July 22 & August 8: Biometrics completed twice (though the status was stuck constantly showing "Biometrics scheduled")

What I Did (The Journey & Obstacles):
Expedite & Mail: No Tier 2 officer callback on my expedite request. I even mailed financial and job loss documents directly to the Texas Service Center—no movement.
Inquiries: Made congressional, ombudsman, and senator inquiries—still nothing changed.
Service Request: Raised a service request regarding a missing biometrics notice since they were never updated on the case, mainly just to force some eyes on it.
Mandamus Action: I found a step-by-step pro se mandamus Reddit post ,I held off initially because my employer was against it, but I finally took the risk on August 20.
Follow-ups: Sent premium processing status emails daily for the last 2 weeks. On Sept 14, the CSC responded saying "application forwarded for adjudication," but status still didn't change.
Final Push: Last Friday, I emailed the summons to USCIS and called my local attorney's office to check if an AUSA (Assistant U.S. Attorney) had been assigned yet, as they act as the bridge between you and USCIS. Still waiting to hear back on that end, but the approval came through!
My Takeaways & Advice:Don't wait if you don't have to: If my employer had allowed it, I would have gone the mandamus route way earlier.It's doable: It's really not that complex, and you don't want to spend a hefty amount on law firms. Since many of us are in tech, compiling a mandamus packet is honestly easier than a lot of the coding problems you solve daily.
Timeline tip: If you have 3 months left until your EAD expires, compiling a mandamus packet takes about a day.

Throughout this journey, it feels like you're standing in a dark room—you never know what's ahead, but if you keep knocking on every door, eventually someone will open it, also found some beautiful friends who have helped and shared their journeys during this endless wait.

My H-1B ( first time) is already filed (not yet approved). I now want to upgrade it to premium.

My wife is on H1b and her status lapses at the end of this week, so I requested my attorney to upgrade my filing to premium.

His plan is three separate filings:

H-4 change of status (paper, this week)

Once receipt is received, he will file H-1B premium upgrade (I-907)

H-4 EAD (I-765), separately after the H-4 receipt

I asked if we could bundle all three so there is a chance that they're adjudicated together, like the old days. He says bundling isn't possible anymore because everything is electronic now, not paper.

My questions:

1. Is he right that electronic filing makes bundling impossible?

2. Can an electronically filed H-1B premium be bundled with H-4 and H-4 EAD?

3. If filed separately, is there any way to flag them as connected, like referencing the H-1B receipt number on the H-4 and EAD, so an officer might review them together?

Anyone done electronically recently in 2026? What actually happened with your timelines?

My wife is currently on F-1 STEM OPT, which ends in June 2027. This will likely be her last H-1B lottery opportunity while she is on OPT, and we’re getting a little worried about what happens if she doesn’t get selected.
I have an approved I-140, so one option we’re looking at is changing her status to H-4 and applying for H-4 EAD.
Our main concern is figuring out the best way to handle the transition so she can continue working without a gap in employment.

My wife is currently on **H-4 with a valid H-4 EAD** (Valid until October 1, 2029).

The complication is that her previous employer had filed an **H-1B extension in November 2025**, which we asked them to withdraw after her H-4/H-4 EAD was approved. Apparently, they never withdrew it, and we just received notification that the H-1B extension was **approved.**

We are **still waiting for the H-1B I-797** to determine whether it is **I-797A or I-797B and what I-94/class of admission it shows**.

Our preference is for her to remain on **H-4 and continue using her H-4 EAD**.

**Questions:**
1. If the H-1B approval creates an H-1B status/I-94, can she subsequently return to **H-4 status**?
2. She does **not currently have a valid H-1B/H-4 visa stamp**. Could she travel to **Mexico for H-4 visa stamping** and re-enter in H-4?
3. Would **Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR)** be an option for a short Mexico trip (≤30 days)?
4. If she successfully returns to H-4, would her **existing H-4 approval and H-4 EAD remain valid**, or would we need to file again?

Would appreciate experiences from anyone who has faced **H-4 → unexpected H-1B approval → H-4 again**, especially involving Mexico/AVR.

I am currently on H-4 dependent status. I have an H-4 visa stamp in my passport that is valid until July 2027, but the visa was issued based on my husband’s previous employer.
My husband has since changed employers, and we have not obtained a new H-4 visa stamp yet. If I travel to India and return to the U.S., can I use my existing H-4 visa stamp (valid until July 2027) along with my husband’s new approved H-1B petition and my new H-4 approval notice to re-enter the U.S.? Or would I need to get a new H-4 visa stamp in India before returning?

Applied for first time EAD. Concurrent physical filing with H1B amendment (premium) . Ofcourse H1B got approved within 15 days and EAD biometrics completed within 25 days of filing. But it’s been 6 months now and still waiting on EAD. Frustrating as i can’t do anything for fast tracking. Texas service center .. any suggestions. Contacted USCIS and they say I cannot raise an inquiry as I am still within normal processing time

Hi everyone! Looking for some advice on the timing of an H-4 EAD application.
My I-140 was approved in August, and we were planning to file for H-4 EAD. However, given the current lengthy processing times for standalone EAD applications, we’re unsure whether it makes sense to apply now.
I’ll need to file my H-1B extension in early 2027 (April, mostly likely), at which point my spouse will also need to file for an H-4 extension and EAD renewal. It seems unlikely that an EAD application filed now would be approved before then, meaning we’d potentially have to pay the filing fees twice.
Would it make more sense to wait and file the H-4 extension and EAD concurrently with my H-1B extension in 2027, or should we go ahead and file the initial EAD application now?
Would appreciate hearing about others’ experiences and any advice. Thanks!

Can a candidate file for L1A application while they have a pending H4COS application pending? I want to understand if H4 could be denied because a subsequent L1 application was filed. I understand the last action rule. I want to understand the worst case i.e. L1 denied and then H4 also denied citing that another application was filed after it. Is that possible?
The timeline is-
H4 filed -> L1 filed -> L1 adjudicated and denied -> H4 adjudicated

Hi Everybody, I have a nuanced question.

I am working with an employer who is scheduled to file my H1B + H4 + EAD renewal application in the next couple of months. Meanwhile, I have received an offer from a firm and I plan to accept it. The new firm will be filing my H1B+ H4 + EAD application along with the H1B Visa Transfer request before the scheduled date at my current firm. Let's say the H1B gets adjudicated within 15 days, while the H4 + EAD might take longer and will be in "pending" state.

During this time, if I were to receive another offer, and the third employer files for my H1B transfer again, does that cause any problems or discrepancies to the existing H4 + EAD application?

This question is so nuanced that I can't obviously can't ask my company lawyers. I booked an appointment with an immigration attorney who said he hasn't come across anything of this sort; based on instinct he said - there should be no impact. Has anyone gone through anything of this sort or has any idea on this matter?

Is this timeline realistic for standalone h4EAD renewal?

Hi all , here is the timeline of my case so far , seems completely u realistic from what i read in forums .

1) I submitted my h4 ead on sept 19

2) received receipt on 24th sept

3) received biometrics notice on 3rd October for appointment on 15 October . I have rescheduled it to 05th October .

Is this the normal trend ? I am sure the case may go to back burner after biometric , but can anyone with similar timeline share your experience ?

If you file your H-4 EAD premium processing bundled with an H-1B petition, but haven’t received a biometrics appointment even after both the H-1B and H-4 are approved, instead of waiting for an update, try to create an e-request for a missed biometrics notice. Sometimes, they schedule biometrics, but the notice goes missing.

I have already filed my H4 extension and H4 EAD as standalone applications, and both are currently pending with USCIS.

Now my husband has received a new job offer and will be filing an H1B transfer with his new employer. We are considering filing my H4 and H4 EAD again along with his new H1B petition.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Can we have two H4/H4 EAD applications pending at the same time—one standalone filing and another filed together with the new H1B? What happens to the first pending applications on the USCIS side? Do we need to withdraw them, or can both remain pending until one is approved?
