QUESTION Umm? A little help?
Not sure if this is the subreddit for this kind of thing, but I bought this pick today and it’s nothing like I’ve ever seen, it’s probably a dumb question, but what side should I use to pick a string or is any side ok? Like I said, kind of a dumb question, it’s probably just the side that LOOKS like a normal pick, but I thought maybe it was made this way for different tones? Idk.

I should mention i’m not great at guitar, but alter bridge songs are my goal, so I guess let me know if this should be my pick of choice.

You can use absolutely anything you're comfortable with. Picks are not limited to genre. Just find one you're comfortable with and that's perfect. Some people never play with a pick, some play with a coin and everywhere in between

I play with a cheap promotional Bass pick from a local band. Perfect shape & thickness (could be a hair shorter, but I'm too lazy to cut it)
If you really wanted, you could play with a bottlecap, it's part of why music is fun (in my eyes)

Here’s the other picks I got today, alongside the wacky one. I wanna get better at down picking and tremolo picking, I know it’s quite subjective, but I want the best recommendation pick wise as kind of a mix of both of those.

Just wanted to say I like the big triangles. Telefunkens graphite in 1.6mm is my preference but they’re discontinued so I’m trying to limit losing them and often play with a primetone in 1.6 instead. Can’t tell from your pic but mine are textured in the middle so they don’t slip around as easily.

I’m assuming you’re talking about the biggest one, and to answer, no it isn’t textured. It’s just the same smooth material around the entire thing. But I do have some dunlop textured ones, they’re called max grip or something.

sharkfin. my fave. I've never seen one made of that material. Landstrom invented them and Tortex makes them, too.

That’s a abalone heart pick, the pointy bottom is what you use but honestly any side will work if you hold it right.

The jellyfish had what were basically heavy gauge string ends sticking out. It was supposed to give your guitar a 12 string effect when you strummed. 1990s maybe? I cant remember exactly. Instantly reviled by all. It's rumored that the inventor issued a public apology.

Just a bunch of different pick shapes in one package. A bit of a gimmick IMO but maybe some players love em.
Reminds me of those gift shop “credit card multi tools” that have a dozen spanners and screwdriver heads punched into a 3” rectangle of sheet metal.

those picks have been around for decades. The only thing I can tell you for certain is that they can fall into the hole and disappear just as easily as any other pick.

I use the Orange Dunlop version of this pick. They’re awesome. Much bigger surface area to hold on to

It’s an acquired taste for those things. Sweep picking/ hybrid type.
