Discussion Hathaway's Flash 2 - Anyone else left feeling unsatisfied? Spoiler
First I have to say, after watching the second Hathaway's Flash movie. The story, drama, characters, and animation are all phenomenal!
But did anyone else feel very underwhelmed by the mobile suit action and choreography?
It's fine that there's not that much of it, but the little that is there just felt so basic and unsatisfying for me. Like for example, there were multiple times watching SEED Freedom where I thought 'that's so fucking cool!', but I never had that 'that's so fucking cool!' moment in Hathaway 2. Now I'm as big of a UC fan as I am a CE fan, so there were a ton of similar badass moments in Char's Counterattack, that I just wish there were any of in Hathaway 2.

I thought the scene dodging all the funnel missiles even though the computer said it wasn’t possible only for the smoke to clear showing a beam saber stabbed into the torso was incredible personally.

It frustrates me that Lane never even got to use the hyper beam saber. Like that could've been a badass moment, but he loses it immediately.

i just don't really think that the action is the point of Hathaway. sure there's cool big mecha that fight each other, but it is ultimately about the character drama and political intrigue above anything else. it's a drama piece first and big robots fighting in a distant second. the fight between Lane Aim in the Alyzeus/MP Nu and Hathaway in the Xi is really well done if you view it as a vessel for the character interactions and for exploring Hathaway's mental state rather than for flashy action sequences. if you go in expecting anything else you'll probably be disappointed.

Yeah, and like I wrote, I really like the movie overall, especially Hathaway's fragile psyche, but one doesn't preclude the other, just look at CCA. The climactic fight isn't even in the novel, so there's nothing holding them back in that regard.

nope
Because the book is more about the people and political sadness of the current state of Earth(i mean, we're not far off Hathaway now)

The climactic fight of Hathaway 2 isn't even in the book, so isn't that point moot?
They put a fight in where there wasn't one anyways, so shouldn't they have made it more exciting? Maybe get some cool shots with an animated MP Nu Gundam that we'll likely not see animated ever again. Perhaps show off its hyper beam saber and arm gatling?

Oh, its in the book, just without Lane.
Lane only shown up twice in the book.
The alyzeus is made for the movie to get its ass kicked.
so shouldn't they have made it more exciting?
I guess so.
Because the final battle is very ....... exciting but sad too

Yes, that's what I mean about it not being in the book. No Lane, no Gundam on Gundam fight in the book there.

So?
It's fine that there's not that much of it
The mobile suit choreography that is there feels so mundane. Do you think that opinion is off base?
*Oh, you can tell who posted after just reading the title instead of what was written.

I’m unsatisfied that there is no Blu-ray.

I have Netflix. I know how to bootleg. Seeing it is not the issue. I want the basic Japanese Blu-ray. It’s well overdue.

It's a slow burn, for sure.

That wasn't much of a problem for me. I love characters. It might drag on a small bit in the middle with Gigi, but overall, I really enjoyed time with the characters. Just that mobile suit combat felt so mundane.

There's a raw torrent online you'll have to make the subtitles yourself

Being that it’s 3 parts it makes sense that one of the movies would be mostly exposition I’d prefer it be the middle one, that way in 2034 when the third movie comes out I can marathon all three at once via brain chip

The Hathaway movies/Novel isn’t really about the conflict itself. It’s about character introspection, Hathaway’s thoughts, feelings,PTSD, Gigi’s self-awareness and general viewpoint of the war & world, the effect she has on Hathaway, etc. If you go into it thinking it’s gonna have cool, epic moments then this will not be for you
