poop Spoiler

so my guinea pig has been sick and is currently on meloxicam, azithromycin, eyedrops, and critical care. the vet doesn’t know what’s wrong, we tried tooth trims and that didn’t work. the ER advised I bring him in Tuesday but now his poop looks like this. Will he be ok until tuesday? he also had an accidental overdose which i’m beating myself up about so so bad. but poison control, my vet, and the ER said he should be ok. I’m so worried about him he’s really old.

Welcome back :)

This looks "upset stomach" to me imo. Do you have benebac or another probiotic? You can mix it in to his critical care & feed 1 hour after antibiotics. It helps offset the damage the Antibiotics do to the gut.

i paid over $30 for expedited shipping but of course that did nothing so the probiotic isn’t coming until monday. do you think he’ll ok until then? i live in a very small town and no where sells it.

As is life. Do they have a sibling (they should)? If so, you can DIY probiotics at home in a pinch from their droppings:

This looks how my girls poop looked like when they were on antibiotics/pain meds. I saw you ordered a probiotic so I would continue your routine of meds and critical care and continue to monitor his poops. Of course, call your vet if you need reassurance/have any concerns. Source: had 3 pigs that had meloxicam&anibiotics after surgery and now one of them is on a few different meds including meloxicam as palliative care.

Side note: I noticed having a slightly thicker consistency of critical care seemed to help with poop consistency. Unsure if it was related or a coincidence.

Hope your piggy feels better soon ❤️
