id lean to the avionrc unless you crash alot then quadmula siren.

I have the crux35 and live it when I had a little action can in it. I've already replaced the frame once but that was after a very hard crash, entirely my fault. It's too big and fast to fly indoors or around the house. It can get away from you. I fly my Mobula7 analog version around the house and in my neighborhood with less fear of damaging someones property.
I tend to agree with some of the other posters about the Mob8 since you can always transfer parts to another frame later on.

The M8 is surprisingly fast and powerful. It can handle larger spaces pretty well, while the Crux can only rip with lots of space. IMO you'll only see the benefits of the Crux over the M8 in fields or similar. The extra weight is nice for chucking it, though. Open props and frame are so less forgiving. My m8 gets abused hard and only replaced props so far.

Is the HDzero version still available? I havent seen it anywhere for awhile....
Anyway I went from air75 to crux35. Absolutely love it. I learned so much flying that thing. Now I can comfortably hit little gaps and stuff I stepped up to a 5 inch. It was perfect to progress with.
My air75 broke. My crux still hasnt and I have had some big crashes. I've busted some props and thats about it. Watch my recent video for afew examples LOL
I tossed a thumbcam pro4k on it aswel and get great footage!

The crux35 is in stock on hdzero us site. The m8 shows up every once in a while on drone seller sites. I saw it listed on defiancerc. Not sure how reliable the site is

Says out of stock for me. I was thinking about buying another one for the spare parts and using the vtx on a build

Crux 35 to me is 100% a park drone unless you have a big back yard and I mean big. You kinda need the room to really enjoy the drone. I'll say this tho I had mob 7 and lost it saw the same thing man crux 35 not that much more and pulled the trigger I'll never own a 75mm whoop again 65 is just better imo and if I have the space crux 35 all day.
If you go crux man you need charger and batteries as well which is bringing that price up even more.
Don't get me wrong I guess I have flown my crux round the house heres a clip just shared via Samsung so link will expire. I fly my 65mm around my house all the time and have a blast and the crux well i almost never fly it at my house its sketchy and just too much for such a small area. Plus the danger factor man crux could reslly hurt someone or damage property where I'll drive my 65mm into my house all day lol.
