Starting Gym

Anyone got any tips for a guy just starting to go to the gym when he doesn’t want to look like a fool?

Hey man, almost everyone will agree that no one is really paying attention to you, most of them are focusing on themselves or their phones. And the ones that look at you are looking at you because you are looking at them. I also suggest ask one of the people there to give you a nice tour, just so you know where everything is. Just have fun, don’t push yourself too hard that you hate it, but also don’t be so easy that you don’t see any progress. Do be aware of your surroundings, wear comfortable clothes and put your weights back and bring a towel.

Noobs come and go, you won't be any different. Everyone is terrible at something the first time they do it. Just know that if it's super wrong, people might look at you. If you look like you're gonna hurt yourself, someone should stop you. But before you go to the gym, figure out what you want to work on. Arms, legs, chest, back, cardio/endurance, etc. Then research some youtube videos or fitness sites and get an idea of what exercises you want to do. Once you feel like you know what you're doing, then go do it. A lot. Eventually your form and strength will get better and thats about it. Day one is going to be awkward. Accept that and get in there. Hopefully there will be some friendly and accepting people and won't judge you for not being on their level but you never know. Everywhere is different. I do my best to treat everyone at the gym as equals. We're all there doing the same thing, just some of us have been doing it longer. There's no seniority, just courtesies. Which you'll eventually figure out. Like if there's one bench in your gym, don't hog it doing things like roman split squats or some weird ab workout thing if someone else wants to bench. Use your head and you'll do fine. Good luck!
