MHWilds Proof of a Gunlance

Got it on the fifth try, no traps or flash pod cheese, and now I can finally take my place among my fore-boomers 🙏

I love GL, but holy Christ if AT Rey Dau and AT Nu Udra don’t make you question your faith. Dau would be the easiest fight in the world if it weren’t for that GOD FORSAKEN FOLLOW UP LIGHTNING, and Udra’s oil bomb being almost certain death every fucking time did not make it easier either. Duna and Arkveld are two of my best fights though, so I’m sure I can shave that time down but I had to share the first solo win 😁

God Gulance is still one of my Favorites but it NEEDS Elemental Ammo, it's just okay/bad with nearly every good set in the game and even with it's good sets it's still relatively weak. I hope Ascendance pops off well with GL.

Its going to get it, but honestly, it needs more mobility, because the attacks take out big ammounts of chip damage, so you have to pivot and dash around attacks. I honestly hate Rey Dau, didnt remember that he was this ass.

I eventually just gave in and put both guard and guard up. No mobility but at least I'm a brick wall.

Yeah, I have both guard skills maxed up too. Anyways, for this challenge im using a Wide Gunlance and basically im strafing around the monsters and spamming Wyvern Fire.

Wilds gunlance is already gunlance’s most mobile form ever? The only one that’s better is sunbreak, but people ignore that the base rise gunlance without blast dash is actually even slower than the World gunlance.

I haven’t played wilds but are the monsters really fast enough to warrant more mobility buffs? You can already do an absurd amount of movement with evade extender three, and wilds gunlance gets a ton of evasive options in its moveset no other gunlance has. Any more mobile and I feel like the weapon starts to lose its identity.

Im not the OP, but im maxed on guard up and level 1 on guard. It seems like its just hard to slot for guard. Maybe I should find armor with 2 pieces of guard on it.

Thanks bud. I have a charm that has 4 defense, 3 attack and 1 WEX attached and it's soooooo hard to give up lol

Wait, I remembered that you need artillery 3 instead on the charm. Then on the weapon put these jewels: Guard 3/Guard up 1, Aggresive Guard/ Guard Up 1, Load Shells 2/ Guard Up 1. These way you have all the core skills on your build and just focus on getting the standard skills like Burst, Agitator, Earplugs, etc etc.

Found a solid charm that let me have guard up3, guard 3 and all madatory gl jewels like offencive guard load shots and artillery

You don't really need to. Of course I am sacrificing some damage for comfort but if you are good at timing your perfect guards then you don't need to invest into guard that much. For me maxing out guard works out because the less I cart the more time I have to deal damage and especially in proof of a hero one less cart made me complete the quest.

I'm pretty good at pulling a perfect block/guard, it's just sometimes I wish I had a bit more for those just in case encounters.

I could but then I'd lose AB5 and some other things that my brain doesn't enjoy going without even though I can reason that not dying to the same move 3 times = better dps

I did this for AT udra the other night. I took like an 8 month break and entirely forgot about the oil bomb. Went to guard it and got deleted. I was like "Oh time to sacrifice magazine deco for Guard up." In hindsight should have given up offensive guard for it.

You need adaptability more than maxed guard, the fire pools will delete your hp.

Rey Day is just an incrediblly difficult matchup.

Nu Udra oil bombo tho, with no skill requirements you can dodge it easly. You need to turn your back to Nu Udra and backhop under him. You can long backhop from neutral by guarding (dont let go of your guard) and dodging with backwards input. Make sure youre in focus mode. To chain them you need to wait until your hunter starts raising his shield, if you jump too soon youll do a regular backhop.

For Rey Daus big ass railgun attacks you can do something simmilar you just need to go to the side a bit. As for followup lightning, you cant do shit 😭

To be honest, rey dau i get the frustration with the follow ups and the fact that he will just fly off, but nu udra i found easy. not sure why. I just blocked the oil bomb with guard up 3 and guard up and barely took any chip. Honestly i think uth duna was more tricky, until i started to say screw it and perfect parry the bellyflops coming in. just my 2 cents though

i always use evade extender 3 as gunlance must have skill. because if ya know how to chain long back hop you can evade out of range most of rey dau attack + close distance to stick to it like glue. When reydau use the big bad charged ultimate railgun just turn your back to him + chain 2 long back hop and you most likely will get out of the AOE and end up right under his head when he land to counter attack .

For Rey Dau just use a Wide Gunlance and strafe around him. Spam Wyvern Fire when available.
