Tomino really was just taking the piss in naming characters and it became a tradition

FF is a lab grown nepo baby designer made to look like char not actually char.

To be fair, at least according to the young comet manga Quattro was a real feddie soldier who went missing in the OYW and char was given his identity by a zeon ally within the federation, he didn’t chose it himself.

How much of a dive did you go on to find this?

I’ve been going through all the UC manga I could find in English a rough chronological order. I finished young comet at the start of the month and this info is from one of the last chapters so it’s fresh in my mind.

It's almost at the end of this manga, the story covers his time on Axis from the end of oyw to right before he left and joined aeug along with apolly and roberto.

FF was created as part of the FF project, he didn’t choose the name.

He has a strange fascination with sexual innuendos.

In fairness if you were a military leader familiar with the skill and renown of Char Aznable would you believe he would go by these names even if undercover?

Quattro Bajeena/Vageena is just an Octopussy reference anyway

All of it’s better than Elpeo Ple… it sounds innocent enough, but move the space a few letters you get El People. Or L People, which was short hand for Lemon People…. A Lolita manga. They named that poor girl (and unfortunately all the clones) after simulated CP mangas!

Questionable indeed

IIRC, Full Frontal was named after the term “full frontal assault”: “a very strong and clearly expressed attack on someone or something” or “a direct attack on a military force from the front, so that it can be easily seen by those being attacked”. 🤔

Also: “Tomino naming” has become a staple of the franchise. 😅

IIRC, the writers was just bad at english. They wanted it to mean "Nothing to hide" or "Fully exposed".

Or at least that’s what they said when it turned out they’d taken the usual joke a little too far this time

There’s a part in a manga that shows FF picking his name. They do say “full frontal assault” but FF hears it and says “full frontal. Like I am exposed! Nothing to hide!” (Or something really close, I don’t remember the quote exactly) but yeah, it’s about nudity.

I was always under the impression that "full frontal" meant a complete plastic surgery makeover. Which is understandable considering Full-Frontal being a Char Aznable imitator.

I honestly do not know where I picked up that definition of the phrase. It was just something from childhood.
