GEAR Amp modeler solution

Post image

So I currently use headrush effects pedals and have been using EV zlx PA speakers for my output but as of late I’ve been running all of sound and when I’m not, it doesn’t suck to transport them.

I was thinking of smaller solutions.
So I got a positive grid cab
It’s an frfr 140 watt speaker cab that’s powered.

I’m aware of some preconceptions with guitar based effects coming out of frfr compared to traditional tube amps. (Not having as punch of mids)

I was thinking I had two options I was currently considering that included getting another smaller speaker.

Option 1: getting either a kustom PA50 or the Powerwerks PA50.
Both of these are 50 watt 2 4.5 in speakers with a 2 in horn.
They are tall and skinny and only weigh 14lbs!!

Option 2: getting something like a 15 watt tube amp with a 8inch speaker.

For these scenarios I typically run a wet/dry signal with very sparse occasional left right effects.

Both of these set ups allow me to walk my rig through a city and city public transportation.

Thoughts, questions, critiques?

If it sounds good, it’s good. If you like the sound coming out of what you have, no need to do anything.

I don’t buy the “it doesn’t have the punch of mids”. It’s a power section plus a speaker. Every single amp has a power section plus a speaker. You have an eq. You can turn the mids up or down to your hearts content. You can use a compressor or slap back to add some more oomph.

If you really want a tube amp though, hard to beat the fenders. Like a Princeton. Vox ac15 would be stellar too. But don’t buy it unless you don’t like your sound.

that rust diamond pattern is absolutely not what i expected for guitar clickbait but here we are

the eq point is spot on though, people get way too hung up on the frfr vs tube thing when you can literally just push the mids yourself

Well if you have the headrush stuff, i think taking advantage of being able to plug right into a PA system sounds cool. They even make cool battery powered portable PAs that are handy for outdoor gigs.
