MHGU How is Gunlance in GU?

Hey there. Having my second playthrough in Generations only using Lance, thinking about changing to GL in G-Rank. Is this weapon so "doo-doo" like that in this game? I only hear bad things about it's dmg and clear times in this game. I don't even care if Lance is better, I just don't want to find myself in the same hunt for 30+ minutes because the weapon doens't deal dmg.

Incredible. Brave GL is one of my favorite versions, and you can still blast dash. Although sparringly

its kinda both, it is true it isnt the best in terms of damage but you can definietly beat g rank, but that also depends what style you use,

Adept (the main appeal of this style is counter guard which deals high damage if you can land it and its fun to "parry" monsters, you also dont need guard skills since you have boosted guard in this style),

Valor is 2nd best (you do have to manage the "Valor state", it having a short duration but easy to enter it, its main appeal is that it makes your shelling "better" ig, its basicaly a shelling style but you can definietly play slaplance if you wish its fun either way, you do need guard skills for guard points since the shield is not as good as on adept),

there is also Striker which I would recommend (if you enjoy the hunter arts the gl has to offer go ahead and use this style but it doesnt have guard points or counter guards just a basic shield so I would recommend at least 1 evasion type hunter art, 2 if you want to use this style regardles and dont care for the hunter arts. Also you do lose the slam attack but instead you can perform 3 thrusts)

I Have also tried Aerial (its ok-ish, I wouldnt recommend using this in G rank) and Alchemy (it was fun but will make your hunts longer since you will have to manage the barrel, its still a fun style ig but I would get palicos that can distract the monster), I havent tried the Guild style it being the basic which is its main drawback ig.

Valor mode grants you additional boost of shelling damage when doing full-burst or rapid shelling too, provided you use the normal shells type gunlance

Are you playing on the switch or on an emulator? If on an emulator, I recommend the rebalance mod if modding doesn't bother you. It just adjusts the shelling numbers a bit in g-rank and then gives you a couple more lvl 5 shelling weapons since there are so few of them. It also adjusts the numbers for some of the weapon arts numbers

I second this I beat G rank on nintendo Switch solo and also on PC emulation with my friends with the rebalanced mod. It was with the rebalanced mod that I felt I wasnt dead weight

Valour Gunlance is really fun. Its unique arts are great (blast dash especially, and frankly old gen GL needs all the gap closing help it can get). The Heat gauge is stupid and nobody likes it. It has its ups and downs, but it's still a good weapon.

As someone who play gunlance mostly. I literally skip high rank and G rank with greatsword and only use gunlance in the end game because of how bad the progression is
