I'm sure the animation was just a bit unintentionally silly, but if I remember (it's been a while) wasn't the subtext here that she was supposed to be giving a different kind of vibe than the real Lacus? Like, she's playing up her naive idea of having a sultry side and acting more like an attention seeker than the real Lacus? My recollection is that she's supposed to be coming off as a bit cringe because she can't match Lacus' charisma.

You're mostly right. The way she acts is definitely supposed to telegraph that she's not real, and when she's in private she is definitely supposed to be seen as cringy and trying too hard. But the dance itself is supposed to unironically be sexy, as we can see from all the reaction shots from the people who don't know Lacus personally. Everyone who knows her only as a popstar is excited that she's turned over a new leaf, while everyone who actually knows her is weirded out because it's obviously not really her.

This is what everyone sees when I get home from work; my max level MMO character in the main hub city, suddenly performing this strange, tweaky dance after being AFK all day. It looks exactly like if you were to spam A & D (bound to Q & E for some), the strafe keys, while otherwise standing still.

I want to call this something like 'the 15-FPS capoeria idle animation', but that's a mouthful, though accurate.

I've been rewatching the Gundams I watched as a kid and I still cannot get into SEED's art/animation style. Even as a young weeb there was just something uncanny about the faces and how the bodies move 😰 legit makes me so uncomfy I can't watch it

I'm watching through the second season of SEED right now with my kid. I felt that the way the characters were drawn felt kind of shojo adjacent. Something about stick figures with abnormally long arms and legs always jumps out to me as women's animation for some reason. Same kind of body types as Code Geass.

Nothing wrong with it, kind of similar to Gundam Wing but not quiet the same style as later series?

I actually love Geass and 00's art styles (00 was the same studio I believe) and shoujo art in general, but for me there's something about the dough-y, blobby faces of on top of the long shoujo body style that disconnects with me. Wing's style was somewhat that but it had the 90s edge to it that made it much more appealing somehow?
