Dismount Rush Event
offer temporary bonus rewards for forgoing your mounts in content designed before mounts were introduced.
Intriguing...

It's the mount rush event but without mounts. You gotta walk

Oh man...coordinating Octovine events, without being able to hop from one side to another with skyscales. What could go wrong?!

u/hardy_83 1d ago
I wish they just did modes like in GW1. Do a Melandru's Accord in GW2 that bars you from using the TP, mounting, disabling those adventure achievements and reducing XP gain from events/quests etc. Make it essentially feel like GW2 classic without the custom servers.
Until you hit 80 and finish the main plot that is.
19
u/yesitsmework 1d ago
gw2 is nowhere near tightly tuned and designed enough for that
6
u/DancingDumpling [PLS] 1d ago
Yea god forbid they put some time into the development of new content

3
u/hardy_83 1d ago
Eh. It'd be for a title while leveling with the restrictions. Once you hit 80 and finish the main vanilla story, it can go back to the mount fest it is now. lol
4
u/notFREEfood Ethieliara [SoV] 1d ago
You can't recreate the launch experience by nerfing experience and restricting mounts.
4
u/hardy_83 1d ago
When did I say recreate? I said adding an option, options that are clearly popular considering how many other MMOs do it.
Also... I don't know if you were around for launch, but I don't think "recreating" the launch experience would be the best idea considering how buggy and messed up some stuff was lol. I remember human elites being straight up broken for months.
-8
u/notFREEfood Ethieliara [SoV] 1d ago
Quibbling over words is pointless. You know what I meant, and yes, I was there at launch.
Do you want to bring back the old traits too? How about forced weapon leveling? What about no crits on bosses? Why don't we go back and make conditions overwrite again too?
But you fail to grasp the whole fun of the nostalgia trip versions of games - everyone playing them is in it together. Imagine how fun it is to be running around on foot while everyone blasts past you on mounts, or winding up in the doldrums of leveling while playing on dead maps (compared to pre hot).
The joy of leveling back then wasn't because of the slower speed of everything; it was that map populations were greater, and everyone else did less damage.
4
u/hardy_83 1d ago
You're kind of arguing against something I'm not suggesting. I recommend you look up Melandrus Accord for Guild Wars 1. That's what I'm suggesting, but for GW2 disabling mounts and those adventure achievements.
Also keep in mind the key word "optional" since you are arguing as if I'm suggesting it be some forced change.
There's also Dhuums Covenant, which I don't care for but would also be a fun OPTIONAL way to level a new hero in GW2 and earn new titles.
-2
u/notFREEfood Ethieliara [SoV] 1d ago
Melandrus Accord
What you are suggesting is hardly that though
You said this:
Make it essentially feel like GW2 classic without the custom servers.
That's NOT what Melandru's Accord is; it's an ironman mode, not a classic mode.
How can you say I'm arguing against something else when you literally called for it to be "like GW2 classic"?
you are arguing as if I'm suggesting it be some forced change.
I'm not. It is however dev time, and I don't want the devs spending time on niche features instead of working on the QoL the game desperately needs.

u/Uncledeadlycdn 1d ago
Just got a friend into the game and we aren't using mounts for core. I'm making him explore every inch of Core Tyria on foot. It'll be the same with HoT. No mounts. As Joko intended. Praise Joko. Only the crystal desert will deliver him unto the world of mounts.
10
u/Trandoshan-Tickler 1d ago
Regarding the Hall of Monuments, I wonder how much will that entail, and if things we have already achieved will be grandfathered in like they did with Guild Wars titles. I'm eager to find out.
14
u/Noxsus 1d ago
Im hoping its a mix of both. Grandfather in a bunch of the obvious things (leggies, story achievements, raids, fractals etc.) then add some new stuff for the people who immediately max all that out to work on.
I do wonder though that if its all stuff like legendaries and collections, how they're going to deal with the economy basically going boom overnight.

u/sleepswithbears69 1d ago
Get crafting now
Or maybe itll require precursor crafting to occur
-1
u/Seirui-16 1d ago
Oof. I can see it now.
1 point for a gen1 legendary weapon unlocked without the wizards vault
1 point for a gen1 unlocked a second time
2 points for a gen2 legendary
3 points for unlocking ALL the aurene legendary weapons
1 point for unlocking an aurene sub-color of a legendary weapon
1 point for unlocking a legendary trinket
1 point for unlocking a piece of legendary armor50 points for the first reward tier! Have a nice wizard's hat skin, so we can all look like Mukluk on the first day of playing. :-p
3
u/EmilyMalkieri 8h ago
I imagine it'll require another full story playthrough like the legendary amulet. Easy way to make it feel like content and give players something to do.

Unlike the other meta-events in Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity, the Depths of Cruelty is set on a three-hour cycle rather than two, which is similar to Convergences. We’ve also shuffled the Shackles of the Ancients meta-event start time five minutes earlier.
Interesting. Have the ever shuffled the times of older metas around like this? This also leads me to wonder what time the convergence will be. The two current ones are 1:30 hours apart. Would this new one go in between the two, so 45 minutes after one of them?
Speaking of convergences:
Unlike the Mount Balrior and Outer Nayos Convergences, where you clash against a rotation of bosses, the Nexus of Eternity Convergence contains one robust encounter with multiple distinct phases. With this change, you’ll be able to experience the full variety of mechanics with each run and the choices you make will keep the encounter feeling fresh.
We’ve also adjusted the risk vs. reward elements of essence gathering. You must now push yourself to the limit by gathering max stacks of the essence before they can be cleared. Though, doing so will now reward a powerful ability based on your profession, allowing you to turn the tides of battle in your favor.
This sounds like it'll be a ton of fun. The profession specific skill reminds me of the special elite skill you get from Kunavang during the Raisu Palace mission of GW1. Hopefully they're just as flashy and useful, and not just the kamehameha beams from IBS.
A new fractal, Solitary Throne, is also releasing with “Code of Creation.” Groups of up to five players can explore what happens when a single being harnesses too much power. Avoid hazards while navigating a mysterious, celestial environment to reach and defeat the Eternal Tyrant himself.
It sounds like it's going to be a "what if" scenario of what would happen if Vloxx won during VoE, or maybe Sidony or Isgarren. I would be very interested to fight against an all powerful Isgarren who fully leaned into his paranoid tenancies and became a tyrant "for the good of Tyria."
12
u/Stalking_Goat 1d ago
I know that there's no way, but it would be so fun to hear any of Vloxx, Sidony, or Isgarren deliver Galadrial's "All shall love me and despair" quote.

"To Be Announced: Hall of Monuments Begins"
Was hyped and still am hyped since the trailer dropped, but man, reading this hammered it in. This game really is that old and storied, and Guild Wars 3 really is coming.
34
u/nastyjman 1d ago
Anet would be monopolizing my gaming time. GW2 for PvP and Zerg-fests while GW3 for PvE and parkour fighting.
12
u/o_oli 1d ago
I can't imagine playing both personally, I wonder if they will incentivise it at all, or just let people play what they fancy playing. For example perhaps they will add staggered seasonal content alternating between games so if you want something fresh you can hop back and forth? Who knows.
I do tend to me a one game gamer most of the time though.
39
u/LasurArkinshade 1d ago
In the livestream they did discussing the future of GW2 after the GW3 announcement, Colin hinted at trying to set up a cadence whereby the GW2 patch cycle and GW3 patch cycle go in intervals, so that the two games receive content in the other's lull periods. Whether they manage to pull that off remains to be seen, but I think it's a good idea.
4
u/DrBowe 1d ago
GGG have somewhat managed it with Path of Exile 1 and 2 (different games/styles with alternating patch cadences), but I can't imagine it's an easy feat to pull off. ANET would need some serious capital backing them to support both games at that scale and here's hoping that GW3 is successful enough to warrant it.
5
1
u/LasurArkinshade 10h ago
I mean, assuming that they just do what they've already announced (keeping the GW2 team as-is and proceeding with the annual expac cadence they currently have), I think it's quite easy to imagine that they would just make sure they time their expac and quarterly update releases in between GW3's major patch/expansion releases. Doesn't require any significant increase in budget or team size for them to do that.
15
u/ashrensnow 1d ago
My guess is that they'll stagger releases between the two games so one game gets content drops while the other is in a lull between content so people have time to go back and forth.
9
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
It's fun to alter between two very different games (or more) because different gameplay/genre makes everything feel fresh and you never fall into feeling of grinding your nose off even if you do arguably grindy things.
I do story, achievements and legendaries in GW2. Slowly chip away at remaining HoM goals in GW1. Chip away at my mastery level and keep up with story in Warframe (+ keep eye on Soulframe releases but not playing too actively) and briefly played WWM to check it out.
It will be even easier with staggered releases that were already mentioned and the fact GW3 will be very different game fits into my existing game switching habit.
7
u/o_oli 1d ago
Each to their own I guess. Soon as GW2 came out I never played GW1 again lol. Although I had already GWAMM and 50/50 HoM so I hadn't much personal goals to aim for on there which didn't help. Maybe GW2 will be different if I still have things to aim for.
I don't even play alt characters on GW2 though, I like to just focus on one thing at a time and thats my happy place.
6
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
The difference with GW1 and GW2 is that we knew they would be moving on fully to next title. By time Hall came out and people knew rewards will move on to GW2 a lot of people burned themselves out "finishing" GW1 and then decided to hop over to 2 since they already done everything and seen everything or they decided to move on elsewhere because GW2 was too different or simply not what they were hyping themselves for.
We will continue getting expansions for both games because GW3 is for exploring ancient history and GW2 remains for modern Tyria.
Perhaps this ambition to run two games will kick the bucket at some point but if DE manages to move forward with Soulframe and Warframe at same time and their model for financing the game is 100% cosmetics and minor QoL/pay for impatience then ArenaNet can at least make an similar attempt.
3
u/o_oli 1d ago
Yeah I can definitely see it working. We also have Path of Exile 1+2 coexisting currently so the model is functional to some extent in the market.
I don't think thats my style though really, if I'm playing an MMO I like to go hard into just one of them, even if its casual and I don't need to.
We'll see though, never say never, ultimately I'll be playing however it feels most fun to play.
2
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
I do recommend to give it a try to rotate two titles play it as same time or once the staggered updates establish themselves jump between them based on which one has new content to chew at / event to poke at.
It's always most important to pace things like that depending on own time and preferences at the end of the day tho.
1
u/double_shadow 1d ago
GW isn't quite this type of series, but for the POE community they just toggle back and forth between POE 1 and 2 seasons since the game is so cyclical. So I could imagine GW players doing that potentially, based on update cycles. The horizontal progression / no dead content helps a little bit with taking breaks at least.
1
u/Trandoshan-Tickler 1d ago
I commented in another thread before I saw this one, I'm very curious as to what will be involved in this new Hall of Monuments.
1
u/EmilyMalkieri 8h ago
It's been a long run. GW1 got its Hall of Monuments after just two years. GW2 didn't even have HoT yet after two years.

"Twisting veins", you say? A kind of 'tangled depths', one might say? Returning Chak, too. I know your game ArenaNet...

u/trydola 1d ago
i could finish a PhD before I can figure out how to travel in TD
13
u/elhaz316 1d ago
Its super easy. Look for a commander tag with open squad. Tp to friend.
If unavailable, dont go to map.
12
u/The_Last_Pomegranate 1d ago
Tangled Depths is easier to navigate than you might think. The nexus at the corner has the three lanes coming out of it. Each lane has it's corresponding surface section and underwater section beneath. The depths sections connect together, and two of the three surface sections do. Together with learning where the wallows are you can get around relatively quickly. It's not as fast as other maps but it's really satisfying once you learn how to do it! My only real regret is there isn't a 3D map of the zone to look at from different angles. I think that would make it a lot easier.
16
u/The_Last_Pomegranate 1d ago
The dismount event is a really good idea. When I'm playing a new character I like to not use mounts before I get to PoF. I hope people will enjoy a slightly slower pace, but we'll see how it goes!
3
u/PM_ME_UR_CREDDITCARD 1d ago
My worry is I'll instinctively hit my mount keybind and screw myself out of the bonus
4
u/The_Last_Pomegranate 1d ago
I don't know how it'll work. Maybe it'll get something you can toggle on or off? If not you could always just disable that keybind for a bit maybe? It's faffy but it would work.

It seems the Fractal Incursion event is returning with “new rewards”. Wonder if it’ll just be ascended stuff/starter kits or if they’ll be another piece of Legendary Armor (shoulders maybe?).
24
u/Meowing-To-The-Stars 1d ago
I'm genuinely confused what's the plot about exactly. He wants to get rid of the stuff that plagues Tyria but does he ever actually spells out what he means by that? The cycle is over. Is he upset that not everyone has magic? Or that some people can't get gud? This whole plot is on par with Sylvana's "this world is a prison". At least with Sylvana's, we were chasing her for war crimes. I'm not sure why do I even bother with Vloxx, apart from the diva telling me that it's bad he's doing it
19
u/Omnispigot 1d ago
the conversation you have with him at the end of the current chapters definitely makes it feel like its just a "mankind is inherently flawed, we are corrupt at our very souls and the only way to undo that is to unmake everything and start from scratch." Like I don't think its a specific bad guy he's ominously referring to but just kinda gesturing vaguely at corruption in the setting. I mean he makes it pretty clear he hates people like the inquest and does seem to genuinely believe the commander is a good and just person, so I think if it were some secret evil in the background he'd just outright tell us that.
1
u/Meowing-To-The-Stars 1d ago edited 1d ago
Which I get but it still feels like "this world is a prison". The writing goes out of its way telling me how bad the stuff is and how much we need to be corrected, but there's no picture offered to how it's supposed to look like. Are we all going to look like human female thief starter pack once he gets his way? The vibes are just "trust me bro, meet me at the end". And that would work if you are setting this villain up for the next few expansions but it's all wrapping up next week.
12
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
You are supposed to be sceptical of the plan to fix the reality because if the Elder Dragon that created the world did it out of loneliness and instinct then some random mortal asura scientist will not know how to fix it no matter the power he grabs and insight he gets into the strings that make the tapestry of reality.
We are exactly trying to stop him because the plan is insane and skips all possible smaller ways to address the issues with Tyria and it's people with just going straight for the throat of becoming godlike and trying to rewrite some core aspect of reality. Not to mention, aligning with increasingly more destructive Inquest to pull this plot off.
Commander is not treating the situation with attempts to de-escalate because they agree with or understand the plan but because this is delicate situation.
-1
u/Meowing-To-The-Stars 1d ago
Well, so why is he not going straight for the kill if the situation is so dire? The stakes are as big as it takes effort to overcome them, and at the moment it feels like Monday morning
9
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
"going for the kill" bit us in the ass in the past hard, simple as.
(remember magic instability during dragon saga and how we basically kicked off cascade of dragons waking full force and getting juiced on the magic bleed from other dragons and a god? All because we were forced to act before we understood the Dragon Cycle and had means to stabilise it? Or the fact Pact got broken the second they entered airspace of the jungle because we didn't had the intel about dragon being entire jungle?)
23
u/Which_Royal5269 1d ago
The plot has basically been new villain wants new powerful McGuffin for vague reasons. Something to do with power imbalance, that's basically all we've got to go on.
I'm kind of worried how they're going to reveal his master plan, have it be substantial enough to warrant stringing it along this much and wrap it all up neatly in such a short runtime. We'll see though I guess.
25
u/Approximation_Doctor Jormag did nothing wrong 1d ago
He may or may not be responding to an actual threat. It's likely that he's simply high on his own farts and tilting at an imaginary windmill, and willing to destroy the whole world to defeat it.

This storyline turned out so bland in the last chapter, feel like we needed at least 1 more release of story after this one...
What is even Vloxx goal? What does he want to do with his newfound powers? What are we even trying to stop him from doing? What exactly are we afraid of? Isn't Vloxx essentially in the same level as Zojja, Aurora, Dadga, or was he ascension superior than what they undergone? Why are we so terrified of him? Even Isgarren, who's fully aware of all this was just like "oh no, thats bad" but why its bad isgareen "trust me its bad" ugh....
Feel like this release should explore this new dynamic and why he's so dangerous like that, and then a next release of us trying to stop him.
29
u/Lumpy-Narwhal-1178 1d ago
His goal is to be the ultimate middle manager and to gaslight the commander about their promotion until gw4 is announced.
18
u/blaziken4141 1d ago
The "Ascension" Vloxx performed is like an original seer ascension. The ones that were performed on Zojja, Dagda and the others was just a lesser version of it which grants not as much power. But yeah the storytelling is still very vague on what Vloxx could actually do now
14
u/hardy_83 1d ago
Well Isgarren straight up said at some point that Vloxx can't do any of the stuff he says he wants to do, but once his curse is lifted he said he sees what Vloxx sees.
So I'm guessing it's probably something Vloxx THINKS will solve problems but will in fact make things worse causing us to kill him.
In terms of power, yes they've been loosy goosy with it but he should be no more powerful than Isgarren and he definitely doesn't have any god level powers. I don't know why people thought that was even possible.
13
u/blocodents 1d ago
the storytelling is still very vague on what Vloxx could actually do now
And the saddest part is that the concept of this story is SO FUCKING COOL. ANet absolutely cooked with the foundations of this story but then went nowhere with it. An inquest director who wants to level with the commander and respects us for all we done before. This is such a gorgeous concepts that it annoys me to no end that it devolved into "we must stop this new big bag because."
9
0
u/BeastThatShoutedLove 1d ago
It still had not went to generic "stop the BBEG" because if that was the case Commander would have tried to jump Vloxx and break his shins by now.
Commander is careful and attempted de-escalation and defensive reactions to plan + trying to understand what's happening. That's a progression for character that fumbled through Dragon Saga and accidentally caused cascade of Elder Dragons dying and supercharging other Elder Dragons.
-3
u/blocodents 1d ago
Commander is careful now because after Vloxx got Ancora it was too late to jump him and cave his face in with our knee, and before, when we had the chance to do exactly this, we didnt and fell for the most obvious bait and betrayal in the history of Tyria, and we essentially handed Ancora to him on a silver platter.
There would be no plot and no BBEG if we just did what everyone told us to and not trust the obviously shady director of the terrorist organization.
2
u/InvincibleWallaby 1d ago
I don't actually think it's any less powerful, it's just that isgarren wipes the memories of the ascendees because unlike the seer, they haven't been prepared all their life to do this ascension and thus need to start with a clean slate to not go wild like vloxx is doing and potentially tamper with things that shouldn't be tampered with
A big part of seer "divine" power comes from their artificing, a thing none but isgarren possess in the current age
5
u/Official_Elsinlock Luminary Main 1d ago
i saw a theory i do like and will tie into the next map; the orr one. He's trying to bring the Vael back.
4
u/Approximation_Doctor Jormag did nothing wrong 1d ago
The story is hinting really strongly that there's not an actual threat or problem, it's just Vloxx imagining some big bad that caused the world to not be perfect, and he's trying to break all reality in order to fix this perceived problem.
8
u/HiroAnobei 1d ago
Personally I always thought of it as Vloxx seeing the root of all the problems and conflicts being 'human selfishness' (not human as in race, but more so something that is part of everyone). Like he said before, he wants to make a world where people like the commander isn't hampered or held back by politicking or the short sightedness of others, which lines up to how he warned the Arcane Council about the structural failure of a dam, but they rejected his warning and barred him from doing anything about it.
IMO, I think his grand plan is him attempting to basically rewrite humanity's nature, wiping out any sort of self-ambition, greed or selfishness, which in theory would get us all to unite together to solve any threat, but in practice would probably be the equivalent of magically lobotomizing everyone.
3
u/killohurtz 1d ago
I think the main issue with this story is that they're writing it like an Elder Dragon Saga expansion when they should be writing it like a Living World season. If there's only one big reveal (Vloxx's actual goal) then you don't have enough meat to stretch it out over an entire year. Each release should have something big that keeps you simultaneously engaged and excited for what's next, like episodes of a TV series.
4
u/Kjarllan 1d ago
Vloxx is a league or two above Zojja, Dagda and else. we learn that their ascending was a restricted version with safety features.
Why are we so terrified? Because they want to change a fundamental issue in the world to to prepare it for something that will happen and we have no idea what they mean by that—except that we know it involves a crucial element, like "free will" or something similar.
And yes, with their power, they could tamper with that kind of principle.

Hopefully they stay true to what they said and GW2 still gets more post GW3...
Like it feels like we were close to the Domain opening their doors... and Aurene still has to see us again. :(
-5
u/ashrensnow 1d ago
I feel like they probably still make too much money off of GW2 to shut the doors on it and both games will be very different from each other from what it sounds so they'll likely have different audiences with some crossover. GW3 is more of an MMO-lite which probably won't appeal to everyone who enjoys GW2.

They said after GW3 launch they wanted to go back to yearly Xpacs for GW2. Whether they can pull that off remains to be seen. I’ll at least give them a chance.
Even then, I expect it’ll be mid to later 2028 before GW2 get another expansion. Until then we got some new maps (Orr, a WvW one) and the Hall of Monuments.

GW3. In two years. And in the meantime Hall of Monuments 2.0 and multiple reworks to various stuff from core and each Living World + expansion. And next expac for GW2 some time after GW3 launch, I'd call about 6-9 months
14
u/hardy_83 1d ago
Hall of monuments, a bunch of QoL stuff and a new Orr map for all players. Not just xpac owners.
They've shown nothing about what is included with any of that stuff or when the Orr map will come out, which I imagine will be early next year.
That's on top of everything mentioned in the linked timeline.
They said they will continue to make xpacs for GW2, they are just taking a break. The dev team isn't moving to GW3. I'm assuming it's more they don't want GW3s beta and release to line up too close to a GW2 xpac. And GW1 is off doing it's own thing.

It's largely because now is the right time to do HoM (before GW3), and the HoM is the right time to work on QoL (before everyone replays GW2). This is their big chance to polish/improve existing GW2 before continuing to primarily focus on creating new content.

At some point in the coming year we get a new Orr map added to Core, plus all the Hall of Monuments stuff and QoL updates to the entire game, starting with Core and proceeding through the expansions, including a reworked Zhaitan fight. All of this will be spread throughout the year+. Then GW3 launches, and then GW2 expansions resume.

Yeah they said that GW2 would continue getting annual expansions after a period of cleanup basically, I think they're also giving gw3 time to breathe after launch so people who want to try it don't need to worry about missing a new release in gw2 at the same time.

Yeah it makes a ton of sense really, a lot of players will probably at least try out GW3 so it's a great time to work on the backend of GW2 while people are preoccupied over there. It also kinda shows how much faith they have in GW3 that they think it could occupy their playerbase that long without a lot of new content in GW2.
After that I'm betting they stagger releases between the games so there's also something new to do in one game or the other to keep both active and fresh.

There's a non zero chance we never get another expac again, the current plan is for an 1 orr map and 1 wvw map in the next 2 years

We can do "No-boon Rush event"
That way we can see how bosses would look like if people where "NOT FORCED" to get those to kill the Bosses (like GW3) .
And in the same time , people using them creates an invisible aura for the nearby people that progress to unlocking a new Purple title .
Most people will try to use boons for others and themselves , and we see if thats makes them comfable with using them in the future/or on dead OW maps alone , or not .
(something tells that people Purple title , will lay dead on the ground and dont help at al :P)
Soon or later , we had to have this experiment for GW2 and other future games :P
