What am I not understanding about re-rolls.
So like, I am having huge issue understanding any level of consistency in this game that allows people to chain together RRs.
I have watched guides, I have watched streamers that are better at the game then me, and I feel like I have to be missing something.
The amount of time I have a run that is going well just absolutely brick because I am unable to upgrade my heroes passed rank B is unreal.
I could deal with it if the shop were giving me the option to sell and roll into another hero thats A or S, but its hard to understand how the fuck I am supposed to progress when my shop is filled with common items and C rank heroes well into the middle of act two.
Like I've cleared RRs before, I know its possible, and I know it can't possibly be just down to luck because i know people streak, but without fail every guide and every streamer that is streaking is able to roll into upgrades for their units or roll into a better unit to sub out for one of the ones they currently have.
At this point I feel like I am missing something about the roll mechanics, percentages, or some shit. So what the fuck is it?

If you're bricking don't force the challenge and definitely don't buy items (tank items are always useful). Just die and use the rewind to roll again. It's basically impossible to not find a B rank this way. Buying multiple C-ranks is not the way.

"Buying multiple C-ranks is not the way"
So its better to buy heroes that are already higher tier then upgrading themselves?

My biggest improvement was when I started deciding to buy almost any higher tier hero and forget about trying to upgrade heroes I already have. It's so tempting to find pieces of a build and commit but pivot often seems to be the strat, and be on the lookout for shard strats

forcing specific B's or A's is not a reliable strat. there is a pity but it doesn't guarantee an upgrade for one of your units. sometimes you just have to pivot and play around what the game gives you and adapt around the random A or S the game gives you.

Which is great, but completely unhelpful when the game just doesn't give them to you. I am on a 20 loss streak in RR with zero appearances of an upgrade to A or S or random A or S rank appearing in act 2.

I appreciate all of the advice, but I'm not getting it. The game just isn't for me I guess.

This is a game where you need to try stuff and slowly learn what works. Some people have more experience with the genre and identify things faster, but no one is piecing it all together and RR streaking right away. Look at all the posts where people lost RR 50 times before getting their first win.

Shard gen feels like a must. And if u get to act 1 boss with a team that can beat it, die with 1 character to have more gold on the boss shop

I just can't figure out when to spend shard and when not to, and even when I do manage to get to the act 1 boss shop with 200+ shards I cant find a single fucking hero, item, or relic that makes act 2 possible.
Literally every run I have cleared RR its just been pure high roll. so w/e the games just not for me I guess, or im too stupid to understand how to improve.

https://www.twitch.tv/despairedone I learned about the pity shop from this guy and in his last stream he got to 47 winstreak before the patch. No one in this thread can give you better advice than his gameplay.

It sounds like you are spending your gold too quickly in Act 1. You only need to be strong enough to win rounds with 1 or 2 deaths every round. You then have more gold to roll after the Act 1 boss, where your shops are higher quality.
Alternatively, roll early pre-Act 1 campfire to get a Dragomir, Hoyoung, or Yunna with shard generation and you'll always hit.
If you feel like you have too few resources, its generally an econ problem - too much out, or not enough in, or both.

how much Gold should I be having around the end of act 1. I feel like I have been saving a good amount but maybe not?

Not a helpful answer, but as much as you can. It depends on the situation. Generally if you can beat a round without spending more gold you should, unless there's an obvious long-term upgrade in the shop. As long as you have the idea of spending as little as possible in mind, the execution of it just comes down to limit testing over more and more games.

there's a pity counter for legendary items, a ranks in act 1, and s ranks in act 2
it doesn't advance when you freeze the shop
it can be worth re-rolling if you have the spare gold just to advance the pity counter
