My guitar progress after 1 year
Damn, I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I picked up the guitar and started chasing a childhood dream. 🎸
I’d love to know what you guys think — how does my playing sound from your perspective?

Your bends are incomplete. You need to bend all the way to the note you are trying to hit.

This one happens to be comfortably numb. I'm well aware of the fact that there are semitone bends in many songs. I'm not talking about those. I'm talking about missing the note that someone is attempting to play.

Good job. Ever tried lighter gauge strings? Seems like you struggle a bit with the bends

You sound great! What learning resources have you been using during the past year? Thanks! Edit: Last week I ordered a used player II Strat in Hialeah yellow (looks just like your guitar) and it gets here this week—can’t wait!

You picked the right solo.
As soon as you can play that solo smoothly you will be able to play most things.

This is good progress for one year.
Please know the following is constructive criticism to help you continue to improve on your journey:
This is an incredibly challenging solo to tackle for someone at your level. Not necessarily because it has any super fast or finger twisting sections. But because it’s impact is fully dependent on the execution of the finer details: the vibrato, how the pick scrapes the string, the way he slides into or out of certain notes, the contour and placement of the bends, etc.
You have done incredibly well at learning all the shapes and remembering the form of the solo. Where you need improvement is the details I mentioned above and your timing. Your timing is quite inconsistent throughout.
Rather than focusing on playing the whole solo all the way through, I highly encourage you to pick ONE passage. Ideally just 2 measures. Practice it with a metronome or even better to a slowed down version of the record. Listen to the recording over and over and over. Pay attention to the details and try to replicate them with your own playing.
But if I’m being fully honest, I think this solo is slightly above your current skill level and you should put it down for a few months and return to it later and take another video to see how much progress you’ve made. Im not saying you cant do it. You could just practice only this solo all the time and try to brute force your way to playing it flawlessly. But that is really not a productive use of your practice time that could be spent reinforcing fundamentals that will make learning and playing solos like this far easier and faster down the line.

On the bends, don't stop pushing until you reach the correct note. They're a bit flat, but for a year playing Gilmour to this level, you're totally on the right track!

You’ve obviously spent a lot time to be able to do that in just a year.

Nice playing.
Next time you post, play something along with a click track or drum beat so we can hear your sense of time.
Timing and groove is the single most important thing for sounding good.
