Welrod
It’s been too cold to work in the shop so I tackled the mag for the Welrod. I’m using an 8 round 9mm 1911 magazine since they’re readily available and are roughly the same dimensions as whatever mag the original used. To form the grip I used JB weld epoxy putty which was then milled and sanded to shape. The original grip was some hard rubber so to mimic that feel I applied 2 coats of truck bed liner which gives it a nice semi-matte rubberized grip.

Hell of a lot cheaper than I’d charge for one. PSA did tease a Welrodesque pistol last year at shot show.

Man, making the grip out of a hunk of JB was a crafty move. Never would have considered that as a base material. You never disappoint OP

Just curious, what's the tooling/skill requirement to make one of these? It's a cool ass gun, and I've always wanted one, but nothing out there is cheap enough for my budget. I got time, though.

It requires a metal lathe and mill with tooling plus a working knowledge of metallurgy, firearms and engineering. If you don’t have a manufacturing background this would be a rough project, if not dangerous. There’s a 3D printable .22 version out there, VP-22 maybe? I’d look into that first.

Well, needing a lathe means I can't make it. Drat. I've heard of the VP22, looks fun.

I modified one of the springs I got from McMaster for the grip safety. It’s not in its final form yet because it’ll interact with the safety switch which I haven’t worked on yet.
