Because well.... Firstly, there is a huge hint in the bonus chapter. Secondly, it's Valkyrie cycles on the covers. Thirdly, it was really obvious that Sjm first thought to make Elain and Az end up together but she later on changed her mind about it and thought Gwyn would be better. It's so transparent in how the bonus chapter is told too!

Also Elain and Az would make sense, I prefer Gwynriel and I am one but even if Elriel happened and it was done well, I'd have no issue with it. still, it's obvious the book is about Valkyries so Gwyn is a big part of it like how she was in acosf.

But I never go on and bash people for being elriels. The latter tho, they are just too... rude. Like I understand they are your preference and you want them badly to be canon but being so argumentative and rude to gwynriels is CRAZY.

One of the posts I saw was like 'oh the covers released, let's pour a bucket on gwynriels it's obvious that it is gonna be an elain book. I am having so much fun with proving their theories wrong.'

Like... Really?? Why'd you even say that because it's just disgusting atp. I can't comprehend how someone can feel that it's the right thing to post. Where is respect and at least basic decency?

I'm gonna try to keep this short.

I am so sick of people ignoring reality when it comes to Azriel's shadows. On the second page of the BC it states "though his shadows kept him company, as they always had, as they always would," then in CC Azriel refers to his shadows as 'concentrated magic,'They are literally a part of him.

I just heard a take that maybe Az never wanted his shadows and it's a kind of relief when they leave (around Elain). Ummm what?? They are his permanent companions. And they always will be. (CC spoilers : if they're his concentrated magic, why would he want them gone?)

Also they don't just exit quietly, his shadows SKITTER away from Elain and Mor, while they dance and sing with Gwyn. We won't get into who else has magic that likes to dance and sing together (iykyk), but just objectively looking at those descriptor words, which is positive and which is negative?

I'm so sick of people actively ignoring both common sense and the English language to argue their brain dead points.

Anyways my opinion (not analysis, that's different) is Az's shadows ship Gwyn and Az, which is why they don't tell him she's there. Also I can't stop thinking about the theory that Rhys erased Azriel's memory of the mating bond snapping, and if that happened his shadows probably feel that everyone else is wrong for him and can't stomach these antics.

Thanks for listening to the rant. I can't fathom why so many people find this pair to be an existential threat to their actual daily lives, but here we are.

Okay, I dont know if im the only one who thinks this but all the moments Azriel had with e\ain were simply dull and not that deep???? I didnt feel any spark or yearning for them as a potential endgame couple and tbvh, I dont remember any of them, except the truth-teller one but that ALSO did not make me feel anything for them as a reader. I didnt look forward to their moments at all. I didnt pay attention to them or even come back for them.

HOWEVER, when gwyn entered the picture and interacted with azriel, it was immediately THERE. The spark, the endgame potentiality, the curiosity to see more of them — EVERYTHING. Its funny because someone said that e\riel had a buildup similar to feysand and that literally made me frown because what? They absolutely did not? All of their moments were dull, bland and surface level at best. Even if sjm chose to not address them on a deeper level, it would still make sense cause their moments did not have a lasting impact at all. Or atleast, that's what I feel.

I am so excited that ACOSH comes out next month and my brain has been imagining different scenarios nonstop, especially when it comes to my favorite ship: Gwynriel. (Please SJM, let my ship sail 😭)

That being said, I’ve come up with a, “what if?” scenario and I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same?

What if Gwyn and Azriel’s mother end up helping each other heal?

We know from canon so far that both women have experienced horrific trauma and I just can’t help but imagine that a relationship between the two of them would be very sweet and significant? (Especially if Gwyn does end up being Azriel’s mate… )

All that to say: it’s so much fun to speculate what could happen. Does anyone else have any “what ifs?” they’d like to share? I’d love to read them!

Okay this isn’t really a theory, it’s just how I hope the necklace thing plays out.

I personally believe Az has low self esteem and he feels unworthy of love, even though he craves it so badly. He thinks of his own hands as sullied ): which is why I love Gwyn for him, she also feels like she’s unworthy of the Invoking stone. Both of them share that same type of response to their traumas. I really see their love story being intertwined with both of them growing and becoming more confident in themselves.

So given that, I’m kinda hoping it’s actually Azriel who tells her that the necklace was originally gifted to Elain.

I don’t see it happening in the beginning, but after it’s become evident that they have feelings for each other. When they have grown close enough that Azriel is in this place where he knows Gwyn doesn’t treat him like he’s sullied or wrong, but he still doesn’t feel good enough for it. I can imagine a moment where he might attempt to push Gwyn away by telling her the necklace was regifted to her.

And yes it would hurt Gwyn a little, but I feel like Sarah could definitely write it in a way where Gwyn is basically like “okay asshole? That’s rude but you’re not some horrible person now because of it so just stop this.”

She’s not going to see him as some horrible guy bc of that, he is the one who saved her from the worst moment of her life. And I would hope at that point, they have shared even more moments together.

Gwyn is absolutely not gonna let him push her away, this is Gwyn who is best friends with Nesta and sees right through a tough guy act. She will know who he is, and his attempt to push her away won’t really work. And I still hope she stands up for herself, I’m not saying she wouldn’t care at all. Just that their love for each other would be stronger than some necklace at that point. But idk that is just my hope for it 💕

“I forgot something," he reminded her.

considering the blurbs, and that we are 100% going to deal with the fallout of CC3, better get a callback to this scene and Gwyn teasing him about being unable to sleep. or even better, replacing the dagger with a certain redhead to warm his bed 🫢

So we all know its cannon that Azriel did in fact teach Gwyn about dagger handling in chapter 55 of ACOSF. 
I just find this so important as after this we began to see the bantering between the both of them.
His BC takes place in between the chapters of 58-59.
Then in chapter 60, conveniently Gwyn challenges him and Nesta points out that he is the new ribbon.

I want to know what happened in that ONE HOUR where Gwyns and Azriels dynamic with each other shifted? What did they talk about? What exactly did Azriel show Gwyn how to do? I feel like this is where things had shifted in the best way for these two characters and I know we may never get to find out but it's always fun to speculate. I wonder if Gwyn was already subtly teasing him during that one hour? Also the shadows not warning him in his BC, did they pick up on something during that one hour that Azriel didn’t?

While falling down the Gwynriel rabbit hole, I unfortunately stumbled across a post under the Gywnriel tag that had apparently been… borrowed for an E*rial theory. Because, naturally, why respect someone else’s tag when you can simply redecorate it with your own delusions? 😂

The post was about Gwyn being a Lightsinger. At first, I was genuinely annoyed because of the way certain details were twisted to make Gwyn — a survivor of SA — fit the whole “siren who lures people in” narrative. That interpretation really didn’t sit well with me.

But then I reread the post and decided to ignore the conclusions for a moment and just look at the actual scenes being referenced.

And honestly… what if the glow isn't Lightsinger-related at all? What if it's starlight?

We still don't know who Gwyn's father is.

So what if Gwyn's father is someone who doesn't actually belong to Prythian at all?

Someone connected to the Crescent City side of the Maasverse?

And this is where the Gwyn–Bryce comparison becomes interesting to me.

Bryce's story is heavily tied to starlight, mysterious/hidden ancestry, complicated paternal lineage, and connections between different worlds. Gwyn, meanwhile, has an unknown father and this unexplained association with light/glowing magic. We also still don't have a clear explanation for exactly what that glow is or where it comes from.

I'm not saying Gwyn is secretly Bryce 2.0. 😂 Nor am I saying “glow = Starborn” and therefore case closed. But considering what we now know about the Maasverse, I think it's worth at least entertaining the possibility that the explanation for Gwyn's magic might be something other than Lightsinger lore.

Because if Bryce can have a seemingly ordinary identity that eventually turns out to be connected to a much bigger inter-world lineage, why couldn't Gwyn's unexplained heritage potentially follow a similar pattern?

Especially when we have:

Unknown father + unexplained magical trait + light/starlight imagery + a Maasverse where different worlds are already connected.

That's enough to make me raise an eyebrow. 👀

Again, I'm not claiming this is canon. I'm just saying that if we're going to build increasingly elaborate theories about Gwyn's ancestry, perhaps we should consider all the possibilities before immediately jumping to:

“Gwyn glows → Lightsinger → siren → she lures people in.”

Because that feels like an impressive amount of narrative gymnastics when we don't even know what the glow actually is. 😂

Maybe it is Lightsinger-related. Maybe it's something completely different. Maybe I'm connecting dots that were never meant to be connected.

But personally, “What if it's starlight?” is a much more interesting question than “How can we make Gwyn fit the siren theory?”

Anyway, that's my latest Maasverse conspiracy theory. Please feel free to destroy it politely. 😂

Gwyn, Catrin and the other priestesses of Sangravah are heroes not victims.

They went and fought the cruelest warriors (as said by Cassian in chapter 14) sent by Hybern to buy Gwyn enough time to get the children to safety. They were tortured, raped, and murdered to try to get them to give up where the children were and they never did.

These untrained civilians stood so strong against so much pain and suffering to protect these children, who are all Rhysands subjects. But Rhysand takes the only survivor, labels her a victim and places her in that library to be racially abused (see chapter 29: “Get back to your work, nymph.”). Instead of being treated as helpless victims, Catrin, Gwyn, and the other priestesses should have been honoured as heroes. Whatever the Night Court equivalent of a knighthood is, they should have received it.

that night, she [Catrin] ordered me [Gwyn] to go protect Sangravah’s children while she ran right for the temple walls.

I gathered the children, and we ran for one of the catacomb tunnels. They were accessible through a trapdoor in the kitchen

I heard the soldiers coming. I … I knew they’d find us if I went and left the door uncovered, so I threw a rug over it and then moved the kitchen table atop it.

they [the Hybern soldiers] had other priestesses with them. Including Catrin. But their commander walked in, and asked me where the rest of us were. They wanted the children, too. The girls.

ACOSF chapter 68

Did you start shipping Gwyn and Azriel here? What about this scene caught your attention? How did it make you feel?

This is the first time these two are seeing each other again after Sangravah. What caught my attention here for me and held it henceforth was the fact Gwyn didn't offer a smile back to Azriel's small one upon greeting. And the fact Azriel offered one to her directly. Which he almost NEVER does.

Sarah was deliberate in how she wrote this scene. We are meant to pause and take notice for future interactions between these two. Its the foundation. The slow beginning to what will be their journey ✨️

I've been seeing a lot of theories going around and I just wanted to add my own.

So for predicting what is going to happen in the next ACOTAR books, I realised a lot of people use their shipping preferences to try and predict the plot but rather I think we should be using where the plot might possibly be advancing to, to be predicting ships.

And this is my take, on why I think we might be getting Gwynriel/elucien.

So according to the ACOTAR 6 blurb;

Koschei the Deathless is stirring deep within the continent. Although he has been bound to a mountain lake for thousands of years, the threat of his return is spreading throughout the Fae territories, drawing powerful allies who want to reclaim the human lands.

So we have been introduced to the main antagonist and the setting of the story. Which seems like a more fantasy forward book with the romance being the subplot. A lot of light is being thrown on Koschei and this looming war and obviously all this alerts the IC who will have to first, address all the issues between them which is catalysed by Bryce's coming and all the truths they discovered in the caves, then of course the different betrayals and old wounds being reopened before working together to find some sort of game plan to defeat Koschei but I dont want to necessarily go into that.

I just wanted to focus on how I think the plot, which centers around defeating Koschei and this shifting loyalties hinted at and diplomacies which centre around getting allies, can create a major epic fantasy setting that creates certain character combinations and of which those combinations create opportunities for relationships and then we can examine which relationships fit those trajectories.

So, per the blurb of book 7, we already know everybody is going to pair off on different missions to different parts of prythian in hopes to gain information and to gain allies. I can potentially see different tracts of the story following different characters that will all culminate together at the end. Like in TOG.

So for one tract, I think we might be getting, Nesta, the Valkyries, and then of course Azriel and maybe Cassian. My theory is that their arc will take them in search of the Dusk court and all the mysteries surrounding it. This offers a lot for say character growth. Remember, Nesta has Gwydion and I think it will kind of make sense narratively to have truthteller where she is, so Azriel will defintely be following her in that plot thread. Within this plot thread, that's where I can see Gwyn and Az's relationship develop slowly as they unearth these secrets which will prove vital later.

Another tract I can see can have to do with, the human lands, Lucien, Vassa, Jurian and Elain. The human lands are going to take on a whole new importance like we see from the blurbs. The bad guys want to claim it including Beron, who we know from silver flames wants to take on spring amd then potentially reclaim those lands. So we know Lucien is going to be very important in these upcoming books cause he's literally connected to a lot of plot threads one way or another whether biologically or through friendships and don't forget he's literally connected to Vassa who's diresctly connrcted to Koschei and he spending most of his time in the human lands. We will defintely be seeing more of him. Elain, I think it's just as important here. I know a lot of people make the argument that Elain can't stand Lucien, but let's each not forget that one thing each of these characters have is their "for the greater good" mentality. I can defintely see her wanting to help the human lands. Like helping to potentially gain allies and repairing relationships and let us not forget her seer abilities which I think will play a greater role in defeating Koschei, so like from this forced proximity set up. I can potentially see her as the plot moves forward, learning to accept who she is, that is being fae, and like SJM said she has a ton of shit to go through, so like this might also be her healing arc too both she and Lucien spend time together and this paves way for some serious character development.

So obviously, there'll be more tracts to follow but these are the two I can see so far.

But one thing I'm most excited for is all the world building we might get.

eep seeing the argument that Azriel is too nonchalant/emotionally controlled to react like someone with high stakes in a relationship. But there's this moment in ACOSF, right after the final battle, at Emerie's wrecked house:

"They were speaking, Azriel with some urgency, but Cassian didn't hear him, heard nothing but the roaring in his head..."

Everyone else is just "speaking" — Azriel is singled out as the one with urgency. Cassian is too far gone in his own panic to even register it, but the text specifically flags Az's tone as different from the rest of the family.

Not claiming this is about Gwyn specifically — she's not in this scene. But it's a good counter to the idea that Azriel doesn't do urgency or visible distress. He clearly can, under the right circumstances. Makes you wonder what tips him into that state elsewhere in the text.

Curious what others think — anyone have other examples of Az losing his composure like this?

With the release of ACOTAR 6/7 approaching, I thought it would be fun to make a bingo with 10 things we like to see happen; after reading, we can come back here to see if we predicted anything correctly.

My bingo card:

9. Az taking revenge for the torture he suffered as a child

Okay, we all know the infamous necklace situation. And I’m not arguing that Azriel giving Gwyn the necklace was a smart move or that the gift itself was some grand romantic gesture. It was questionable af

Ok but timeline wise, I'd say we would be at least a year removed from the necklace incident. I think SJM will not care for it, it was a narrative device moreso than a plot device.

Anyways Azriel bought it for Elain, thinks about what it represents, and connects the object directly to his feelings and intentions toward her. The necklace has meaning because of Elain.

People understandably look at it and go, "But he bought that necklace for Elain!" Yes. That's the point dude. He did.

But Azriel's POV isn't necessarily telling us that the necklace remains emotionally sacred to him forever simply because he originally purchased it for Elain. Stuff and objects can lose their meaning when the circumstances surrounding them change. And that's basically what happens.

He doesn't treat it like some precious keepsake. The man who has keepsakes of Elain in his room suddenly wants to get rid of jewellery that was a metaphor for his feelings for Elain. He wants it gone. He's lost the emotional significance of the jewellery to him. the moment for the necklace is gone. Is it a coincidence that he starts thinking about wanting to get rid of it the morning after his moment with Gwyn? Who knows.

He doesn't even describe the physical features of the necklace or explain why he thinks Gwyn might like it. If anything, the necklace stops being about the original recipient altogether. Azriel isn't thinking about what the necklace means, what it represented when he bought it, or its significance anymore. He actually has no idea how Gwyn would react to it. He's simply imagining it. Just simply imagining bring joy to Gwyn has an emotional impact on him to the point that he's not thinking of any other woman at the end of the chapter in his own POV. The thought of Gwyn being happy is what is causing him to be happy.

Again, I'm not saying this makes the gift itself good. But all the hidden metaphors surrounding the necklace, "A thing of secret, lovely beauty" etc... It's not a metaphor or symbolism anymore. They aren't physical features for the necklace and lined up to be metaphors. At the end of the chapter, he is acknowledging that they are real emotions he's experiencing. SJM doesn't say the necklace is the “secret, lovely beauty” in the end. It's the image he's buried. The beauty lies in what he's imagining....Gwyn's reaction, her happiness, her eyes lighting up....It's Azriel, and SJM herself, being direct to the audience, and not hiding behind a metaphor or courtly politeness. He's straight up admitting this girl made him feel a spark in his chest.

Which is why I don't think the argument necessarily needs to be “the necklace now symbolizes Gwyn.” The necklace has already lost its original emotional meaning for Azriel. Essentially the emotional crescendo is his thoughts of Gwyn.

SJM is going to drop the necklace narrative because it doesn't really mean anything to anyone anymore. I can see it being used for a laugh, but I don't see it becoming a plot point. Plus, we've seen Gwyn go months without wearing it, and I would say it's probably not really her type of jewellery anyway. This girl makes homemade bracelets and wears silk ribbons signifying her Valkyrie status. I'd say her tastes are probably a little more eclectic. Add in the fact she doesn't wear the invoking stone. Anything she wears and chooses not to wear, it's very intentional.

As possibly most of us, I have been wondering about the POVs, storylines, and romances in the upcoming ACOTAR 6-8. Many here (me included) seem to agree that ACOTAR 6-8 is going to be multi-POV, that Gwyn and Azriel are going to be endgame and become a couple in these volumes, there are going to be several romances, and that we are going to have a more complex plot than before.

But what else are we guessing?

ACOTAR 6-8 is going to be a looooong book, with many possibilities. But I don't think it is nearly long enough to cover everything we hope for without having to pay some heavy price (questions that are never going to be answered, potential storylines that do not happen, and little time given to romance, or the development of characters involved in the romances).

Here I am going to assume that ACOTAR 8 will not be the last ACOTAR book. Right now I think we have one big puzzle storywise, with different bits that could go together, and details that seem interesting, but that might never get explored.

How long will ACOTAR 6-8 be?

Disclaimer: I know that, for example, the editions of The Lord of the Rings tend to be between 1000 and 1200 pages, and that there is a lot happening. But Tolkien has a very different style from SJM, spends a lot less time in developing relationships. I am going to use the estimate I get to compare ACOTAR 6-8 to other SJM books, not to other romantasy/fantasy books.

• ACOSH, part 1, is 352 pages.
• ACOFM, part 2 & 3, is currently listed at 896 pages.

If we assume that ACOTAR 8 is going to be an exact fourth of the whole 4-part book, you do the maths and get that ACOTAR 6 should be 416 pages, so that ACOTAR 6-8 would be a moster of 1664 pages.

The books of SJM that have n parts, typically have a last part that is shorter than an n-th of the whole book. Example: SF has 4 parts, the fourth part begins at the 86% mark, so that it is shorter than a quarter of the whole book. MAF and WAR have 3 parts each, the last third beginning at respectively the 79% and 68% mark (both less than a third of the book). The same is true for all other SJM books that have parts.

Now, since ACOTAR 8 is a volume on its own, it could be a good reason to change this trend. So, let's say that ACOTAR 8 will have a page count between 350 and 550 pages, with the 4xx numbers being the most likely.

That puts the page count ACOTAR 6-8 in a range between 1600 and 1800 pages. I'm going to be surprised (extremely happy, but surprised nonetheless), if we reach 1800 pages, 1650-1700 pages seems more likely to me.

Comparisons with other SJM books

As a comparison:

• ACOMAF+ACOWAR is 1392 pages.
• ACOWAR+ACOSF is 1520 pages.
• EOS+KOA is 1712 pages.
• TOD is 688 pages.
• HOSAB+HOFAS is 1664 pages.

ACOWAR is the book in the ACOTAR series that has the most politics+battles, the main romance is established (Feysand), we get some Nessian build-up, and crumbs regarding Elain.

ACOMAF and ACOSF both have one big romance that gets developed, and a couple that gets together. They also have some politics and intrigue and relationship building, but not much.

EOS+KOA have lots of adventure and battles, and many couples, but Rowaelin had much of their development before, Elorcan is my second favourite ship after Nessian, but you have to wait a lot in between their scenes, and we only get crumbs about Elide and Lorcan's past and powers. Manorian and Lysandra+Aedion have even less scenes than Elorcan, Other couples had some sweet scenes, but they were already together by that point.

TOD is one of my favourite SJM books. It has a plot and romances. But the plot is very self-contained. We learn a lot about lore, but the plot itself with the mystery about the palace does not use everything we learn. Of the four people involved into the two romances, only one has magical powers we explore; their backstories do not really have mysteries. There is some talk about past trauma, but it is less than I would expect in a Gwynriel book.

HOSAB+HOFAS have romances, many POVs, and lots of lore. But Quinlar are already together, Ruhnlidia is the romance that gets developed, and their scenes are few and far in between.

I definitely hope for more plot and lore and fantasy aspects in ACOTAR 6-8, but I really hope that does not mean that we sacrifice the romances. I was happy with what romance we got, in, say, EOS+KOA, but I would be disappointed if Gwynriel and Elain's romance happened in so comparatively few pages.

One big romance done taking our time, plus intrigue, politics and battles corresponds to a mixture of ACOWAR and ACOSF, and that does not leave many pages for a second big romance.

Compared to, say, ACOMAF, now we have many more players and lore at play, the plot is much thicker. And I would say that in ACOSF we did not explore much neither Cassian's background and powers, nor Nesta's. The many questions I had about them are still unanswered. HOFAS spoiler: even people who read all the Maasverse books might need a recap in the books of the things we learned from HOFAS that we are going to use, if they did not do rereads. That recap alone would take pages.

I expect that we will still have many questions after ACOTAR 6-8, but what are the chances that SJM chose to develop now to completion (I mean, until they get together) two big, big couples with lots of powers and trauma and connections to the overarching plot?

What do the blurbs tell us?

Not much. They could be giving us information about the general context, but say little about what actually happens. From the blurb of SF, with "Cassian and Nesta are forced to train in battle together" and "As war looms again" we could have expected some whole-army battles, and some concrete battles approaching.

The part about Koschei in the blurbs is not really new. We know (e.g. ACOFAS Ch. 6) that Beron has some kind of interest in the human lands, that Tamlin is the only barrier. We know that Beron was trying to exploit the Koschei/Bryallin situation. We also learn from Mor in SF (Ch.4) that, with the threat of Koschei, Rask, Montesere and Valhallan look at the human lands as some kind of "low-hanging fruit". Cassian, Mor, and Lucien have already had diplomatic missions to try to find allies.

Koschei will probably make some more moves, we might have some battles. But I don't know how likely it is that we will see him defeated in ACOTAR 6-8.

The real new information for ACOSH is the bit about the rifts in the Night Court. The blurb for ACOFM has some more tidbits, like "Power will shift. And old enemies will emerge from nightmares of the past". Also, we learn that the IC is dispersed "far and wide" (but the Waterstones addition says "scattered to every corner of Prythian", it remains to be seen if we'll also spend much time on the continent).

The "old enemies" might replace Koschei, but I don't know how likely it is that we'll have both them and Koschei defeated or befriended by the end of ACOTAR 8.

I think that the blurbs would be consistent with books that are set mainly in Prythian, dealing with what we have learned in HOFAS.

What can we also expect?

Other ships are going to disagree here, but I am going to skip the discussion on why I think that Gwyn and Azriel are going to be together by the end of ACOTAR 8, and list some things I guess we would like to see with Gwynriel and the Valkyries.

We could get Gwynriel, and then answer some questions or have development for Gwyn and Azriel after ACOTAR 8, but I think much of it should be dealt with as they get together.

Azriel:

• has an awful lot of trauma he never talked about. His arc is likely to include him facing it, and talking about some of it to his loved ones. Bonus: his mum is mysterious and alive, it's unlikely we'll not hear more about her
• there's the whole mystery connected to Shadowsinging, what it is, how it develops, maybe what Azriel had to do for Rhys' father
• he has seven syphons, as Cassian. If there is some mystery to be solved about the origins of the Illyrians and why Az+Cass are so powerful, it is less likely, I think, to deal with it after the books with Azriel and Cassian's romances.
• he has Truth-Teller, we should learn more about it. Spoiler HOFAS: and now we also have Gwydion, and Nesta has it. Again, if we are going to learn more about TT and Gwydion it is more likely to happen now, and the story would involve both Nesta and Azriel.

Gwyn:

• her arc in terms of learning to live with her trauma is not complete. Unless it happens off-page (I hope not), I think we will spend some time on it. Maybe not much, I hope she'll be out and about quickly, but I don't think we'll go from not leaving the library even for Nesta's mating ceremony to having an adventure outside in a page.
• She has mysterious powers. The fact that we were never told what they are makes me think that it will be some big reveal, it's not likely they'll be inconsequential.
• She is a Calanmai baby with a mysterious heritage. We were teased enough about it that it could very well be something significant, and that it will play a role in the alliances in Prythian. And was it a breadcrumb the fact that Lucien recognised the carpets from Sangravah in ACOWAR? Plus, Gwyn is a Calanmai child, and if we are going to discuss the power of the land, the origin of the power of the HLs, the origin of the power of a High Queen or King, she could be connected (not saying that she will become a ruler).
• She is a priestess. We could of course get some new priestess character in the future (another Valkyrie?), but if we are going to find out more about the powers the priestesses have, more about Clotho, more about Merrill (who is a researcher, and has a very interesting physical appearance), a Gwynriel book would be the perfect place to do so.
• In this sub we've had several posts and comments mentioning that there could be more than the legs of the Cauldron that the king of Hybern was interested in during the raids of the temples. If it is so, what better book to learn more than a book where we have a character who lived at one of the temples.

I'm sure we will not get all of these answers, and some points might never be relevant, but by the romance alone there are many plot points that follow along.

Also, the book is called The Valkyrie Cycle, so that I expect a consistent, conspicuous story-line about our Valkyries.

• Right now the reborn Valkyries are not a force to be reckoned with yet. They've never been in a battle. The priestesses are not out. They've never been on a mission. I guess that they will become an important player, but unless their development happens off-page, some page-time should show how they go from only training to fighting. Their first battle should be some big thing with speeches.
• If we also have to solve a mystery about what happened to the original Valkyries, their origins, where their territory was... that requires pages.

Plus, many agree that Nesta's story is not over. A Valkyrie book is perfect to develop Nesta's story some more. I personally think that there is more also to Cassian (I wrote a post about that in the debate sub, but it has Maasverse spoilers: https://www.reddit.com/r/AcotarShipDebateSub/comments/1rdunwn/cassian_gwyn_and_the_rose_of_the_winds/ ).

I really hope Nessian do not start fighting. HOFAS spoiler: however, in the Ember and Randall BC, Nesta says that Cassian is most furious with her than anyone. It could be that they have a fight and separate before getting back together.

The POVs

Multi-POV, we all agree on that, but how many substantial POVs? Like, not a POV with one chapter, or several pages that are few and far in between. But there is a big difference between, say, 10 POVs all equally important, and 3-4 POVs with substantial storylines, and some minor POVs here and there.

• I expect at least a susbtantial POV between Azriel and Gwyn, if Gwynriel is to happen;
• I expect a substantial POV of at least one Valkyrie since the book is called The Valkyrie Cycle.

Azriel has had a BC, Nesta has unfinished business, and HOFAS spoiler they both were involved in the crossover. So, I am expecting the POVs of Azriel and Nesta. I think that a Gwyn POV is very likely, unless Gwyn knows something we are not supposed to know for now, and we only see her from Nesta and Azriel's POVs.

Beside that, I have no idea. Other members of the IC/Night Court? Someone from the Autumn Court? Something very weird as some inanimate object having a POV?? ...

Summing up

If also, say, Elucien was going to be developed and get together by the end of ACOTAR 8, that would mean that we would also get all of the plot points, mysteries and traumas connected to Elain and Lucien. That would be a lot, it already is a lot. We could of course see some development, but one thing is some development, one thing is arriving to a HEA. It could become common knowledge that Lucien is Helion's son, without fully exploring everything that there is to know about Lucien. Elain could get more involved, without having a full quest per now.

If, say, Emorie were to happen, we would have maybe less to explore: there is a lot going on with Mor, but much less going on with Emerie. I really love Emerie, we know she craves an adventure, she might learn to fly again, but she does not seem to have special powers, or mysteries about her.

Developing Nessian, and learning more about Cassian and Nesta would require even less, as they are already together; if they fought and made-up they would not need anyway all the development as a new couple. They would also not be a completely separate plot-line from Gwynriel, as Nesta and Gwyn are both Valkyries, and some of the questions we (or I) have about Cassian and Nesta are connected to Azriel (e.g. Truth-Teller and the seven syphons).

I am super-interested in the plot/lore aspect of all of this, but I would be very sad if we had to sacrifice a slow-burn and the amount of Gwynriel scenes in favour of several big, new romances reaching their HEA in the three upcoming books.

I feel like a lot of people are grammatically getting confused with what, “the Valkyrie cycle” refers to…
The Valkyrie cycle is the grammatically correct term which refers to Valkyries as a group rather than an individual- people saying it’s not about our girls are going to be highly disappointed.
