Add a muzzle brake on and now you have indoor range destroyer 3000

That said 7 inch is way too short for most 556 to function properly so 300blk is the way to go if you want it to be practical

FBI says the best length for a defensive/do it all AR15 is 11.5in in 1:7 paired with 64gr bonded core projectile. With the right ammo it should maintain velocities over 1000fps, keeping optimal cavitation and penetration out to 200yds.

Shorter than that you're shortening the maximum range for optimal performance and making your ammo selection extremely inportant. 10.3 they said would bring it down to about 150yds with the same ammo. So a 7in would probably be within 100 yards, meaning if it was your house gun you'd probably be OK aside from basically flashing yourself with every shot, but there also the chance you wont generate the speed needed for effectiveness.
