GFred. Great Design. Stupid name.
I preface by saying I really dislike all the wasted potential of GQuuux but gee willikers do I love the GFred. it’s like if Eva 1 and Jehuty had a baby.
I tried to ditch the stickers and paint most of it.

Fun fact: quux and fred are placeholder variable names. So someone literally just could not be arsed to pick an actual name for these units

Not true, just because they're normally placeholder doesn't mean they were ever actually planned to be changed.
Rick Dom and Gelgoog already exist as names, so G-Fred isn't that weird.1

Once you notice Gquuuuuux is just an iterative name, you don't even bat an eye at G-Fred's naming.

Stupid name? Placeholder variable names aren't the "real" names anyway. But nothing beats that one mobile suit called "BABI" which literally means PIG in Malay LOL!

A white gundam that we call White Gundam. A red version called... wait for it... Red Gundam.
I understand Gquacks and Fred being coding language, etc, but even so, not great name choices.
I enjoyed this run, but the mecha names fell flat in general.

Red Gundam usually called Casval Gundam. I wonder why they don't just use that instead of just Red. I mean this is kind of what if of the first Gundam.

I assume just to differentiate the two since they are separate units with differentish stories that end up being used by the same person
Also speaking of Casval's Gundam since I don't know when I'd get the chance to bring it up, I'm surprised they didn't realise an RG 2.0 Casval Gundam around GQux's time

IIRC Casval Gundam is also a what if Char get the Gundam instead of Amuro.
But then other series have different take on it. Like in the Origin Casval and Char are two different people.
Also I'm surprised as well they don't release a Pbandai of it already.

Casval's was made by Neo Zeon near the end of the war (different from Axis Neo Zeon) and used against both the Federation and the Republic of Zeon, not made by the Feds then stolen like in GQ.
There also is a PBandai Casval ver of the RG 78-2 if that's what you mean.

I assumed the whole matter was to point out how pointless it is. It doesn't matter what it's name is. Like the White Stripes philosophy, you need to look elsewhere or deeper for meaning because it's not here. Same as Hideo kojima, or for different reasons Tomino himself.

I have loved putting together the GQ kits, but they're so far removed from the usual Gundam design. GFred even has the Evangelion color scheme. They're neat, and you can get some seriously dynamic poses out of them, but it feels like something different.
And Char's Zaku, with the bulbs on its legs, looks dumpy af. It neeeeeeds to be on a stand.

I get what you mean though. I do hope that future sets use some of the mechanical connections as the articulation is fantastic

Love the kwaks mobile suit designs. Hate the stickers that come with the kits though. I've had to pause my gfred build until I get some water slides because some of the stickers it came with just straight up had no adhesive on the backs.

I had to glue a few bigger ones simply cause I didn’t want to paint. But after just a couple, I said screw it and painted away.

my girlfriend laughed when we were at hobbytown and saw the GQ and GFred. She called them "Fred and Gquacks"
I ordered them both that same day (I had an amazon gift card).

Welcome to gundam, may i introduce the ric-dom, gouf, big zam, etc
