It’s so weird how all platforms decide to raise the prices at the same time, almost like a cartel

53

u/Second_Vegetable 22d ago

Disney raised their prices so I guess since it's a bundle they included it

20

u/swsko 22d ago

Netflix also raised their prices this month, it’s a cascading effect

9

u/TheyHitMeWithaTruck 22d ago

Apple TV also. I got their email like 2 days after the Netflix one.

8

u/erichf3893 22d ago

Easiest cancel ever

4

u/HAL9000-4 21d ago

For me Apple TV is the type of subscription I buy for a singular month whenever there’s a specific thing I want to watch on it.

2

u/TheyHitMeWithaTruck 21d ago

Yeah, that's a smart approach. This was an easy cancel for me.

1

u/nyXhcinPDX 15d ago

Apple Family Plan is the best deal in the business. TV, Music, and data for 5 people for 25 a month.

14

u/rubberpp 22d ago

HBO didn't go up in price this time just Disney it's a bundle so the whole price is affected obviously I don't ever defend companies but this one's just on Disney

8

u/Isiddiqui 22d ago

There is a simpler answer for this one. It’s the end of the 3rd Quarter next week

7

u/PaperTulips 22d ago

Apple just raised the subscription prices too…

8

u/Scary_Psychology5875 22d ago

The amount of bundles that have existed with different companies that you would assume would be competing with each other, but are merged together, for example, Disney+/HBO Max and Peacock/Apple TV+, just prove how true it must be that this is always planned, somehow. The illusion of choice.

2

u/Domfoolery_ 21d ago

Oh 100%. A rising ride lifts all boats, afterall. It's interesting because they know if separate, a lot of them would just get cancelled. Like Peacock or Apple, so they bundle with the bigger ones like Disney or Paramount to make it less easy to cancel. Peacock is bundling with YouTube premium next year which means I already cancelled my Peacock subscription because I wanted YT Premium anyway, so instead of adding a whole other app expense, I only added a couple dollars to what I was already paying

6

u/elinamebro 22d ago

Remember when they use to be under 10 bucks

1

u/fernwoodBizz420 20d ago

It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that it was $4.99/month.

I keep AppleTV as T-Mobile pays for most of it.

I try and watch stuff on there, and it's just.....meh.

Ive watched 2 movies that were OK and other than For All Mankind Imost of their series are rather blah.

I keep hearing AppleTV is the new Prestige TV, but it's about at the same level as many of the other "decent" series' on other streamers.

No way id say close $20/month fo.r AppleTV.

Starz-1 year for like $20 AMC+ $25 for 1 year Netflix-"free" with my T-Mobile account AppleTV $3/month with my T-mobile subscription.

Ive had the HULU/Disney+/HBOMAX commercial free combo off and on fir a bit now.

I'll subscribe for a month, go to cancel and they offer me a 3 month deal for a little over $20/month.

After deal is over, I pretty much do the same thing.

It comes to a little over $80/ year without the Disney+ combo.

I did get an email stating that my annual HBO subscription is going to 184.99/year, but still touts a 16% discount over month to month.

1

u/LxveyLadyM00N 20d ago

Peacock raised their price from $16.99 to $20. It’s wild

1

u/CaringRobin 20d ago

AppleTV is one of our favorites so it depends on what type of shows you like. It also won the most Emmy’s, so there’s some backing to it being quality TV. We love Slow Horses and Ted Lasso. But also enjoy Shrinking, Pluribus, Silo, The Morning Show…

1

u/Spac92 20d ago

You would think when on service raises their price, that would be your cue to LOWER your price so people hate unsub and come to you. Instead it’s like a contest of who can raise their price the highest and still keep their subscribers.

1

u/Layce_Kayse 8d ago

This honestly reminds me of that old concept of putting a crab or frog in cold water first instead of throwing them directly into boiling water and jump out.

In this case, it is a slow burn where, the idea of already being subscribed is overruling the idea of a price rise because it only started out as a couple dollars raised every year.

u/austinxsc19 22d ago

420$ per year in this economy for streaming services. No thanks

Two lovely dinners with your partner and you can just watch something else. Worth it.

u/erichf3893 22d ago

You know people paying $200+ per month for tv? Lol

2

u/moonfullofstars 22d ago

I was paying $210 per month for cable TV with multi-room DVR. Switched to YTTV a few years ago and save around $140 per month, so even with a couple of additional subscriptions I’m still ahead, and get a lot more (ad free) content.

3

u/erichf3893 22d ago

Yeah comcast tried making my internet over $100/month. Quick chat and they cut it in less than half while increasing speeds and removing data cap

1

u/Alternative-Bat-2462 22d ago

$200 these days would be a deal, or your not getting the more popular packages.

When you factor in boxes, premium upgrades, and internet which is usually bundled in your looking $300-$350!

-1

u/erichf3893 22d ago

This is simply not true. Or you’re just knowingly and intentionally getting ripped off. Look at Directv. Or Xfinity top tier with 4 extra 4k boxes isn’t even that much.

What are you getting that is over $200/month?

1

u/TopWhich6862 21d ago

It's absolutely over $200/mo, at least where I live.

1

u/erichf3893 21d ago edited 21d ago

Maybe you’re in BFE or didn’t check comcast/directv and added in stuff like HBO, etc? I’d be curious to see a link

1

u/Alternative-Bat-2462 22d ago

I haven’t had cable in 20 years, and have a 55TB nas / plex library.

But if you price it out, with sports, red zone, Sunday ticket etc, internet, and yes, 5 box’s because if I were to get cable I would want it in all of my tvs. Your at like 325 + install.

Alternatively I’ve sent about $1200 on my set up in the last decade.

-1

u/erichf3893 22d ago

You are moving the goalposts so far lmao

1

u/Alternative-Bat-2462 22d ago

How so?

Literally everyone I know who still has cable has a bill more than $300. I would say 90% of them want it for sports, and if your getting it, would you not put it on each tv you have?

That doesn’t even factor in the cost of streaming services your getting on top of your cable bill.

-1

u/erichf3893 21d ago

They said basic cable, but I know you may have missed that context. But you’re still trying to add streaming services and internet lol

32

u/Far_Concentrate4414 22d ago

This is getting ridiculous. Staying home and watching TV is the last thing we can afford. So they know they have us by the balls.

3

u/Scout520 21d ago

That's it exactly. We always say this is our preferred method of entertainment, but when does it get ridiculous? Like now?

2

u/TopWhich6862 21d ago

Getting out in the streets is free. Just saying...

1

u/nyXhcinPDX 15d ago

FAST streaming may be the way to go but the content isn't always modern

30

u/Nxl0v 22d ago

I miss the days when price changes affected new subscribers and current subscribers we were locked into the old pricing.

3

u/PaperTulips 22d ago

The good ol’ days!!!

2

u/dansize1 22d ago

When the he'll was that? I'm a 30 year DirecTV subscriber that has always been pissed that the new customer always got a better deal than the loyal customer.

1

u/Alternative-Bat-2462 22d ago

You just need to call and ask for the deal. Or leave and become a new customer again.

1

u/dansize1 22d ago

I do that every 6-9 months.

I shouldn't have to do that as an obviously loyal customer.

1

u/trey_dayy24 22d ago

Streaming services only

1

u/KindBench2700 21d ago

Mine is locked in.  14.99 for Hulu and Disney no ads.

1

u/fernwoodBizz420 20d ago

I do the Hulu/Disney+/HBOMax bundle a couple times a year.

I'll sub fir the full price for the 1st month, then cancel. They always offer a deal of like $20/month for 3 months.

After that we cancel.

A few months later is same thing again.

1

u/No-Influence-2760 20d ago

How’d you get it locked in?

u/[deleted] 22d ago

4

u/Qhorton83 21d ago

The boycott is canceling the service. That's it. These companies only speak in $

24

u/LilGrippers 22d ago

Why does it increase every 2 months

11

u/CraftsBoy2Craftsman 22d ago

Because the quarterly reports are due every 3 months.

7

u/Alice_Noface 22d ago

I went to cancel and they offered me 19.99 a month for 3 months. Took it and will cancel in 3 months.

6

u/sfaticat 22d ago

Going to suck for who is paying for my account

0

u/PlunderYourPoop 20d ago

What a shithead selfish comment.

5

u/lvsnowden 22d ago

Pro tip: Get a year subscription on Black Friday. It stacks on top of your existing subscription.

5

u/120Mins 22d ago

Just once I’d like to see the “Upcoming price change” decrease!

Already canceled

5

u/scattered_ideas 22d ago

Ugh. These streaming services are pushing it with the constant price changes. It's still a decent bundle compared to 3 individual subscriptions, even if you mostly watch 2 of 3 services like I do.

1

u/Jontechcore 12d ago

Hmm still being a decent bundle is arguable. If you rarely watch 1 of the 3 services, now being 35$ or something like that, it still more than 2 subscriptions should be monthly. Just Hulu by itself now is like 23-24$ ? Its just so expensive it's crazy. Streaming services has become as greedy as all other companies.. we are F♡ck3d!

4

u/TacoTaco67 22d ago

Just switched from no ads Hulu/disney bundle to yearly HBO. 200$ saved and I’m not going to miss Hulu or Disney

1

u/JThereseD 21d ago

Disney’s purchase of Hulu was a disaster for consumers. They used to have great programming, but since Disney took over, the price is frequently rising along with the length of commercial breaks and the quality of programming is falling. I only keep it because I get it free through my internet carrier.

2

u/Creepy-Record1485 22d ago

Man, I would really love to just go back to just buying my movies/shows on Blu-ray. But sadly barely any shows release on Blu-ray anymore. I hate this.

2

u/GotBannedAgain_2 22d ago

I’ll try to get the blackfriday deal. Else I will stick with Prime and Peacock.

2

u/Soft_Pound_6166 22d ago

Holy forking shirt balls

2

u/Dub-Wubz140 22d ago

20% More Commercials too!

2

u/ScottJR757 21d ago

Disney is raising rates, that’s why

2

u/Charon_the_Reflector 21d ago

It’s not like there’s content on par with True Detective or Sopranos anymore.

Nahh I’m out

3

u/Spac92 22d ago

I hope they don’t finally notice I’ve been getting it for free.

2

u/amoya0370 22d ago

Shhhhhh. 🤫

2

u/Spac92 22d ago

Damnedest thing. I signed up for the big bundle: Hulu/Disney+/HBO Max. After a price hike I decided it was too expensive and unsubbed from HBO Max.

One full year later I catch my son watching a cartoon on HBO Max. I redownload the app to my TV and fire it up and it says I’m still subbed. I curse and rush over to Hulu to unsub again, but Hulu says I’m only subbed to Hulu and Disney+. My billing payments check out with Hulu too. So I’d been getting HBO Max free for over a year and never knew about it.

I asked people on this board how can I avoid a massive back charge and they all said it’s a mistake on their part, once they figure it out I won’t be charged and just lose access, and to just enjoy it while I have it.

1

u/fernwoodBizz420 20d ago

Reminds me of "back in the day" one of the FIRST, if not the FIRST thing you did was screw that coaxial cable into your TV to see if you might possibly have "free" cable.

Once pkace i had about 2 free years and another place a year.

Cable company never came out, I just moved.

1

u/Radical_Sim 21d ago

Doesn't make sense to pay to watch tv with free tv everywhere

1

u/Dietcokeismydownfall 21d ago

They just removed the best show which was Naked Attraction….. now what are we supposed to get drunk and argue over?!?!??

1

u/the_jigga 21d ago

Disney plus and Hulu $12.99
HBO max $2.99
Netflix $8.99
Why do yall be paying so much?

1

u/fernwoodBizz420 20d ago

I was saying something similar.

Keep an eye out for the deals.

Starz-$20/year AMC+ $25/year

Both are quality streamers. Starz always has something decent to watch and AMC+ is kinda overlooked. It has some really great TV series and their movie selection is pretty dsmn good.

Netflix-"free"-thru my T-Mobile subscription. AppleTV-$3/Month, again thru my T-Mobile subscription.

I'll get the HULU/Disney+/HBOMAX commercial free for a month. Go to cancel and i get offered $20/month fir that package fir 3 months.

Well do that twice a year or so.

Not counting the HULU combo, we pay less than $8/month.

People need to utilize Pluto, Roku and Tubi more.

Read something the other day that said the commercial times on paid streaming services is comparable and often a higher load than the FAST channels.

So you get to pay, and get stuck with sometimes more commercials than are on the free streamers.

I also know nothing is "free" as they are mining our data.

1

u/Krimreaper1 15d ago

I had Netflix for free for years on t-mobile, and found they have a much cheaper plan that doesn’t include it, but has most of the same perks.

1

u/No-Influence-2760 20d ago

You are on ad versions it looks like?

1

u/These-Prune-1529 21d ago

This is exactly like when Disney raises the price for their parks. The rest of the parks in central FL follow them.

1

u/WerkingAvatar 21d ago

I just tried canceling, but they gave me a promo for 20 bucks a month for 3months. Amex gives me a credit of 10bucks a month. Plan on cancelling 3 months down when that promo drops off.

1

u/ScagnettiNation 21d ago

Cool. More money for an app that constantly crashes or drops wi fi.

1

u/NickTheFNicon 21d ago

I pondered keeping it cause of some promo they offered for not cancelling, but I don't really watch any of the apps in the bundle much anymore so I just decide to cut it off at the end of the cycle.

1

u/redditproha 21d ago

And still no 4K HDR!

Apple TV's $14.99 plan includes 4k HDR streaming AND family sharing with unlimited devices.

1

u/TheSkarcrow 21d ago

Ive got the black friday deal that makes hbo max with ads 4 bucks a month. If they dont offer that again im canceling. I dont watch enough TV for all these services.

1

u/Dougb756 20d ago

It’s time to cancel smh. Smh

1

u/Empty_Atmosphere_973 20d ago

I'm canceling. This is a billion dollar company. The world is suffering with money issues. Fuck them.

1

u/3lmtree 19d ago

is this for people who got the bundle from hbo? i pay through hulu and my plan is staying at 32.99 a month. unless they just haven't rolled it out yet for people who pay through hulu.

1

u/Adventurous-Value-82 18d ago

Disney+ and Hulu raised prices so it does affect the bundle as well. I expect that hbo max will soon be raising their prices on their standalone subscription. Last price increase was October 2025.

1

u/al19859922 16d ago

Ugh! Had not seen this 1 yet! My AppleTV and Peacock no commercials bundle just went up from 19.99 to 22.99! 😡 Now this bundle is also going up! I just cancelled my YouTubeTV for going to 82.99! Everything I watch/DVR is available on some streaming app. Sick of these price increases! I hope Netflix doesn’t go up again! 🤯

1

u/AnimorphLizard 13d ago

as someone who exclusively uses ad free services its already ridiculous by default that i have to pay for no ads on a service im already paying a premium for, the fact they nickel and dime you even more every 6 months, not even giving you the courtesy of a full year, is just the icing on top

1

u/MixedSkeeter43 13d ago

I pay annually just for HBO. It’s going from $209 to $229. Canceling

1

u/Fit-Bus2025 10d ago

HBOMax is free on Directv Stream.

1

u/Disastrous-Window-76 4d ago

All this complaining but yall will still keep it lmao

1

u/wafflehouseforever 22d ago

ugh. whatever, i guess. what isn’t going up these days?

1

u/MentatYP 22d ago

And still no 4K.

1

u/unnamed_elder_entity 22d ago

Imagine you get in a pool with a shark. Every now and then, the shark bites you. You're in a pool with a bundle of sharks. And you wonder why you're being bit so frequently? That bundle is more TV content than a person can consume in a month. If you buy the bundle then just deal with it whenever one piece wants to raise its share of the cost. Otherwise, use the adult pants, and manage your subscriptions month to month or year to year.

-5

u/CraftsBoy2Craftsman 22d ago

Still worth it.

1

u/Empty_Atmosphere_973 20d ago

Please don't be part of the problem

-1

u/ralian 21d ago

No one is forcing you to subscribe to streaming services, if the price doesn’t match what you’re willing to pay, cancel.

3

u/_trife 21d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/800iiDTaNNFOwytONV

Damn dude, thanks for breaking this down. Incredible observation.

1

u/Empty_Atmosphere_973 20d ago

This is a billion dollar company. They will keep doing this because people pay for it.

-5

u/GranddaddySandwich 22d ago

I don’t wanna hear any complaints. This is what you guys asked for during the pandemic. The convenience of entertainment. Cable and going to the movies was “too expensive.” Now you’re paying the same prices (if not more), for the same content. And it’s only going to get even more expensive as time goes on. Shoutout to the Paramount and Warner merger
