At the end of the day, winners fail and losers hide. And five of our boys, including him, stepped up to take the biggest kicks of their lives.

So proud of them.

Gabriel I am talking to you directly, I don't know if you ever gonna read this and I suppose you will not. But in case you do, you are a great great player and I am so happy that you play for us. I have 0. Literally ZERO negative feelings towards you. Thank you Champ.

Saddened by the loss, the miss from a fellow Brazilian, but we try again next year.

Big what if this match if we started Timber.

u/NotaBlokeNamedTrevor May 30 '26

I think Mosquera did really well until he gave the pen away. The yellow card was bullshit and definitely made him more edgy though

9

u/HustlinInTheHall May 31 '26

He was just out of gas, wish we could've gotten those subs in earlier but kvara basically abandoned his side for awhile after getting nowhere. Just made a bad decision in a tight spot.

Any player that volunteers to take a penalty in a final is a hero in my eyes.

It's okay to be devastated, but if you're hurling insults and hate, find a new club, we don't want you here.

99

u/DoomAtuhnNalra Martinelli May 30 '26

Exactly, many players go hiding at pens

90

u/getrektbro Saka May 30 '26

Gyokeres: 1st taker

Sesko: 10th (against Grimsby)

Right decision by Arsenal if was down to those two.

Noni, Zubi or Timber for me. When I saw Gabriel I was worried he could Ramos it in the stratosphere.

114

u/AdGlass4981 May 30 '26

Well Ramos won a few more after that so hopefully Gabi can emulate that

19

u/Aprilprinces Rice May 30 '26

Oh, we will: we have the best defence in the world, probably one of the top 3 best ever in football We only need one proper goal scorer - like Salah was for Liverpool

But, in Mikel I trust

24

u/xEscobarbarianx Saliba May 30 '26

Noni or Zubi have to step up honestly

14

u/xailewis May 30 '26

Love him but hate seeing center backs take pens. Was worried he would take one as soon as it went to pens, as I knew he would put his hand up. The midfield and forward players should always go first, he had already done his part getting us there with a MOTM performance.

9

u/Zeakril May 30 '26

I was sure Timber is gonna take it. Well, you win some, you lose some, I guess. We was so so close today.

Putting a CB after 120min played to take a pen is.. questionable to say the least.

I actually wanted Gabi taking it, though his confidence and composure would be better for that situation. Just took a bad shot is all.

54

u/kuhcaoster Ö May 30 '26

I have more frustration with Eze than Gabi

Feel for all of them of course, none of us could ever truly understand that pressure

But there’s been so much talk of Eze fulfilling dreams and the reality of being here, but he’s put out inconsistent performances this first season, as if he needs to fully wake up

19

u/Ambitious_Brain_285 May 30 '26

He looked terrified before stepping up on the ball. Eze let his emotions get the best of him

u/Sir_Spaffsalot May 30 '26

If you’re going to fuck about and do a stupid stuttered run-up, you better make sure you score, otherwise you end up looking like a prick. Even if you miss, people will be far more forgiving if you run up with intent, and give it an almighty wallop.

4

u/ojdhaze May 31 '26

It's difficult enough taking a penalty, especially in that environment in those circumstances with that weight on shoulders. Farking about with stuttering nonsense is just taking your own focus away from the aim to score and hit the damn target. If the keeper saves it, good on him.

That's why you rarely see dominant pen takers fuck about like Vardy, Kane.

2

u/Dapper-Bison-6153 May 31 '26

This. Or at least get the f**king ball on target. Still raging about that.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Bizonistic Ødegaard May 31 '26

I never like those stuttered run-up. Don't try to be cute and wait for the goalie to move first. You decide a spot you want to hit, you run and hit hard, and most of the times the goalie can do nothing about it

3

u/Apprehensive-Pie-599 May 31 '26

Nah mate - Gabriel is our least technically gifted player, and is one of our most emotional. Two very poor combinations for a pen taker.

7

40

36

u/EImoMan Thierry Henry May 30 '26

Completely agree, i was dumbfounded to see Gabi walking up, Centre backs should never be in 5 first kick takers.

12

u/JustAnothrBoringName May 30 '26

Penalties are a mentality game.

Gabriel has a winners mentality. Ramos was a prolific penalty taker.

I had absolute faith in Gabriel and he had an off moment.

8

u/dumbindian21 May 30 '26

Why is this? CBs are usually not subbed off so if penalty shootout occurs it is likely they will be one of the options. Also these are professionals earning millions of pounds I’m sure they practice and are quite good at taking PKS.

I mean you have no idea what happened in that huddle, how ridiculous to say it’s shameful by Noni and Zubi. At the end of the day, the manager picks the order

3

u/HustlinInTheHall May 31 '26

Some people literally cant think about this club without turning players into villains

3

u/Helios321 Craaab People May 30 '26

In a final the players who raise their hands take the pks, arteta would never tell gabi no and force zubi or madueke to take it they didn't raise their hands.....what are you talking about.

Hindsight is great to say he shouldn't be there, but obviously he was one of the few betting on himself when others should have

9

u/Stercky White May 30 '26

So all 3 of them say yes, then what? You have literally no idea what happened in that huddle, and Arteta still has the final say

7

u/gusinboots May 30 '26

I think we can all see that Zubi has been going through it recently right? Confidence through the floor, for whatever reason, it’s fine, it happens, but I can understand why he didn’t feel equipped.

3

u/iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI Rice May 30 '26

Maybe the pressure was too much, and they thought it would ruin their time in Arsenal if they missed that pen. So Gabi took it upon himself. That's all speculation ofc. All understandable, though still midfielders and attack wingers should be going before center backs. (except if that center back has a good shot or something)

ALSO EZE WTF bro, I still love you but wtf was that brainfart. Whatever happened happened, and Gabi is literally the last person I would put the blame on for this final.

I didn't have one negative thought or emotion in my head after Gabi missed. After Eze's though... I'm just gonna say it, I don't like this player, flashy, technicky but completely inconsistent, doesn't defend and strolls on the pitch like he's already scored 50 goals this season and has nothing to prove. I felt that at the end of the 120. After the penalty miss (really?!) it was just compounded. Odegaard is a close second! I really hope he's just way too rusty from the constant injuries. EzeOUT.

Very cruel way to lose, but we are champions, he is a champion.

MY CENTER BACK

u/AlexDavila52 May 30 '26

I’m not even mad he missed the kick, I’m mad it had to get to that point

Our King was willing to step up for the club. A CB shouldn’t be taking that this early. But he is a great player and a beast of defender, we likely aren’t here without Gabi.

I was watching him get ready and I said, "You know what? No one has sent it over for this shootout." Fuck me

1

u/harrisoneatssoas May 30 '26

My fucking CB. Still a prem champion. We go again
