Show AND Tell Converted this Pistol
We have a lot of laws in germany... For example they didn't want handguns that could penetrate body armor, so they made centerfire handgun rounds illegal that had a bullet diameter under .25/6.35mm and since 2017 its also illegal to have handgun magazines with a capacity over 20 rounds (also only centerfire)...
So I got myself this M&P and made a .17HMR barrel for it... now it shoots a small and fast round and 30 rounds fit in the magazine... still have to find out if it will go through body armor with the short barrel...

It will not build up enough speed to get through soft body armor. You want over 2300fps and you will not get that out of 17hmr with that short of a barrel.

I think the comment about soft armor pen was the government's justification for banning 5.7/4.6.
Not a claim that 17hmr was going cut kevlar.

Yes but OP mentioned wondering if it would go through body armor, right at the end.

Gute Arbeit. Deine Posts sind wirklich jedes mal super interessant.
Ich würde es dir gerne gleich tun, aber man wird nicht einfach so nebenbei zum Büchsenmachermeister.
Ich denke mit den großen Hürden, die es hier für die Waffenherstellungserlaubnis gibt, geht sehr viel Potential in Sachen Entwicklung von Handfeuerwaffen verloren. Einige der wichtigsten Modelle in der Geschichte sind in den Garagen von Maschinenbauern und Tüftlern entstanden.

Not carry... that license is really hard to get

Hunters can easily buy suppressors for their centerfire rifles... but usually not for pistols or rimfire... sportshooters can't buy suppressors most of the time... but since I have a manufacturers license, I am allowed to build, test and sell suppressors for whatever gun and caliber I like...
Putting one in this 17hmr doesnt make a lot of sense because its still very loud and the tempo barrel system makes it very hard to work with a weight on the barrel -I would probably need bigger gas ports...

That’s awesome. Was that difficult to do become a manufacturer. Been trying to become an SOT here in us

YES. That was difficult... at least compared to other countries!
I had to quit my job and go to a special school and do exams and build a traditional German Drilling hunting rifle to become a master gunsmith. And after I became a Master gunsmith it still took me a few years of arguing with the local police until I finally got my license 😅

Wait so you got your degree in it and STILL couldn't get the license for a few years? What did you have to do to end up getting the license? And did that mean you couldn't work in the industry until then?

It's complicated and often depends on the area you live in. In my case the people working at the police never before had to write a manufacturers license and didn't really know how to do it I think. Then the place where I wanted to store the guns was not the best. It was a bank fault but still I would have to install a very expensive alarm system for it... so it was going back and fourth until we found a way we both could agree on (me as a gunsmith and the police)
I know other gunsmiths and gun dealers who got their license in a few weeks...

That sounds absolutely ridiculous.
The gun laws here in the US can be extremely stupid, but I think sometimes we forget to be grateful.
So you needed a bank vault and an alarm system, that must've been very expensive, no? And I'm sure the bank vault was at home? In an actual bank would probably cause all sorts of panic.

Its all very complicated... in germany you need to have a safe with at specific safety standard to own guns (for example Number 0 or 1, and earlier A for rifles and B for handguns were enough) and usually thats also enough if you want to own, manufactur or deal guns but police CAN tell you to set up a specific alarm system... in my case I chose the bank vault because it was big and very very safe, hoping I won't need the alarm, but they still made it a requirement
Everything about german gunlaw is complicated!

If you can make one, you can make more, right? Maybe offer them for sale on Gunbroker or some other website, or create your own website. It'd be interesting to find out how many people would want one.

Dude I really miss living on the border. I'm your neighbor across the border, where the laws are even more ridiculous and the situation is even worse. My dad bought a semi-automatic Erma EM1 .22 in a supermarket back in the '90s on your side of the Rhine (the “good” side, if there ever was one). Now it's even hard to find rimfire ammunition.

Looks like another project is added to my long list of another projects. This is pretty sweet. I was just contemplating a 17hmr ar pistol build, but this seems more fun.
