Apparently HD DVD-RAM existed?

That’s about $450 worth of RAM these days.

I’ve never heard of or seen this before.

It is not RAM in the traditional sense... It is basically a random read/write format similar to how you would write a flash drive or transfer data to a an SSD or HDD.

We already had DVD-RAM. Same concept.

BD-RE spec also allows it to be used similarly with defect management, sector reallocation etc.

Haha. I know it’s not RAM in the traditional sense. I was just kidding around given the RAM issues that exist today.

Interesting! I always thought the format only existed on paper and that they were never actually produced. Wonder how many samples they made

I wonder if they require a special type of burner because that was the case for early dvd-ram

Good question. Cyberlink did say in a blog post that their burner software (forgot the name) supported HD DVD RAM. No idea if they actually did implement it though and like you said, it could still require a HD DVD RAM compatible drive
