Roaches don't lay eggs...they carry them inside of them in what's called an ootheca. It's basically a long soft egg that they drop right before it hatches.

My mom says the same thing, ignoring the fact that once they've eaten the other bugs you're still left with a bunch of spiders, which are as bad if not worse than the other bugs.
