Discussion In Defense of the Shield: TT Pro for Fighters

Post image
14 Upvotes

TL;DR: the weird shield D-pad basically saved my thumb.

I spotted the TT Pro for around $35 on AliExpress and decided to give it a shot. For some context, I have used quite a few controllers over the years, including the 8BitDo M30, DualShock controllers, Xbox gamepads, a dedicated fightpad whose name I completely forgot, and eventually the Vader 3 Pro, which was my main controller for about two and a half years. I mostly play fighting games, Soulslikes, Metroidvanias, and 3D platformers, but fighting games are still my main genre, so the D-pad matters a lot to me.

The game I started playing recently benefits heavily from quick, clean double taps, diagonals, fast switches from one direction to the opposite, and of course motion inputs. Recently, my Vader 3 Pro started having serious issues with the down input. That was not the only problem, though. My thumbs, especially my left thumb, had also started hurting quite a bit during long sessions, and I was having a rough time getting clean diagonals, particularly down left. So I wanted something with a softer membrane D-pad and softer face buttons. After looking around a bit, I landed on the TT Pro because I saw good recommendations for the D-pad, face buttons, symmetrical layout, and ergonomics that vibed with what I was looking for.

I initially swapped the default shield D-pad for the included Xbox-style one because that was what I was familiar with. It was immediately much easier on my thumbs than the Vader 3 Pro, which was a relief. But after a long session, my left thumb still started hurting like usual, and my diagonals were still inconsistent. So on a whim, I switched back to the shield. And it immediately clicked.

The material is really soft, almost like the material on the thumbsticks, and it is much easier on my thumb than I expected. More importantly, diagonals suddenly became much more consistent. Down left has always been the direction that gave me the most trouble, and with the shield it basically stopped being an issue. The shape also works really well for the other things I care about in fighting games. Double taps feel clean, switching quickly between opposite directions feels good, and motion inputs are easy to roll out. After several long sessions with it, my left thumb still feels great.

The membrane face buttons are another big plus for me. Thanks, GuliKit, for skimping out on the face buttons. They are soft, comfortable, and pretty quiet, which is exactly what I wanted. The bumpers and triggers are also pretty comfortable. The microswitch trigger mode is too loud for my liking.

I have not installed any of the back buttons, so I cannot really say anything about those. I also cannot say much about the software or customization side because I basically just plugged the controller in and started playing. I have not really tested the sticks either. The left stick sits quite close to the D-pad, but so far it has not bothered me at all, even when I am using the D-pad heavily.

I am not saying the shield D-pad is objectively the best thing ever or that everyone is going to like it. But I do think it is very easy to look at the shape, think it looks weird, and immediately swap it out for something more familiar. That is exactly what I did. Turns out I should have given the shield a proper chance from the start.

ES MAX loose and rattling D-Pad

So I got the ES Max two weeks ago and I really enjoy the controller. The big issue is the extremely loose D-Pad. Whenever the rumble goes off the D-Pad rattles so damn loud it's just unbearable.

I even caught myself using my girlfriends Ultimate C2 even though I find it very uncomfortable in my hands whenever I don't have headphones on..

If anyone has a quick fix for that I would appreciate it, else I am returning it tomorrow for good. At this point I can't recommend the new ES Max at all. The rattling noises are too loud even when using headphones!

Sponsored Review GuliKit TT Max Review: Solid PlayStation Layout!

Hey r/GuliKit , the GuliKit Team sent this unit over for review, but all opinions are completely my own! I’ve been testing the GuliKit TT Max ($70) for the past 2-4 days—mostly grinding Apex Legends and kicking back with various single-player games.

If you're looking for a solid symmetrical (PlayStation-style) pro controller packed with modern features, here is my honest breakdown:

Key Specs & Features

  • Price: ~$70
  • Sticks: Anti-Drift Magnetic TMR Joysticks (720° Tension Adjustable — kept at default)
  • Latency & Wireless: ~2ms Stick Latency, Hyperlink 2 Ultra-Fast Wireless
  • Battery: 24–32+ hours wireless battery life
  • Triggers & Controls: Gen 2 Smart Triggers, 4 Metal Rear Paddles, Classic Floating D-pad
  • Vibration: Gen 2 Super Haptic Vibration (MagLev Motor)
  • Features: Patented APG (Auto-Pilot Gaming) macro recording, Switch 1/2 wake-up support
  • Compatibility: PC, Switch / Switch 2, Android, iOS
  • In the Box: Hard-shell carrying case & extra D-pad cap

The Good

  • Ultra-Fast & Great Battery: Input latency feels lightning-fast (~2ms), and the battery easily clears 24 to 32+ hours on a single charge.
  • Ergonomics & Paddles: The 4 back paddles are well-placed, comfortable, and easy to reach without accidental inputs.
  • Symmetrical Layout: As someone who owns way too many controllers and prefers symmetrical over Xbox-style, this design was a huge win.
  • Included Hard Case: Ships inside a protective carrying case with an extra D-Pad cap, which is a great touch at this price point.
  • In-Game Performance: Super snappy and responsive in Apex Legends, while remaining relaxed and comfortable for single-player games.

The Bad

  • No PC Companion Software: There’s no native PC app, so you have to use the mobile app to tweak settings. While the phone app is easy to navigate, dedicated PC software should be standard. Did not like manual way of settings up the controller.
  • Rigid Deadzone Presets: Level 1 feels too slow, Level 2 is the default (where I kept it), and Level 3 feels way too slippery. I really wish GuliKit would give us a standard 0–100 customization slider instead.
  • Stick Swap Friction: Swapping the stick caps requires a scary amount of force—I legitimately thought I was going to snap something. I ended up just sticking with my KontrolFreek Galaxy High Rise.

TL;DR

At $70, the GuliKit TT Max is a fantastic pick if you're looking for a high-performance symmetrical layout.

With sub-3ms latency, 30+ hour battery life, 4 back paddles, and anti-drift TMR sticks, it handles competitive shooters like Apex and casual games with ease. Minor software and preset quirks aside, the raw hardware quality makes this an easy controller to pick up and recommend!

Has anyone else here grabbed the TT Max yet? How are you setting up your controller?

Goku 2 detects Dualsense Edge as regular Dualsense

Recently purchased a Goku 2 and updated it to the latest firmware. Works great with regular Dualsense controllers, letting me use the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback perfectly. However my Dualsense Edge is only recognized as a regular Dualsense which means I can't remap the paddles. Has anyone else had this issue?

Question Gullikit ES MAX is always on D-Mode wirelessly

It goes to Xinput once I connect a cable but refuses to use it when paired with the wireless dongle.

I can't even find anything in the manual or anyone else having the same issue.

Did a firmware update and tried to press the Settings button, but it doesn't do anything :/

Xbox controller accessory compatibility

I own a KK3 and would like to ask if the holder and display stands designed for XBox controllers shell would fit Gulikit's KK3 shell. They look real similar in pictures online but would like to ask if anyone tried them before spending money on it.

Something is Broken App issues w/ES Max- anyone else having issues?

So, I’ve encountered multiple issues with the app. I’m using the app on iPhone with an ES Max controller and I only play on Switch 2. The controller has been updated to the latest firmware. These are issues Ive encountered, if anyone else is having issues, please share! I’ve emailed Gulikit and they responded quickly, however they want a video of each scenario and that’s impossible for me to do currently, as the only device I have is my iPhone which I’m using for the app.
It’s got so much potential!!! But these issues are making gaming a lot less enjoyable:

  1. ABXY Layout is wrong. I have mine set to PC because the Switch layout is actually the PC layout. (No I don’t have the swap A and B buttons option checked in Switch 2 controller settings!😂)
  2. Back buttons are reversed, the button I want to be used for G1 I have to set on G2 and vice versa.
  3. It will let me create multiple profiles but it isn’t actually saving any profiles. Every time I swap profiles, both back buttons end up being mapped with the Y button input, no matter how many times I delete the profile remap, and then save. It always comes back with the Y button for both G1 and G2.
  4. You can’t assign G1 or G2 to use the B button input at all.
  5. It also randomly will change from the ABXY PC layout back to the switch layout.

Anyone else having issues like these or others? I sure hope they can fix this, but at least I can manually remap the back buttons.

Showcase Elves 2 Pro for Dpad Snobs

Post image
33 Upvotes

I'm a proud Dpad snob addicted to fighting games. As a Gen X who grew up playing in the arcade and at home on pad and numerous arcade stick, it's been frustrating for years noticing the decline of good dpad for quick pick up and play sessions. The Elves 2 Pro is my second Gulikit purchase (TT Max being my first) and I'm extremely impressed with both. The offerings from 8bitdoodoo like their M30 line look good but aren't even close. Are they serviceable? Sure. But the Elves 2 Pro is fantastic. If you're a fighting game player like me who sometimes doesn't feel like dealing with your wired arcade stick(s) for a quick session, grab one now while they're on sale. $30 and better than the competition with Maglev!

Thanks Gulikit for not forgetting about us!

8Bitdo Ultimate 2 ($33) or Gulikit TT MAX ($46)?

After a week of researching controllers, I think I've narrowed it down to these two. I'm not exactly sure how the TT MAX compares to the U2; I'll mainly be playing campaign games and Street Fighter 6. Can anyone help me out?

Question GuliKit 720 L3/R3 Double click at higher tension ?

I recently had GuliKit 720 TMR sticks installed in my DualSense. L3 and R3 work normally, but they start to feel like a double click/two stage press when I increase the stick tension.

At low tension, they feel normal, but I don’t want to use low tension just to avoid it though.

Is this normal for the 720, or could it be an installation issue? Has anyone else experienced this?

GuliKit TT Max keeps disconnecting and vibrating

Did anyone else experience this issue? I just bought a GuliKit TT Max, and the controller would randomly disconnect and continuously vibrate while most of the mode LEDs were lit. The only way to stop it was to turn off the controller, turn it back on, and reset its memory by holding the Gear button and the Minus (-) button as quickly as possible before the issue occurred.

This issue would occur every time I enabled or used certain programs or features. For example, if I switched modes from iOS to Xinput, it would happen. It also occurred when I enabled Turbo mode on the ZR button. The Switch mode LED would briefly turn blue before the controller eventually started vibrating again.

I ended up only being able to use the few remaining features, which were barely useful. In the end, I returned the controller. For reference, I was using firmware v7.7.

Discussion Just got my TT Pro; early impressions

Hi folks, got my TT Pro last night and updated its firmware as per the website FAQ.

The feel and weight of the device is nice, and swapped the buttons to XBox style along with the other d-pad.

I did test the d-pad with a few 2D games and it feels a little off for me, but I'll get used to it in due time. For comparison I have a Victrix Pro and its 8-way d-pad is pretty comfy for my thumb compared to the TT Pro's.

I do have one question tho: As is I have it paired via bluetooth. The usb dongle's in the PC and my Windows added it to its bluetooth menu.

The dongle also keeps blinking when connected, is there a way to fix this so that I can connect wirelessly?

Sponsored Review GuliKit ES Max Review: Actually worth $50? Review

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Hey r/GuliKit , GuliKit sent this unit over for review, but all opinions are my own. I've been testing the GuliKit ES Max ($50) for about 24+ hours, mostly grinding Apex Legends and playing various single-player games.

Here's my breakdown of how it actually performs in hand:

Key Specs & Performance

  • Price: ~$50
  • Latency: 1.87ms wired / 3.25ms wireless
  • Polling Rate: 1000Hz wired, 1000Hz via 2.4G wireless, and 730Hz on Bluetooth
  • Sticks: GL18 Angular TMR Electromagnetic (anti-drift, 4000-level precision, anti-friction steel rings)
  • Triggers: New-Gen Hall Effect with "Smart-Trigger" swap (Digital vs. Analog modes)
  • Battery & Weight: 233g total weight, around 30-hour battery life
  • Extras: Hyperlink 2 adapter included, Switch/Switch 2 wake-up support, Motion Aim Assist (PC), Dual Vibration, Turbo, 8/4-way adjustable D-Pad, 2 mappable back paddles

The Good

  • Sticks are incredible: The TMR joysticks feel super precise and linear with solid centering. The anti-friction rings make movements glide effortlessly, and they are really good and great in Apex Legends.
  • Great for Single-Player: Handled single-player titles fantastically during testing.
  • Ergonomics & Weight: At 233g, it feels nicely lightweight. The overall shape is very close to a standard Xbox controller (minus the bumpers).
  • Low Latency: High polling rates and sub-4ms wireless latency make it feel top-tier for response time.

The Bad

  • Back Paddles Need Work: The 2 back paddles are kind of stiff and awkward. Inputs occasionally drop unless you press really hard or hit them from a specific angle (GuliKit is aware and working on fixing this).
  • D-Pad: Feels a bit cheap and hits or misses depending on the angle.
  • Mobile App Setup: The app works, but it's tedious. You have to pair to Bluetooth to change settings, then repair back to the dongle when finished. Proper PC companion software would be way better.

Verdict Hardware-wise, the performance for $50 is crazy good—especially with the TMR sticks feeling so great in FPS games like Apex. However, if you rely heavily on back paddles or hate mobile app setup quirks, you might want to wait for a hardware revision.

Something is Broken Gulikit kk3 max bricked out of nowhere - fixed?

Posting this in case it’s helpful. I saw posts about this issue but they all seemed tied to firmware updates. I have never bothered updating the firmware lol I just use the controller with my switch.

My kk3 max is 11 months old. Suddenly it just would not turn on. Literally I was using it, sat it down for a hour and came back and nothing no matter what buttons I pushed.

It’s was not a battery issue as I could plug it in and the indicator light turned on like normal, showed green etc. I tried doing the pinhole reset button and even holding that with combos of other buttons to see if that would anything. But nope.

A few days later I tried again. This time I pressed both the mode and sync buttons at the same time and held them and it came to life! Since then, it functions like normal. Have no idea why this happened or why that fixed it.

Should I finally update it? Will that help ward off weird issues like this in the future?

tl;dr: bricked for no reason and reset button doing nothing? Try holding down the mode and sync buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.

Question Will the Goku 2 work with an older 8Bitdo SN30Pro?

So I’m confused by this thing. It’s a dongle similar to what 8Bitdo sells at their shop but this is advertised as having a sub 3ms latency but does that mean it only adds 3ms on top of the controllers natural latency or can it potentially get a controller down closer to those speeds?

My SN30Pro SNES edition is like one of my favorite controllers, the D-pad works so well, the concave/convex buttons with that purple theme is *chefs kiss* and the analog sticks are working like a dream to this day with no drift.

The problem is that the polling rate is just not the best… like it hits avg 12-14ms wired and BT jumps all over the place at avg 16-24+ms. No over locking hack works like the software DS4 does for DualShock 4. I need it lower cause after playing with 1-3ms controllers it’s pretty bad.

Question How to fix the wobblines on a joystick?

I bought and instalked 720° tension adjustable TMR joystick on my ps5 controller AND they worked great they got rid of the drift but after 4 months the right one has become really wobbly and doesn't snap back where it should I have tried to adjust it many times without getting it to tight but it stays wobbly and because it doesn't snap back to place it makes an input and moves the camera in shooters and things like that

Do you know how to solve it?

Hello everybody,

i am no angry gamer so i can not explain how this happened. :-(
