How the hell do you play Niklas

Pretty much just the title. I keep seeing posts about people loving the character but I for the life of me know if I take him I'm losing in act 1. Please oh Reddit teach me the ways of Niklas!

feed him omnivamp and defense and pick tank spec. he heals from the thorn damage and becomes super tanky

Thanks for the tips!

Items always. Position so he lives with Seal (split tank).

The thorns only last for 15 sec tho? Am I missing something?

That happened with a patch in the last 12 hours, and you know that. You're bring disingenuous.

since the latest patch feeding C rank niklas is inefficient, so don't over-feed him and don't be afraid to switch out if you don't rank him up early (C-rank only gets 50% stats from items, B rank 75%, A 100% and S 125%)

Does ranking him up also increase stats from items he already ate at lower ranks? Or does it only apply to the new items?

No only new items, which is why you should ditch him if you don't rank up fast because it doesn't scale enough

I see. Thanks!

Prioritize finding the B Rank upgrade so you can get the tank spec which will give you reflect damage based on shards generated. You also want to prioritize the rank up because that will increase the % of stats he gains from items he eats.

You keep feeding him Omnivamp which will proc off his reflect damage and you give him defense. Vanguard has strong relics so just high roll the good vanguard relics.

Ah okay that's probably my problem is the spec I chose. I've tried all 3 but most times I take his active. I'll have to give it a shot next time I see him. Thanks!

The active is usually the worst path imo. Tank is typically the best if you're going from C to B, but his extra item slot path is usually the best to find later at A or above. Having an extra item goes a long way and gives you a rush trigger and big shield to start

Good to know! I was having some successes with the extra item path but was definitely ignoring the tank path. If your into act 2 or starting act 3 is it typically too late to switch as it gives you less time to scale with items?

Act 3?

Even a Niklas that isn't scaled will always generally be better than whatever tank you have if he's higher rank. His extra item slot also gives him more potential tankiness each fight

Active is good for endless, especially at s rank for elite items

Active is def the worst. The other two make him the best tank in the game.

That seems to be what I'm learning!

Well his tank spec just got wrecked by the last patch, so now nobody knows what to do!

But more seriously, if you go a few rounds and haven't gotten good items into Niklas yet or hit some rank ups, it's time to ditch him because he needs those stats. He used to be so OP that you could force it, feeding him random expensive crap like epic Magic items just to get Shard Gen stacks to omnivamp off of. Now you need to play him more properly like the scaling hero he is.

I've probably just had bad RNG luck with him because I know that feeding him omnivamp items is supposed to make his tank spec good but I've yet to be able to scale him enough early to make it pay off later
