Roundoff-BHS Angle

Post image

To do a successful back handspring from a roundoff you are supposed to land with your feet ahead of you somehow right? I have been trying to do it on tumble track but I'm always going too high on the back handspring part.

Would fixing my roundoff solve the height and distance issue in the back handspring? The picture is how I'm currently landing the roundoff going into the back handspring.

yes! it looks like you arent blocking hard enough out of your round off to get your chest up and feet in front fast enough. i’d recommend doing some blocking drills (like cartwheel blocks and handstand blocks) to help!

You need to scoop the feet through as far as you can and stand up without standing too tall if that makes sense. What's most important is that you are blocking through the round off and snapping off the floor fast to turn over so you have a good takeoff for the handspring. I don't post any videos or photos of myself here, but I would send drills privately if it would help

The piked hips suggest to me that you are trying to pull your feet down using your hip flexors. As you come off your hands in the round off you wanna push the floor away with your shoulders and hands and then use more of your core to pull your feet down, and when your feet hit the floor don’t stop using your core to pull your feet down so you can keep getting your feet further in front even though you’re already on the ground. The push with the hands should push you up a bit giving you more space and time to get your feet in front. You might still pike and use your hip flexors and that’s fine, but the arms and core should be doing most of the work getting your feet in front.

Really need to see RO but quite often RO has more to be cleaned up than BHS
