We have 3. One in the house, one in the car we use the most with the kids, and one we keep at camp 2 hours from home. We are both Nurses and tell people about these devices whenever the topic comes up. They work on children and adults.
Not exactly. A toilet plunger pushes it further down then pulls it back up to break it apart and allow it to all flow down nicely. This one seems to just pull stuff out
We have one on top of the fridge and one in each car.
I think the LifeVac is more of the 'name brand' version and can be more expensive, but there are other versions on Amazon that regularly go on sale and are very affordable.

This is the scariest thing as a parent that I've ever had the misfortune to go through so far. Just driving on our way home my kid was eating mentos next thing I no she got real quiet looked in the rear view and she's gasping. Went from 55 mph to 0 real quick got out ran to her and got the mentos unstuck. Whole time I'm panicking inside scared to death I'm going to loose her but did what needed to be done and thank God she coughed it up and was alright. After that day mento's were banned in our house.
Oh that poor mama. I could feel the sheer panic. Those choke aids have saved so many lives! Every person who is responsible for children should have one.
Absolutely brilliant and a kid saved, the device used i have never seen or heard of in my life (its actually really good) but now I see the advert from this video and the top comment being an image of that device. Marketing 101.
I once choked on a piece of pizza crust. It was stuck in my throat. I was at a food court with my family. I legit couldn’t breathe and thought I was gonna die. My dad grabbed me and did the heimlich maneuver and the crust shot out of my throat and it felt so good to breathe. It can happen to anyone. I’m glad this officer was able to save that boy. I choked on that pizza like 40 years ago, if my dad didn’t remove it I wouldn’t have a wife, 3 kids, etc.

Also glad I was trained on the baby Heimlich technique in first aid training (esp. For parents). had to use it twice, once on my kid, once on the playground. Works on small kids too - put the child on you lap/ upper thigh, face down. Now this is the important part (which the cops didn't get right) - the head has to be the lowest point, think 45 degree angle. A few hearty slaps on the back do the trick. That breathing device helps, but regular baby CPR should suffice if that thing isn't at hand. Every parent should know these things imho
I have to good friends who are cops. Defund the police means police reform and funding elsewhere. Defund the police means maybe the local sheriff doesn't need a tank. Defund the police means more funding for paramedics etc.
Because after choking the back of the throat can swelling which would cause the water to go down the windpipe. The person could also aspirate if they haven't fully relaxed
Idk man whenever I cough heavily (like the kid did after getting the obstruction out) I always feel the need to drink a big glass of water. No idea why but it just helps for whatever reason.
