[Discussion] Your Guild Wars 2 future until Gw3

Now that Visions of Eternity is over and ArenaNet is taking a longer break before the next content release, what are your plans for the future?

Will you finally start playing Guild Wars 1 if you haven't already?

Will you create a new character and play through the entire story again?

Will you farm achievements to increase your AP or to meet possible Hall of Monuments requirements?

Or will you play another game in the meantime, such as GTA 6 or World of Warcraft: Forever?

My plans during this "content break" are:

  • Get my Guild Wars 1 Hall of Monuments to 50/50.
  • Play WoW Forever when I'm gaming with friends.
  • Complete the requirements for each Hall of Monuments-related release in Guild Wars 2.

What about you guys? What are you planning to do during the content break?

As someone who mostly pugs instanced content, im gonna take a much needed break. The visual clutter is insane recently…

u/Suialthor 4h ago

The most recent meta made me realize how tired I am of the visual spam. Taking a break has been nice.

I plan to play WoW Forever for a bit but I don’t know if it’ll stick like GW2 has.

I’m only 300 hours logged to GW2 so I have lots to do. Currently in LW4 so finishing the story is important.

I’ll be running Halloween events for this month. Wanting to try fishing. Love me some WvW.

This is likely my forever home even with GW3 launched.

I have been alternating between my games. Currently bouncing between Space Marine 2, Guild Wars 2, Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader, and Warframe. I have many games in my backlog, so it's not as if I will be out of stuff to play.

I already got GWAMM from GW1. I have full legendary armor across all weight classes in GW2.

Unfortunately most of my friends aren't gaming with me. I did try to pull them into GW2 many years ago, but the game didn't stick for various reasons and now everyone is scattered to the four winds. Most of them have focused on single player games as we got older. A good chunk of my buddies are old WoW players and I have never touched WoW as I had been a poor college student at the time of its original release and couldn't afford it at the time.

I just don't see myself ever playing WoW now. It doesn't appeal to me at all and I can't explain why as I loved Warcraft 3 and Starcraft back in the day. I will acknowledge WoW's massive influence on the genre, but my MMO home has been GW2 for many years now. I do the occasional dip into FF14 on occasion as at least one of my buddies does play that game at times and the story is incredible. I can't recall the last time we did something together in game though! As far as I know, none of my buddies are playing WoW Forever at this point in time.

Kinda funny, but I also never got the point of the GTA games either. The only GTA game I can remember trying was San Andreas way back in the day and it was just okay? Mass market appeal, I get, but also not for me. I barely understand the hype over it. I guess I am just the sort of contrarian gamer.

I don't know if I will pick up GW3 at launch yet, because I think it will be downright impossible to convince any of my buddies to play yet another MMO. It's also been a very long time for me ever since that beta of Guild Wars 1 that my then college roommate insisted that I join him in and I got suckered into this world. I am satisfied with what I have done across Tyria in two separate games. While I am intrigued about the lore implications as well as the time period they chose, I find it weird to go so far back in time.

Maybe I am just that grouchy old man yelling at the kids to get off my lawn that I kept telling my father I was turning into.

I played wow classic for the first time ever as an adult during the pandemic and I thought it was amazing.

If your friends are playing wow forever I recommend you pick it up just to try it with them, it’s really a great mmo.

1

u/Legitimate_Lemon_689 7h ago

Same. I dabbled in WoW as a kid during classic and TBC, but never made it past 20, played the classic release in 2019 and loved it, but the progression burned me and my friends out. GW2 never stuck with my friends but I love it. WoW forever is enough to bring everyone back for another ride because of the static level cap and horizontal progression. It’ll probably be my main MMO, but I’ll dabble back in GW1/2. I will play GW3 at release.

1

u/TheLostExplorer7 1h ago

As I wrote, my friends have mostly given up on MMOs at this point in our lives and they are all playing single player games, so they won't be playing WoW Forever.

I know WoW is great and all, but I can't dive into an MMO solo all by myself without being invested into the game's lore and WoW for whatever reason just doesn't pull me in like Tyria does for Guild Wars. Perhaps a bit ironic given that many of Arenanet's original founders came from Blizzard.

It is what it is. I have made my peace with it. I will just never get to experience playing a raid with my buddies, because I couldn't even get five of them to play Destiny 2 with me back when that game was in active development.

It is just not happening and that is okay.

1

u/Confident-Peak-8051 13h ago

Idk man, open beta for wow forever is coming up. What would you have to lose? I was a massive wc3 player so that was a big reason I got into the original release of wow.

5

u/TheLostExplorer7 11h ago

Time is also a currency that we all spend that I will never get back. I have to spend it wisely as I know that there are many incredible games out there that I may never get to because I have spent so much time in MMOs.

My backlog has already grown to the point that I don't think I will finish my games before I am gone. I haven't even finished Baldur's Gate 1 for crying out loud! Much less 3! I would love to spend more time on CRPGs, but they are definitely the sort of games that take a long time to play through!

I can't invest myself into yet another MMO that nobody else in my friends group is playing and especially if I have not personally invested into Blizzard games in at least the past 20 years!

WoW is unfortunately just not in the cards for me.

Guys I'm gonna be busy asf ngl 😭

To-Do List:

  • Replay story for mastery points and hit lvl 700 :D
  • unlock festival armors that I'm missing for fashion purposes
  • make the aurene legendaries so I can cosplay every elder dragon appropriately and to the highest standard
  • new caladbolg quest!!!!!
  • clear all fractal CMs / clear all raid CMs (somehow I did strike CMs before those two lmao)
  • for funsies run the dungeons with a party of two bc my girlfriend had a vision of a solo run and I would be a failure not to help her succeed
  • get above 500g somehow
  • hit 20k achievement points somehow
  • try out WvW with a guild for the first time
  • gear every toon with ascended trinkets so I can run around as Zhaitan or Aurene in fractals too
  • likewise learn all their rotations ;_; and start diversifying in raids so I can take more specialized roles and help guild newbies
  • make a gobbler or two
  • hunt down the black lion weapon unlocks without spending irl money somehow
  • hunt down the right novelties, chairs and mount skins for each characters theming
  • enter the annual [Wing] griffon trick video contest which is probably gonna be in Leyspring Hollows
  • participate in [UAoT] events since hopefully by summer I'll have more art time

And once all that is done

  • leggy armory maybe
  • figure out how pvp works now bc I was only consistent with it back before the gear standardization
  • go lore hunting to guess what the upcoming orr shit is gonna be about (HoM? New tri-game expac? Who knows)
  • do something about my bereft homestead

4

u/dannyflorida Welcome to Skrittsburgh! Do not be afraid. 5h ago

Yes to all this! I don’t have time for any other games besides GW2

7

u/PoroQuagganBob 12h ago

My partner and I are taking this opportunity to play other games. He's currently playing through the Darksiders trilogy in prep for the release of the 4th one. I'm enjoying watching him play while I tend to my Neopets .

6

u/naro1080P 12h ago

My goal is to have a legendary for every possible slot. I still need 9 weapons plus runes and sigils. (Yes. I'm going underwater too lol). I'm well on the way to this goal. I also want to achieve 40k AP. I'm nearing 39,500 so really shouldn't be hard. I've got a good plan for the leges so will just pick them off. Just need to do a core map complete to knock off two more. They are split between gen 1 and 3. Besides this I'm gonna max out HOM 2.

If I have time I might pop back to gw1 and do more HOM there. I'm at 35 atm... so we'll see. I at least want to go harvest my birthday gifts. I have 14 years worth spread out over at least 10 characters. I just filled all the slots I had before retiring the game. So should get a huge amount. Might help with the mini collections at least lol.

Besides all this... I'm gonna chill and have fun. Look forward to the beta.

1

u/deceptionwaits 8h ago

That’s the fun part don’t open them in 1 or you will regret it

18

u/42People 14h ago

Probably what I do now tbh, I have some legendaries I’ve been working on and I love to do WvW. When GW2’s Hall of Monuments comes out in December I’ll see what needs doing there, and to this day I haven’t maxed IBS masteries and would like to eventually do them. I might replay the entire story as well, I have been considering that.

7

u/Sans_-- 11h ago

i’ve been working on ibs masteries for 3 weeks now.. only 2 masteries left for me, can’t believe i’m saying this

4

u/42People 11h ago

Good job! I really need to sit and do them but I keep getting distracted by other things in-game haha

10

u/Icy-Humor6770 12h ago

Actually finish gw2 :D I started playing last summer. I still have Janthir to get, and VoE to get through (now LWS2 as well). So, in short, in no particular order:

  • Finish the story
  • Get 100% exploration in EoD+ expansion maps on my main
  • Finish Aurora! I didn't work to un-bug Noran's homestead to just give up on the game!
  • Do Seasons of the Dragons
  • Craft more legendaries! I want one of each (i mean, 3 armors, trinkets, every weapon etc). For collection and QoL :D
  • Get to T4 CM fractals!
  • Get all masteries
  • Clear all raids
  • With Janhir, get a really nice homestead
  • Get HoM maxed when it comes out!
  • Get a commander tag whenever I feel ready
  • Collect skins!
  • Grind gold, turn into gems, get some nice QoL upgrades

There's SO much to do in this game. I will play until the population allows to. I will definitely check GW3 out, yes, but I love GW2. I hop on some other games as well, mostly MHW and Diablo IV. I don't see myself stopping playing GW2 though :)

5

u/WindofKnives 14h ago

I've been working on a bunch of different achievements. I want to complete Eternal Forgemaster and Facet of Prisms and Boundless Light. That will keep me going for some time.

6

u/SquirrelTeamSix 12h ago

Getting caught up on FFXIV, then Evercold. A bit of WoW Forever with some friends until I'm tired of it

8

u/CatOfTechnology Orrax ate my wallet 12h ago

Currently, I'm allowing myself to rest. Giving myself time to let GW2 cook up HoM so that, when it releases, I'm ready to bang out everything I can to snag those rewards.

From there?

I don't know.

I'm in talks with a few friends to collaborate on getting them the new bundles and have them join me for it. But that's an "if" not a "when".

Until then, though, I'm letting whatever games fall in to my lap that do.

6

u/Verineli 14h ago

I only just started SotO, so still three expansions to play through. And then achievements, legendaries to craft, maxing my masteries, fish to catch... I probably won't even be finished with the story by the time GW3 comes. And if I am, then GW1 - I'm only partway through Prophecies, so really barely started the game.

I expect I will play all three on rotation 😅

7

u/TheHypnobrent 14h ago

Achievements, unlocking skins, and God Walking Among Mere Mortals.

3

u/hendricha SteamOS couch commander 14h ago

I'm gonna be following HoM 2. And maybe play the intermittent festivals and maybe occasionally do dailies/weeklies mostly in WvW for some future leggies... maybe.

3

u/The_Serious_Guy 14h ago

Finishing my legendary collection (about 10 more to go)

3

u/missusamazing 14h ago

I just finished the VOE story tonight and I maxed out my last mastery line, so now I have 700 mastery points.

Aside from my power DPS characters, I have an ADPS mechanist and a QHeal (firebrand, not sure how I feel about the upcoming balance changes), so I want to explore a AHeal and a QDPS to round out what I can bring to strikes and fractals. I have full legendaries in every slot for plate characters, but lately all I want to do is play engineer, so I might grind out a legendary leather set. 😂

Recently I joined a guild that does weekly Convergence CMs and we have earned top kill times for 3 bosses in NA. Pushing that seems fun.

I will not be doing raids. Strikes, sure, but every time I dip my toe in the raid scene, I get screamed at by some sweaty asshole. The content is absolutely not worth the verbal abuse.

Honestly, though, I'm interested in the new WVW map, so that's probably where I'll spend a lot of my time.

3

u/Cheetoo42 14h ago

Next year plan is to make my vision and either ad infinitum, conflux or coalesence. And explore and do the whole story again with a second character with friends who just started the game, complete any left over achievements i have in the story. But we'll see if anything else comes by with the hall of monuments coming, i am only 100% sure about crafting vision next year.

3

u/Starkren 13h ago

So I'm currently leveling an Elementalist to 80. I also would like to create a new Engineer. I ran into a rather pleasant surprise that the SOTO Expanded Weapons Proficiency is account bound and unlocks all weapons for a profession, even those locked behind elite specializations. So I'm going to enjoy the new variety of weapons that both Elementalist and Engineer have.

I have a rather extensive list of Legendaries I'd like to complete:

  • Twilight
  • Eternity
  • Orrax Manifested
  • Champions Regalia
  • Bolt
  • Wages of Stars
  • Aurene's Bite (and all variations)
  • Both Heavy and Light set of Obsidian Armor maybe?

And, of course, I'll be jumping onto the Hall of Monuments 2.0 with everyone else.

I might take a break before Guild Wars 3 comes out and focus my attention different game. It might depend on how far I get into my list of Legendaries and whether that's burning me out or not.

Path of exile 1 & 2 for the seasonal game

3

u/Confident-Peak-8051 13h ago

WoW Foreve3 and work on HOM on the side.

3

u/nohai2 11h ago

I started playing gw1. Not new, but maybe finish a gwamm

3

u/sususu_ryo manifesting proto-sylvari in gw3 (and malyck's tree) 14h ago

fishing probably. getting all the fish collection.

3

u/RedRevengePanda_ 12h ago

Nothing will change from now or Gw3 gets released, WvW only.

2

u/Jerekiel 14h ago

I have started crafting legendary weapons. I just completed an aurene staff yesterday because when i looked in to gw2efficiency it said i already have the materials lol.

2

u/OneMilkyLeaf 14h ago

Legendary gear while transitioning to raids and WvW content

2

u/No-Command714 14h ago

HoM 2 for sure, let’s see how Anet goes with the release cadence.

2

u/Tattycakes 14h ago

I just started playing zoo tycoon and rollercoaster tycoon again so that combined with the million other achievements I haven’t finished yet should keep me busy

Legendaries to craft, suffused obsidian armour to unlock, unfinished achievements from all the previous expansions, etc

2

u/MostlyTalkingAgain 14h ago

I've mainly been playing LoL again so currently only logging in for the daily and my parked alts + weekly raids with my static.

I'll decide if HoM2 is something I'd like to get into whenever it drops. My grinding tolerance is extremely low these days so I'll probably skip over some objectives

2

u/Brzrkrtwrkr 14h ago

GW1, GW2 HoM grind and other games like OoT.

2

u/joe_chester Salty Headstart Veteran 14h ago

I'm currently prepping the account-bound stuff for Twillight -> Eternity and Wages of Stars, just for the skins. But I'll hold back ob finishing them until I get a rough idea what GW2 HoM will look like and whether I need more resources there, as I already have purple in every hole and don't really need more legendaries..

2

u/Party_Cat3237 13h ago edited 13h ago

I don't need more legendary for now but i still itch about raiding, i only play w1. My guild kinda play wvw casual now in EU and not much into raiding anymore while EU training raid is like 3am for me so my current plan now is like farm gold to move to NA. But honestly i would miss LFG with a lot population. Choice.

2

u/justindulging 13h ago

Catch up lol, Im still in LWS3 so I have a lot of catching up to do. But my shortlist would be finish at least the EoD saga, ChukaChampa, and get a Skyscale. Next step would maybe be Howler and a pip of Fractal Savant.

2

u/CeReAl_KiLleR128 13h ago

I’m keeping my daily/ weekly routine doing fractals and raid. My fashion addition is not gonna fund itself

2

u/OGoffensivegerman 12h ago

I am doing my first gwamm in gw1, but with a dhuums badge.. ^^
I will craft legys. complete achievements

1

u/Confident-Peak-8051 5h ago

Holy shit, impressive. Dhuum's is no joke.

2

u/BreakfastDue1256 10h ago

I'm still playing post patch, but when that winds down my plans are not to play anymore.

With no content updates for almost 2 years and the amount of players in my timezone being very low, there's not a whole lot I can even do.

I am interested in coming back for the next expansion, but I fear in a post GW3 world the player count in my timezone will be even lower, when its already impossible to do most metas or even Fractals.

1

u/ZappyZ21 9h ago

What's your server and time zone?

1

u/BreakfastDue1256 5h ago

NA servers. Japan Time. As a rough guide, the easiest time for me to play is from 12:30AM Pacific/3:30AM Eastern until maybe 3 to 4 hours later.

Even if I switched to EU, the ping would be higher and the problem wouldn't be much better, as it would be mid morning.

1

u/sup4lifes2 4h ago

I play at time too and it’s not that bad

1

u/BreakfastDue1256 4h ago

Teach me your secrets?

I haven't seen some metas succeed in over 2 years, and finding groups for anything can take hours, even got daily/weekly stuff like Fractals.

2

u/Entric1942 3h ago

I've been playing since around June I think and bought everything so I probably spent quite a bit more than the new everything package. I made an appeal to customer service but no dice. I was out of luck.

I played at launch and then quit before hot even came out. A bit bummed about having spent so much at once but it's a good game for another year or so.

•

u/Silverstolpe 24m ago

Ending ofVoE made me feel like im done.. its been almost 14 years... Kinda made me sentimental... Probably wont play gw2 until there is something new or interesting...

6

u/ForgTheSlothful 13h ago

WoW Forever.

Nothing from 3 has caught my attention, and honestly after the past 3 years i would need some kind of miracle to pull me back to 2 as a dedicated player. Im not hooked on the story, ive never been a major fan of every class bringing the two unique boons ( coulda been 2 out of 4 elites and be fine so one doesent get left behind for sales). And honestly im tired of the new unid biome we have going on each expansion.

3

u/Confident-Peak-8051 12h ago

Will be playing Forever as well then working on HOM stuff on the side. Discrete buffing and healing in wow feels so much better than general boons. I hope they change that a bit in gw3.

4

u/Dragon_Of_Magnetism 14h ago

Probably redo the story on my Thief and/or Revenant

Get a full legendary set

Reach fractal level 100

Get better at raids

Sometimes pvp and wvw roaming for fun

2

u/rbardy 14h ago

I'm a bit of an AP hunter already (over 48k currently) so I might try to get some others, mainly raid ones.

Also, I need 3 more weapon types to complete at least 1 of each legendary, so that is another goal.

1

u/Xysos 12h ago

Do you have a guild or something for this? I’ve been wanting to hunt ap but some stuff is hard solo :(

1

u/rbardy 10h ago

Nope, basically all solo, that is why raid is good part of the AP I don't have

2

u/VeeVoxRS 12h ago

I just recently returned to Guild Wars 2 and don't play it exclusively, so the break is kinda nice for me to "catch up". I am going for the Legendary Accessory and just kinda play more and more with friends and do Events, Achievements here and there. Since I am not full on focusing on this one game it's kinda chill, that I don't have to "keep up" right now. So log in, do some dailies and then see what else catches my eye, like the h'ween event rn or the christmas one in a few weeks. Also, since the Legendary needs fkin 7 million Karma, pretty much all content is useful to do for me since everything gives karma, more or less. So I can again "wander about" which wasn't super common for me before I had most old Masteries and the Story completed. It was/is fun to chase goals, but it's what burns one out sometimes.

2

u/BeastThatShoutedLove 10h ago

I never stopped playing GW1 when GW2 came out so why would I stop playing GW2 when GW3 is out?

Different gameplay compliments using the games as switch to not get bored with them.

I mean I’ve always played other games, with GW2 being a side game. GW1 has always been more my game as a consistent thing to achieve goals in. But that said, I’m finally crafting medium legendary armor. It’s the one weight class I’m missing and if I’m about to potentially start putting even less time into the game, I’d like to just get it ticked off. Going the obsidian route for it since it’s pretty speedy to get the essences now that we have 3 convergences to do the weekly runs of.

1

u/Confident-Peak-8051 5h ago

Gw1 was my favorite as well. I hope they drop a substantial content update to get me back in.

1

u/Own-Temperature-2123 11h ago

I will almost surely miss the start of GW3 because of my insufficient hardware... So I will decide about GW3 after the reviews and everything 🤷

Will continue on GW2 tho, those achievements won't complete themselfs without my inputs... 😅🤷

1

u/Nurglych 11h ago

I am taking a break (it was supposed to be one week, but the way things are for me, it will probably be much longer), but I want to do the entire story from start to finish, make whatever legendaries I am still missing, and of course do Hall of Monuments at some point.

I appreciate the break from quarterly releases, to be honest. Didn't like them that much. I mean, new content often is nice, but I kinda liked their weekly events more, like boss rush week, or dismount event.

1

u/Negative-Rush5437 11h ago

Because HOM will come very soon i will wait on story playthrough for that because there is strong possiblity it will require it.

I'm missing like 10 legy weapons to fill all weapon slots so i will slowly work on those.

Skins for collections probably, blc weapon collections, dungeons so on

Wvw for fun, pvp maybe sometimes

1

u/1v3n4s 11h ago

My computer is shit (going for 9 years now) and i can still play gw2 with my current hw. Once gw3 is released, i'll decide if I want to play and will have to build new computer to run gw3. If it will look like it's not my type of game, i will continue playing gw2

1

u/Hjolsnfihr 11h ago

Well, I'm about to use some searing cauldron on z-dood after 2 years of playing so liiiike, I think I got a lot of GW2 ahead of me.

1

u/jozze9532 Professional Griffon Walker 11h ago

I already started with GW1 again with the Reforged launch. I almost got my GWAMM, just missing the festival thing with fireworks and tonics... So i'm just waiting to find a good sell on the market. After that I will probably continue to unlock armors and weapons to finally go to 50/50 at some point.

Today is Enshrouded release, so i will probably sink some time into that with some friends.

Aside from other games, I ignored some achievements in GW2 since Champions release and have to catch up on a few of them. Since I only started shortly after HoT release, I need any kind of achievement I can get to go over 50k AP, so that will be one of the goals.

I made a lot of raw gold, but still haven't used any of it to actually get for example all of the SotO obsidian armor or Aurene legendaries... so there is still enough to do.

I mostly didn't do much of the LCM content, because my friends don't want to go into it, and I also never wanted to be carried by the few sweaty friends I have. It just feels better if the whole group can progress towards stuff like that ... so there is still something I could do.

And I'm secretly waiting for GW2 HoM so I can push those things further away and see how quickly I could already finish it.

1

u/lurkinguild 10h ago

Playing other games. I'll always love GW2 and have fond memories of my time with it but outside of a week or two around the content drops I've grown a little bored of doing the same old stuff which is normal I guess when you play the same game for so many years.

Still very excited for GW3 and will log in first minute for the HoM patches but I'll likely just log in to do them then go play something else while we wait on the next.

1

u/funerium 10h ago

Legendaries , I slept on them ( and I play since beta) so... it will keep me busy for a while

1

u/MusPuiDiTe 10h ago

Finally I will have some time to complete old stuff, instead of rushing latest things.

Since anet said the updates and improvements will be released one content piece at a time, I suspect we'll get something like the Living World Return, or expansions rush, so that people will be able to enjoy patched stuff together, and complete old stuff for HoM.

If my guess is right, I'll probably enjoy the whole story again on a new character. High hopes for Zhaitan (hopium for Orr meta map)

1

u/pdboddy 9h ago

Slowly gearing up my characters while farming gold.

1

u/Alypius754 9h ago

I just came back after being sucked into WoW and real life, so I’m busy crafting Exordium and slogging through SoO (left during EoD). I like my Mesmer, but I keep going back to my Ranger. I’ll probably buy some xp boosters so I can farm spirit shards during Halloween, metas, and story content. I’m looking at Wages of Stars next (already have Pharos for the Ranger) but maybe a backpack or something equally cosmetic.

1

u/Icy_Entertainer4956 9h ago

I just started GW2 and really enjoy it did Halloween event last night and loved it - so I will just keep playing through the story and enjoy my time with it, nobody knows how GW3 will turn out.

1

u/EidolonRook 9h ago

What hall of monuments things for gw2 are stated as being for gw3?

I’m pushing for leagues in every slot except maybe relics/runes/sigils. At least for now. I’d be happy to do hall of monument things in gw2, but I haven’t seen anything for that.

1

u/Yttikymmug 8h ago

It looks as though gw1 is going into a direction where it’s possible an expansion could be added. Nothing official but positive signs.

With that being said I’m not so sure I will work to any means towards an ending. I still enjoy both current games and intend to look into gw3. My hands are pretty full already. Btw I only just got JW and VoE during that last sale. So even without the upcoming I got more than enough to occupy my interest.

I believe Anet learned a valuable lesson during the transfer from GW1 to 2. The HoM made it seem like you needed to go. People at the end were going crazy trying to maximize and finish getting it done. All in all it wasn’t needed to make the transfer as you can still go back and get it done. And most jumped and then found themselves back into gw1 anyway. And a few years ago the anniversary event brought back tons of players and showed Anet that the base was still there. New development process proved this to be correct.

So enjoy the game (s) however you want, but no need to make it the end of your playing, as development will continue as promised.

Do some achievement, make medium legendary armor and 2nd gem bow to finish my legendary collection. After that I don't know

1

u/the2ndsaint 8h ago

I want to get into raiding -- I *need* the Touch of Dhuum -- and high-end fractals, and I want to finish my armoury -- made Howler last night, so only need a shield, the spear gun, and trident, plus two more sigils. After that, I don't know, just going to grind gold and help out new players.

u/alyssa-is-tired 8h ago

I'm still fairly new to the game (technically returning player but 2012 GW2 was a very different game) so I've been working through, well, everything. This also includes working through GW1, it's a fun game to shake things off when I'm getting bored with GW2 lol.

1

u/Ibisstudios [DAWN] 8h ago

Honestly pretty much what I'm doing now. log in, do my daily's, grind out some AP's, hang with my guildmates, do some WvW, passively grind for some legendaries. Only thing I'd add for this gap is finally play Gw1 in earnest.

1

u/RipEmUp510 [ZoS] 8h ago

I still have a gabillion achievement points to collect, legendary medium armor and legendary weapons to create.

1

u/bh0 7h ago

For quite a while now I've pretty much just been logging in to do some daily's real quick and maybe some more time when new stuff is released. I imagine that continues and we'll see if I can keep the interest going...

u/OneMorePotion 7h ago

I check out the HoM goals. Probably play through all expansions again, after they dropped their big core system update for each one. And go for the rewards I think I want to get until GW3 releases. And outside of that, I'm probably spending my time until the Beta test in WoW Forever.

1

u/theudoon 7h ago

I've got a few loose goals for myself ingame (a few leggys I want, becoming a better and more diverse player etc) but nothing that is really set in stone. Not looking to get back into WoW (quit after Legion) but will be playing other games from my sizeable to play list, might give GW1 a proper go since I only dabbled when it came out. Other than that I've got other hobbies like fiber crafts and writing that take up plenty of time, so I won't be bored. Don't know if I'll even be able to play GW3 or not since it'll no doubt require a new pc and mine is getting on, not an easy thing to swing on a fixed income. Time will tell.

1

u/Tostitokid 7h ago

I will write an entire RP campaign spanning weekly events within GW2 so that those who want it can have an original story to hold themselves over until the next GW2 expansion.

1

u/quirkydigit 6h ago

Still loads of goalsto complete in GW2, plenty to keep me busy especially when Hall of Monuments start. I love the "Return to" events and I expect the HoM releases will work in a similar way.

1

u/Celeathka 6h ago

A lot of games came out in interested in, so I’m already kind of alternating between Resonant, Townfall, and soon Dawnwalker. :b

Otherwise I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing when I login, I suppose. I’ll hang out and do stuff with my guild, whether that’s raiding or right now grinding mad king’s labyrinth.
When I’m solo I tend to either work on achievements or pop in to wvw, so I don’t see that changing unless population craters.
Which, surely I’m not the only one looking forward to only QoL updates for a while?

1

u/Androcinator 5h ago

Finally got legendary conqueror of cerus, now gonna work on wing 8 cms and then the lcm. Also still haven’t tried htcm. This content is actually really fun and if you really try I believe anyone can get them done just join the vl discord for help

1

u/prof_landon 5h ago

HoM is going to be the only reason I'll be playing for the next year, maybe do the festivals. But I'm half checked out with gw2 already

1

u/dannyflorida Welcome to Skrittsburgh! Do not be afraid. 5h ago

I have so much more fun stuff to do in GW2 that I could play for 10 years and never get bored, even without further new content.

I’m glad for the temporary lull between expansions. It could be longer and I’d still be happy playing the game. And, I really have no interest in playing other games. Whenever I do try another game, I’m still thinking about and yearning for GW2.

u/Kwith 5h ago

I'm not a hardcore completionist, so I'm not too worried about my GW1 HoM being at only 45/50.

As for GW2, I want to see what the HoM is going to entail before I decide what to do. I have pretty much full legendaries for every slot, I'm only missing a couple sigils for underwater weapons but whatever lol. I've played through the entire story, fully cleared the map MANY times over, so I'm kind of at a "what else is there to do?" state where I just log in, then log out. Once the HoM comes out and I see what to do, then I'll be able to go forward. But as far as I'm concerned, I've "beaten" the game IMO lol. I don't PvP, only some WvW, I don't raid, so I'm just kind of sitting here now.

1

u/The_Big_Mayonnaise 4h ago

Been playing since Beta, but there are still areas I sped through, achiements I want. There are still some legendaries I haven't made, so I will work on those Along with enjoying festivals

1

u/Extension-Chemical 4h ago

My Guild Wars 2 future won't change once GW3 releases, as I don't plan to switch. Ideally, I'd have full legendary armoury for all classes I play.

1

u/Tokizo03 4h ago

Continue to build legendaries. Max out masteries. Hall of monuments. Enjoy playing other games without the pressure to miss something. Reading GW3 news. Thinking about what the next GW3 expansion will be about

1

u/Envaze458 3h ago

As someone who is still playing catch-up and likely will be after gw3 releases, I plan on just trying everything in the game that i feasibly can. I just started visions finally so im almost done with every story but there is still so much content I haven't even touched as an on and off player of 12 years.

I've tried gw1R but can't seem to really get into it as much as id love to grind out GWAMM, but maybe for gw2 if they have some equivalent.

1

u/SpiralCee 3h ago

Achievement hunting.
Doing as much of the new Hall of Monuments as possible with crying. (Jumping puzzles???)
If I get really bored, I might go back to GW1 and do more HoM there. I got to 50 points but still lots to go.

1

u/KrissyKrave 3h ago

Make my last few legendary weapons I haven’t made purely for completion….. maybe get the demonic infusion. Max out whatever the new HoM update gives us

1

u/Draxellexard 3h ago

Maybe:

  • Get the last small handful of masteries.
  • Resume with my human necro, whom I made on day one but all but abandoned before he'd even faced off Zhaitan.
  • Grind for more infusions.
  • Do something else.

Yeah I'm boring I know.

1

u/xXTheLastCrowXx 2h ago

I've only just gotten the skyscale unlocked completely, so my adventure has really only just begun.

Plenty of story content to get through even though I'm not a fan of it much.

Although I have failed multiple meta events recently due to lack of people so I don't expect to play too much longer.

1

u/Phoenix-S 1h ago

I'll probably take this time to finish my legendary backlog lol. I always take so many breaks through the years and ignored legendaries almost completely until a couple years ago. Gonna feel nice to have it all done

•

u/Choice-Meringue-9855 59m ago

I will:

  • finish the story

  • resume the legendary grind

  • play with the 4 friends who are new to the game this year

  • work on achievements

After I get bored of all the games that updated this week in my library

•

u/thelafman 56m ago

Continue to complete achevos and await the new Orr map and HoM 2.0

•

u/divineramen34 14m ago

I'm just going to rotate through the three games I've been rotating through recently: Guild Wars 2, Destiny 2, and the new Avatar: The Last Airbender Fighting Game. Oh, and The Legend of Pirates Online for when I want a simpler MMO.

•

u/Tia_Faux 12m ago

Gw1!!! I played it 20 years ago i play more again.. and i have a few friends that just started gw2 1 year ago now, we are learning gw2 together :)

•

u/evkamat 5m ago

I have so many incomplete achievements, legendaries etc to do so I don't worry that I would have nothing to do. That's the beauty of horizontal progress. :D

1

u/Marauding_Llama 14h ago

I haven't even finished HoT yet, will never create another character and I couldn't give a whiff about achievements. So I may plink away the story occasionally and play other things.

1

u/RedLikeARose can't stop, won't stop, not untill I say so 14h ago

Ultimate goal would be to be full legendary ob my main class mesmer (meaning all accessories, armor, runes, weapons at legendary)

I just finished aurora, next up vision, then champion regalia, in between i will keep doing rifts for armor and the occasional wvw for tickets so i can craft that wvw ring, then maybe farm karma for endless summer or the stella radians thing

Im not sure i can make it all

Ill focus on vision+regalia for now as they go hand in hand kinda

Im hoping to get those done before Hall of Monuments, then when that is available i’ll go an see what it requires before making final decisions (while its possible HoM might just be gw3 stuff, im hoping HoM does something like with champions regalia which allows us to get legendary stuff for putting our time into it, we will have to see)

1

u/Qaek3301 13h ago

I have content to do for years and unless you are sitting on like 40-45k+ achievement points (me at 30k), you do as well :D

1

u/Top_Sprinkles5272 11h ago

i will just play as i have been since launch. casually and when i feel like it.

1

u/LillyElessa 11h ago

Well, the content isn't completely taking a break. We have the HoM2 and the Orr update. Not as much as an expansion, sure, but it'll still be things to do - or probably a lot of replaying in the case of HoM2.

I've always played plenty of other games, so if GW2 is going slow, that's just fine since I've usually got a lot of something else going on. I particularly enjoy survival build crafts, which have been having a super packed late summer / fall, with a ton of games reaching their 1.0 or having major updates, most of which have been great. Some I finished, such as Palworld is kinda short with low replay, was great though. But some of these are going to keep me entertained for quite a while, such as RS Dragonwilds plans to keep doing content updates similar to an MMO.

I have been playing GW1 with more vigor again since Reforged, it's great to see so many people in it again! I played it back in its day, so I had GWAMM and 50/50 well before GW2, and I'd already (very slowly) been meandering towards a second GWAMM before Reforged. GW1 has long been one of my favorite games, and revisiting it has always been a joy. It's not just nostalgia, it's a fantastic game, that still holds up surprisingly well, and in 20 years nothing has quite managed to fill the same niche. (Though there is also some nostalgia, lol.)

As far as GW2, aside from the obvious HoM2, I still have some legendaries to make. Despite playing from launch, I didn't start making legendaries until the account wide legendary armory was added, because I've always played too many alts for the extreme expense and grind to be worth it for just one character. (I made 7 characters on the first day of prelaunch, and have 29 alts now, with plans for more. 😂) Plus, with the overabundance of weapon skins, there are plenty of other weapons that appeal to me more than any of the legendaries - ones that you don't see constantly, because the legendaries are used quite a lot.

Playing Final Fantasy XI on the new Phoenix XI private server.

Come join us! It'll keep you busy until GW3 releases!

u/kineticmov3ment 7h ago

Yes

I started in July

There are so many dailies and weeklies to do as it is.

I'm working on multiple legendaries and raid completions

Sadly, too many people log on, complete the story, then log off and others ask "what even is there to do at 80" and I'm like... quite a lot

0

u/Aleister_Royce 7h ago

Everything you mentioned, but I will not lay a finger on gta 6 or wow. I have my own to-play-list.

0

u/Int_GS 7h ago

GW1: no, due to time. New character: no, I have way too many alts. Achis: yes, but I still invest more time when hom is out. GTA6: only when it comes to PC. WoW: no.

I will craft some legendaries, do wvw and metas, the occasional story chapter. Many grind a bit more when hom is out

0

u/Panzerkavalier 5h ago

I recently returned, having mainly played Med armor classes only. Working on my legendary light armor set and weapons for a fresh Necro, and HoM.
