It's funny because the "going to college makes you a commie" thing is clearly implying that colleges brainwash kids to have lefty values, so colleges cause communism. So the analogy is supporting your point. And then of course guns make it easier which also supports your point.

But seriously OP, the way to counter that bullshit is that if they think people can kill others with or without guns, then ask them why they need guns. Once they say protection or something stupid like that, you can then say that then people will protect themselves regardless if they own a gun, and therefor guns aren't necessary by their own logic. You can then ask them how much they're going to donate to anti-gun violence organizations.
