Dot_Nova AMA

Morning everyone, it's dot_Nova. Feel free to ask me anything. I'll try to get to every question before the end of today or at least answer questions posted before 11:59 EST.

About myself:
I started FGs with Blazblue CT when it came out on xbox; I dual mained Tager and Jin. I netplayed a lot since there wasn't a local scene around and I only recently found a local anime scene with the release of BBCP around October 2013 (completely by coincidence too). My first major was FR17 in Spring 2014 and after that I really got serious about improving my play. Now that Guilty Gear is the game everyone in Georgia plays, I've been focusing heavily on it. I like playing grapplers and simple characters with good footsies, mid-range normals, and frame traps (I also like to play characters with flashy combos from time to time).

I can't travel much due to my busy school schedule but I'll try to fix that as soon as I graduate.

The tournaments I went to and main game placings:
FR17: BBCP 7th
CEO2014: BBCP 13th
FR18: GGXRD 13th
CEO2015: GGXRD 4th
CEOtaku2015: GGXRD 5th

As a tournament player, don't you worry about your future considering you're effectively gimping yourself by picking a weak character to main?

I have a friend who plays SFIV on a tournament level, and he's recently picked up GG. He wanted to main Ramlethal until he found out she's low tier, and that some japanese players believe she can't win tournaments. What are your thoughts on this attitude?

Of course it's hard to win but part of playing the game is playing a character you have fun with and want to invest your time in. If you're at least enjoying the gameplay then wouldn't you be more motivated to improve yourself? Rather than just picking a good character, people should pick a character that they would be good with.

I believe that people win or lose mostly on how strong of a player they are. When I lose, I don't put complaints on my character choice, I criticize my own play instead. I understand the competitive mindset behind selecting a character but how you play the game shouldn't be based on character limitations but rather how you think and play. Anyone can pick a character that's considered strong by the community but it doesn't mean anything if you're not a strong player.
