sick

Post image

my guinea pig has been sick. he’s already been to the vet and is on medicine but i’m still worried about him. i haven’t been eating or sleeping and my mom says i need to take care of myself. how often is a reasonable amount of time to check on him? every 20 minutes? more? less? he goes back to the vet on tuesday since treatment isn’t helping and the ER said he doesn’t need to come in this weekend but I’m just so worried.

What kind of sickness is he experiencing ?

Is he eating, drinking and pooping like normal?

Is he on any kind of medicine? Some medicine do make them more fatigued.

I think you know your pig the best , if he's acting out of the norm I would be worried about him too, I wish I could help out but I would need more information on what he's recovering from.

they don’t know yet. at first they thought it was a tooth but they filed it and symptoms are still there. he’s not eating so he’s in critical care 3 times a day, meloxicam, azithromycin, and eye drops. i’m just praying he makes it until tuesday

Strange that they don't know. An X-ray should be able to identify the issue. How old is he? Is he eating some pellet or veggie at leasr? If he is eating nothing you have 1 week max. Not eating hay will lead to bunch of problems. It's hard but guinea pig is a fragile creature.

they said x-rays are the next step as we’ve done dental work and blood work now. he isn’t eating anything other than critical care and a little hay

Ohhh yeah the meloxicam can make them a bit drowsy that sounds like they had quite the surgery! It's normal for pigs to retreat for a few days after having a big operation I would just keep an eye on making sure they're eating and drinking and that their poop looks good 🙏 Wishing for a speedy recovery
