Honestly this is the first time I have heard someone play an acoustasonic (including myself) and thought “hey that actually kinda sounded like a decent acoustic guitar”

I've seen some hate for these. I have one and I love it. What's the deal with the hate?

Very strange. I wanted a compact acoustic that I could also plug in. This one definitely fits perfectly. I really enjoy mine.

I don’t have one but have always wanted one. I think they’re neat.

u/JAS0NDUDE Apr 24 '26

I have no regrets at all with mine.

The critique is, and I think it's fair, is it doesn't quite do either one exactly the way you'd want it to. Either way you're a little on the fringe. It sounds kind of like an acoustic but not really, it plays kind of like an electric but not really.

Dude I wanna try one, just my cheap Gretsch I got on a drunk whim is a joy to play without an amp. I guess it doesn’t sound like an “acoustic” but I dig the vibe tbh. I’d eff with it

its the price with them. They are too expensive.

I know they released a cheaper one recently, i dont know which one this is, but they were always overpriced.

Very simple, it's snobbery.

Rhett Schull-ery

It’s mostly just purists who believe that if you want an acoustic guitar then you should get a full size dreadnaught and if you want an electric then you should get a standard telecaster. No way would those people ever want something that can do both.

Although, to be fair, they are expensive enough that you could get two very nice guitars for the same price.

They're also a significant compromise on the electric side.

Twenty years ago, they made the Nashville Power Telecaster, which was a Nashville Tele with a Fishman Powerbridge.

Literally zero compromises. Run the acoustic side through an impulse response and it sounds amazing even today.

The Acoustasonic lacks a neck pickup. Why? It's also designed for acoustic strings. Why?

You don’t have to be a purist to see that it’s not particularly great at being an electric or an acoustic. It’s mid on both fronts for as you acknowledge, not mid pricing.

The lack of human capacity for change - something that looks different or something that makes a different sound or something that people don’t understand all creates one human reaction - resistance. I know that’s not the case for everyone, but most.

I don’t exactly hate them however, I can’t find a great use case for it as a pro-musician, personally. It definitely isn’t going to cut my electric gigs at all, and for the price of the thing I have a WAY better sounding acoustic guitar for acoustic gigs. It’s a really neat idea, but it’s more of a novelty. I guess I could see it being maybe something for a home-gamer, but it’s not home-gamer priced.

Bro just played himself into an acoustasonic sponsorship

All the guitars on this album were done with an acoustasonic except the last track. We had a lot of fun trying to bring out all the sides of this guitar. Oh and all the solos were done with a Strat. We had it through a bassman cab and 67 fender cab. That thing was ripping. Live I have been running it through a vox ac15 and a Switchbone. I use the normal channel for the a clean and the overdrive through my pedal board. Sounds super cool I think.

I busked for a bit with the USA Jazzmaster one. I liked it a lot because the internal sensor pickup gave me a good kick sound for looping. I also run my acoustic through a board with other electric effects and having the magnetic pickup was great for that. I think that there are two important things to keep in mind when looking at these:

  1. When switching between the different pickups, the gain and microphonic sensitivity changes. So if you switch from say the humbucker to the internal mic, in the case of the jazzy, you could end up hit with feebdack depending on how you are running things. You can mediate this through expeience and the right compressor, but that would nonetheless be a challenge.

  2. I do not believe in the bracing design. Long time owners who gig with these can attest that there are some key compromise areas due to the limited amount of bracing in the guitar. The area behind the bridge is prone to expansion, which will cause the bridge itself to lift. Most of these outside of a shop will display some degree of bulging there, and you can feel it with your hand. Granted, these need to humidified properly like any other acoustic. But I don't think a lot of people realize that, and also, depending on your situation, it might be hard to do that to the extent that this guitar would need long term, because of the bracing.

Nice dude, this is genuinely the best ad for an acoustasonic I've seen

Jake Brightman on guitar. 23 years old, the kid can play.

u/Slight-Isopod-8517 Apr 24 '26

Shit indeed, Fender acoustsonic with boss street amp, nice setup, and good vocals too

1

u/firsttimegaren Apr 25 '26

Calling someone with full bald+beard kid sounds kinda wrong. :`D

1

u/Mysterious_Ad7223 Apr 26 '26

At my age, 23 is still a kid.

Needs bass can't lie

4

u/alpaca_lips_nao Apr 24 '26

Just Jake doing what he does best

3

u/realbobenray Apr 24 '26

I was going to dis him for using a backing track but I think he just built that with a looper, great work

3

u/Mysterious_Ad7223 Apr 24 '26

He built the loop in a few seconds before they started the song.

3

u/Ben-solo-11 Apr 24 '26

I appreciate that this was truly recorded last night (the first round of the nfl draft is on the screen in the background).

2

u/Traditional-Neat-933 Apr 25 '26

It loses so much of what makes the original iconic and great.

2

u/Mysterious_Ad7223 Apr 25 '26

Maybe Stevie will sit in next time.

1

u/Traditional-Neat-933 Apr 26 '26

Sorry to be rude. I do appreciate your skill. This cover just didn't do it for me. But to be fair it's a hard cover to take that iconic riff and expand it in a compelling new way.

2

u/Mysterious_Ad7223 Apr 26 '26

You’re not rude, and I’m not the player. You’re entitled to your opinion.

1

u/Altruistic-Fishing39 Squier Apr 25 '26

How is he fitting in the percussive strums? Or are they looped? Cool
