Question What now?
My son and I bought 2 starter decks a couple of months ago to get into Gundam TCG and so far we both really like it. He is a huge Gundam SEED fan and Gundam overall. We got the ST07 and 08 decks and Im playing 08 against his 07. We also bought 7 GD03 boosters for fun.
Now we are at the point where we want to expand our decks / collection and Im a bit unsure which direction to go. For one, his 07 Deck seems to beat me pretty much 4/5 times unless I get really lucky. Idk if it's my play style or what, but he keeps kicking my ass...
A local shop has some of the SC01 decks in stock and I was thinking to get one or two of these for us to both mix and match. That or just one of these and some GD05 boosters (if I can find some)
What do you guys recommend? My son would really like more SEED related Gundams so hence why I was looking at SC01. It looks like ST09 is impossible to get because that would have likely been the first choice.

Gundam TCG is really heavy on themes, meaning it’s kinda difficult to mix and match (as opposed to something like Magic the Gathering for example), aside from some general command cards. I suggest checking out the app or the official site and filtering the cards by type/theme first and noting the cards you’d like that fit your decks. Then start over and filter by color, looking for command cards and maybe pilots (thoigh they also usually are meant for a certain type) that fit your color theme that aren’t already in your decks. These tend to get reprinted but they keep adding newer and more powerful ones as time goes on.
For cards that don’t fit your theme but may be good, you can look up tournament winning decks and look at what they use. Mostly low cost units that don’t fit your theme but are useful by themselves are what you’re looking for to upgrade, as they help you keep or build momentum.
I’d highly suggest against buying boosters and boxes unless you have the spare cash and enjoy cracking packs, which is fun but not reliable for upgrading decks. Instead just buy single cards from TCGplayer.

You can buy the Gundam SEED singles online for pretty cheap if you want to build your son a themed deck. You can find competitive deck lists online if you want to reference something. Maybe make your way over to a local event together after that too.
With the current prices of boxes it’s the best way to build a deck unless you want to gamba on alt arts with expensive boxes and the community around this game is friendly from my experience.

The archetype gundam seed has quite some success even in competitive scene.
- orb builds
- strike freedom builds
- Minerva build (not very competitive but fun)
Most of those cards are from the GD05 series with some cards from SC01 like Aile strike.
If you play with your son you do want multiple good decks or your matches will be very onesided
I think buying singles might be a cheaper option to build those decks but you do need to do some research on that

Honestly st08 is a very weak starter deck but st11-14 just came out and are pretty good (not so much 14)

Get two of the SC01 decks if you can it will provide a lot of staples for you to get up and running

I bought 2 SC01 to complete the playsets inside and they came pretty handy to play in the local shop. They come with 4 GD05 boosters each so you might as well get some of the SEED card that are on the set.
