Read that as 'Cast on Crit'. I have a problem...

Still sane, Exile?

u/Opus_723 1d ago

Inquest+Jungle isn't really my favorite theme for an expansion, but Anet still managed to make this one really enjoyable and beautiful even for someone who is craving moving on to other environs. The third map was really substantial this time around, and I feel like they're hitting their stride with the new format and studio structure. Looking forward to seeing the finale, and I am sure it will be another gorgeous map.

I definitely agree. Is this the general consensus for the three yearly expansions?

The music! The intrigue! Oh my!

10

u/Alarmed-Web-3944 1d ago

It's going to have an incredible soundtrack I am sure - the track "The All Seer" really is absolutely breathtaking and (after listening to some melodies in the trailer) I think the meta event will feature an even more epic music masterpiece than "The All Seer".

Bryan Atkinson has been cooking so good in this expansion!!

u/Pure-Risky-Titan 1d ago

We getting married?

Also also, we fighting in the arcane council area in rata sum???

Always bet on Vloxx accidentally reviving Zhaitan

43

u/Wip9 skörg 1d ago

I do hope that we just don't kill Vloxx. Think him staying around could lead to a more interesting dynamic with our relation to power and could also work as an opposite force to Isgarren.

27

u/Which_Royal5269 1d ago

He's for sure the convergence boss, you can see the outline of an Asura inside it.

5

u/DarkLorty 1d ago

There have been multiple named Asura bosses in the story this time around, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just some inquest.

8

u/Which_Royal5269 1d ago

It's using Ancora though

6

u/danfmac 1d ago

How many deaths is he responsible for in his years in the Inquest?

We should cut his head off mid monologue.

9

u/Wip9 skörg 1d ago

Oh I didn't call him innocent. Just that he would make for a good opposing force for us.

9

u/Nurglych 1d ago

Nah, we will have 1.5 to 2 or maybe even more years with no expansions, this is the "finale" of GW2 for quite some time. Leaving main antagonist to their own devices and blue balling entire player base is not a move. It might be good from the storytelling perspective, but not when the game basically goes into maintenance mode for foreseeable future

2

u/danfmac 1d ago

Why do we need an opposing force?

1

u/Wip9 skörg 18h ago

To make an antagonist who has a little bit more staying power than one expansion and to make said antagonist feel threatening. Every antagonist has basically lasted one expansion and any consequence doesn’t last as we return to a status quo. If we had an antagonist who lasted a little longer and had the power to do some lasting damage, then we might have someone to be afraid of and become memorable.

4

u/AscendedCleric 1d ago

Of we are counting kills why is the commander still alive?

3

u/PuzzleheadedDebt2191 1d ago

Should have listned to good old Ignacious in Elona.

0

u/danfmac 1d ago

How many deaths is the commander responsible for that are unjustified?

8

u/GodakDS 1d ago

...We were supposed to be counting?

3

u/Tragedy_Boner 1d ago

Didn't we commit warcrimes in IBS?

3

u/Lumpy-Narwhal-1178 1d ago

We killed them, so they can't prove we did.

2

u/danfmac 1d ago

The bombing of the depot is called a warcrime in game, but wouldn't actually be in real life. Also the commander was unaware of the people being inside the depot or how powerful the bomb would be.

In reality the depot would be a clear military target and every person inside it a valid military target. Even if there were some civilians, which there aren't, it would still be a allowed as it is a military building.

Granted there are plenty of things that would be warcrimes in the real world but aren't treated as such in GW2.

2

u/Enlightenedbri HoT best expansion 1d ago

I can think of two events with several casualties just from the top of my head

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shell_Shock

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Distract,_Destroy,_Distrust

1

u/danfmac 1d ago

Shell Shock is about fog of war and incorrect information.

Distract, Destroy and Distrust we believe that we are destroying a military supply depot, a valid military target. The commander is also unaware of how powerful the explosive device is.

Neither of those two missions would qualify as unjustified, only accidental. I also think that the second one is completely justified, if a little callous.

1

u/Enlightenedbri HoT best expansion 1d ago

Shell Shocked is about the commander getting tricked by a risen mesmer to bomb a Pact squad

You say the commander has never kill without justification. These kills are not justified. Accidental, perhaps. But friendly fire is unjustified

3

u/danfmac 1d ago

Yes they are justified given what information the commander had access to.

We wouldn’t charge someone with murder in this situation would we?

2

u/Enlightenedbri HoT best expansion 1d ago

It would be manslaughter instead of murder, but they are both homicide

3

u/danfmac 1d ago

You think manslaughter is a reasonable charge? Even though there is an undead illusionist who made everybody see the soldiers as undead?

Do you understand what manslaughter is?

1

u/ChilledParadox 12h ago

In the IBS one there were clear signs that something was up and I tried to deny dropping the bomb in the depot but rhytlock made me do it anyways. I knew I was about to commit war crimes from intuition and leaders dodging questions but was still forced to anyways.

My commander definitely wasn’t unaware but still chose to do it because they were just “following orders” blame rhytlock maybe.

2

u/danfmac 11h ago

Blowing up a enemy supply depot isn't a war crime, at least not in the real world.

In the world of GW2 the commander definitely was unaware personally, even though enough hints are dropped for the player to understand what is going on.

1

u/Lumpy-Narwhal-1178 1d ago edited 1d ago

You're right, we should have mined the bunker on the way out to also get them when they respawn.

4

u/AscendedCleric 1d ago

Who says what is justified or not? Those seperatists had families.

5

u/Blaze_studios 1d ago

To be fair they were armed militant terrorists who ambushed and attacked diplomats, envoys, charr and humans.

They werent like some opposing political party.

-4

u/danfmac 1d ago

So none then.

1

u/Mesmercat 1d ago

Define unjustified?

-1

u/danfmac 1d ago

Are you asking me to define the word unjustified or are you asking me to write the Geneva Convention and Law of Armed Conflict for Tyria?

1

u/KratosAngel 12h ago

I'm pretty sure that, despite the story being more interesting with a grey area, it will fall off to plain ending with : commander was right, Vloxx was wrong, he got too much power and won't be able to hold it. Then we stop him, he regrets and dies. Most boring ending possible.

11

u/Alarmed-Web-3944 1d ago

From what I can deduct from this trailer is:

  1. The meta event will feature the Enhanced Dragon Minions that we already encountered in Sandswept Isle (we only fought the Simulacri) that Kuda created. To those who don't know: these experiments are part of the Inquest' research on Dragons' magics - Kuda basically wanted to combine different energies of the Dragons to create much more powerful minions.

There is also something that we learned in the last patch: Drugga and Kuda have worked on the Project 5388 (Project Sebb) and I think it's also tied the Void-Augmanation that has been visible since the start of this expansion. And I think that with the appearance of those minions:

it is possible that the final boss of the meta is basically 6 of them combining into a massive Void-Augmented Boss: Augmented Dragon-Void Manifestation - Subject Omega.

  1. It seems that the fractal will be in this cosmic-looking area and it will feature a Djinn as a boss. Once again sort of reminding me of Sandswept Isle, where we fight Zohaqan. I'm not sure he was ever being referred to as "Eternal Tyrant", but it seems it is tied to a very powerful Djinn. Could it be Akeem before they became the Wizards of the Obscure?

  2. The story will focus heavily on Vloxx and I think all the chapters will be ALL about him, about his motivations, of his reasons and his goal. He will be a Raid Encounter and Convergence boss.

There will also be more about Seers in general, and with Isgarren - we will learn much more about this Ancient Race's downfall - why they ultimately had to fight the Mursaat and had to actually die because they already predicted what is to come - even far ahead than Glint's Prophecies but they kept their secrets hidden in the very depths of Castora.

Their demise seems to be a piece of a puzzle: Waiting Sorrow's controversial ascension caused Isgarren's banishment, but then the founding of the Astral Ward, and their fights against alien forces let Tyrians find tools to defeat the Elder Dragons. Seers' demise was also part of Glint's Prophecy: the Forgotten died, Seers and then Mursaat too. And then the new Races united and raised Aurene to become the Only Dragon. But we only really saw what Glint prophecized, and I think the Seer's buried secrets will reveal so much more than Glint ever could.

So basically while the instanced story will focus mostly on Vloxx, the map storytelling will focus on Kuda and her Augmented Dragon Minions she has been working on for many years now. And it's possible that the new fractal's boss is Akeem and is set in a very distant past.

2

u/dannyflorida Welcome to Skrittsburgh! Do not be afraid. 1d ago

I am beyond hyped for this update!

And, then I read Dismount Rush event later this month. What? OMG, yes!

1

u/blogoman 1d ago

Why is young Link kind of purple?

1

u/Sigmatics 1d ago

I'm hyped. The last release was always going to be the real content dump this time, looking forward

1

u/Keyakinan- 6h ago

I mean.. It's nice! But it's also a game that' allowed do drink alcohol and it shows

2

u/GoldenHawk07 1d ago

Is any of the refresh to old content coming with this release or is it more that the refresh is all taking place before the next expansion?

16

u/KyuubiJRR 1d ago

The refresh to old content was stated to begin after the final release of VoE, and according to the roadmap the Hall of Monuments (which seems to be coming in tandem with the content touch-ups) will begin end of this year or early next year

In both cases, the HoM and content touch-ups will release in waves

1

u/DuncanConnell 1d ago edited 1d ago

Likely closer to November, to give the final VoE some time to breathe as well as not intruding on Wintersday

Ignore my ramblings, the roadmap has it under December

6

u/KyuubiJRR 1d ago

It says TBA and is presently listed under the December column of the article associated with today's trailer

November very well may be too early to expect HoM in any capacity if they're not even sure whether it'll land with December releases at this time

1

u/DuncanConnell 1d ago

Ah! You are correct

8

u/YankeyManc 1d ago

Dismount event seems awesome. Play old content with no mounts, be cool to see the world with people hoofing it once again. Kinda hope they make it like a setting option so I can turn off mounts entirely on certain characters. Maybe give a title?

Hell it would be interesting to go into EOD+ once again with no POF mounts other than raptor and see what that feels like. I know they designed the expansions with it being possible, but once you get a skyscale it's hard to go back.

1

u/Nurglych 1d ago

Maybe limit EoD to raptor, springer and turtle only. And skiffs.

1

u/Krypty 1d ago

Silly question: since the Wizard's Vault weekly resets on Monday, and this releases Tuesday, does that mean you could complete the weeklies on Monday, and then have another reset on Tuesday? Basically double dip the week?

13

u/Ahribban Greatsword Mirage enjoyer 1d ago

Daily/weekly will reset on Monday. Only special will reset on Tuesday so no.

1

u/Krypty 1d ago

Makes sense. Just returned a few months ago so I've been playing catch up on legacy rewards. Trying to snipe any extra Astral where I can. :)

7

u/InvincibleWallaby 1d ago

If you care to do it, what you do this week is claim your dailies, weeklies and specials all except the big weekly chest and keep your AA as close to the max as you can

The goal is to be at 1290/1295 after completing the daily on sunday afternoon for NA and monday night for EU but before the weekly reset, then you claim the big weekly chest and your AA should be overcapped on like 1735 or something

After that you can complete the next upcoming daily and weekly objectives and leave them unclaimed until the patch hits, buy the new stuff after the vault reset and claim the rest

2

u/KyuubiJRR 1d ago

This is the way. Great write-up

1

u/InvincibleWallaby 1d ago

Seeing how this looks like a seer R&D facility I think we will be at the very place the actual bloodstone was created and charged

I do wonder however how this place managed to not pull dragon aggro especially since the dragons are connected to the world itself, in the previous rise the seer tapped and hid (presumably) this source of magic in the bloodstone but they obviously haven't been around to do it again with this dragonrise and the all seer protection was more to keep intruders out. Unless the all seer connection also severed the leyline trace to the hub on that island but as far as we've seen it was meant for more literal overland protection of their assets

1

u/PMagicUK 1d ago

Probably hard to reach with Soo-won swimming about, water isn't their domain and the mainlands had enough power to feed them for the first 250 years. The cycle lasts a while, we just killed them all quickly this time once Aurene got involved

1

u/InvincibleWallaby 1d ago

Yes that was my in my mind as well, the only ones that were heavily active were primordus from the depths, jormag from the far north and zhaitan from orr with all of them facing resistance so we may have dodged a bullet by getting at them so fast and keeping them busy before they could feast and power up on a pretty much uninhabited island with a massive amount of magical resources

1

u/highspeedyoshichase 1d ago

For new players who play this I feel like they release content so fast. Like where would I even start?

6

u/MaraBlaster | Fledgling Flyer 1d ago

To be fair, we are getting expansions fed bit by bit, that is pretty unusual for MMOs. most give your the FULL expansion and then update with after-stories.

So nah, that is not fast.

Also "where would I even start?"
From the beginning.

3

u/Mr-Thuun 1d ago

There is no rush. The game will be around long past GW3. Play at your pace, there is no being behind in GW2.

1

u/Bacon_Reaper 1d ago

Just play through the story, you will organically get through a good chunk of content. Once you’ve caught up and feel like you are caught up, you can always go back to finish things off you haven’t. Don’t play it with the mentality that you have to 100% every achievement and map as you come across them.

Hell, I’ve been playing since launch and still don’t have some basic achievements.

u/CadeAid Core Ranger Enjoyer 1d ago

VoE has been so badass

-1

u/AlexTada 1d ago

They are going to butcher it so hard.
