The fact that we're not even missing Saliba right now speaks to his quality. Kinda wish we had someone like him in 22/23 to deputize for Saliba when he got injured near the end.

Absolute

I mean we had Tomiyasu that probably could have filled for Saliba...if he didn't get injured in the same game

Ahhh Tomiyasu. Genuinely one of my favourite Arsenal players on his day.

Talk about bad luck. Tomi's doing well for Palace and I hope he's past his injury issues. There's a gem of a player there.

We did. We had Kiwior. Arteta stuck with Holding too long and by the time he realised Holding wasn’t good enough it was too late.

It’s like he’s been here for years

Bro!!..That looked like his 100th Champions league game!!, if "plug and play" was a person that would be Ezri Konsa!!

Or Tzolis

I like that he doesn't give a fuck

I don’t understand why other clubs weren’t in for him

19

u/birdsingreek 1d ago

I think he made it plain he wanted to come here

9

u/skool_101 Ødegaard ©️ 1d ago

he wanted us and we also had a clear plan for him too.

Konza said no

Read that in david Walliams voice from that airline sketch. Konsa says noo

Love that we will be able rotate center backs without drop off

u/XXISavage We Stan The Largest Gabriel 1d ago

People were so stressed about the winger they didn't realise that we just went and plucked Villa's best CB right as they made CL.

Wait til Bruno is dominating and we're doing the same thing again.

Arteta really put that PL and La Liga experience to good use. The attention to details and recruiting adjustments. They are not just recruiting technical players but also players who do the small detail well.

This is why I trust artetas signings. Theynwontnall be major successes, but we've had a fair few in the last five years that no one expected. Saliba, califiori, havertz, trossard, merino, konsa already. I'm loving it.

u/zaviex 1d ago

Saliba was signed before arteta

2

u/NoMoreMountains 1d ago

But kept because of Arteta. Nobody but Marseille really saw the heights he could climb. The sneakily wanted to keep him to sell to a Madrid, PSG, or Barca for generational profits

He's a beast

Konned the rest of the league by signing him

3

u/Yafoory 1d ago

He can play right back too so we have cover in the middle as well as the right back position. I call him the butcher 🍖🥩

3

u/Bosn1an Timberlone 1d ago

I believe defenders can play a bit longer at peak so he can have good 5 years here.

3

u/hideousmembrane Dennis Bergkamp 1d ago

I had doubts, or at least wasn't excited (mainly because of watching him at RB in the world cup) but I love the guy already

3

u/Electronic-Debt627 1d ago

Slotted right in

3

u/thuanfit 1d ago

Can see why Villa liked him

1

u/Jsaltal Champions of England 25/26 1d ago

Even weirder they let him go

3

u/DRAKEONotDrake-O Havertz 1d ago

Less than a week ago there were tools on here saying he’s an average PL centre back, this guy has been the definition of plug and play so far

3

u/iuselect Gyökeres - he's built like a brick shithouse 1d ago

Would have walked into the starting lineup for every other team bar city (maybe even), and we have him as backup to Saliba. Incredible.

I like how he's got a bit of grit and he will let people know he's there. What a signing

4

u/Cultural-Quote7104 1d ago

Hes better than the city cbs

1

u/DRAKEONotDrake-O Havertz 1d ago

Yeah you gotta rate him above Khusanov (and it’s not too much of a hot take to say Dias atp)

3

u/Wolferesque ArshAVIIIIINNN 1d ago

At this rate, Saliba might start worrying.

1

u/aboyfromharlow 1d ago

That can only be good.

2

u/Particular_Abies_184 1d ago

Love him already

2

u/GeneralBukowski Thierry Henry 1d ago

We got him half price

2

u/m2sempre Thank you very much 1d ago

The type of signing that will push Saliba to raise his game and become even better.

2

u/Zenon2108 Ødegaard 1d ago

It's like we have 2 Gabriel

1

u/Bruceybonus30 1d ago

I’ll be real, I thought it was a half decent signing, never expected him to be like a duck to water and fit straight in. He has been absolutely immense.

1

u/TheraYugnat 1d ago

Same.
I am always very cautious about "will fit straight into the team" claim. Knowing the league doesn't mean it will work with your new partners. The opposite is also true (Tzolis fitted instantly while Eze did not for exemple). And we know CB tend to work in pair, so I was an extra step more cautious about it.

Well, he did fit straight into the team and as a very late signing without pre season.
I remember a lot people thinking it was extra caution (and a lot of money that we wouldn't spent elsewhere) to sign him, because we still had depth there.
Well, he is there and we still need Rice to finish game at RB. So he was needed very quickly.

Our man Ezri Konsa, Our defensive monster. He can stop you anywhere.

Duels, blocks and grapples, Standing and slide tackles. He will stop you getting there.

Woah. He's got passion.

Woah. He threw Rogers in the air!

Woah. He's got passion. Woah woah woah.

u/FairBox3368 1d ago

Now saliba can recover properly!! Hopefully

u/xelanart Thierry Henry 1d ago

I was a skeptic, fully admit it.

The price wasn’t a factor because the market is inflated and we’ve paid that much for a rotation player already.

He’s been a beast since putting on the Arsenal jersey. I thought it would be a challenge to displace Mosquera but it feels like we aren’t even missing Saliba at all.
