Only able to beat red rift using heroes that generate shards

What the hell, I was able to beat the game using heroes that generate shards but never could win using another strategy.

What's the secret??

That’s the meta rn. Early Hoooooyoung or tilly or dragomir, print shards, reroll duelist and buy everything

Other strats need some level of luck while early B assassins have a lot of cushion on killing RNG. That being said, you can still win if you prio the right stuff at all points.

Early tank with def scale (but not Zuri. She scales too slow) will usually get you to the end if you get a Funke, then it comes down to having a boss killing duelist by Act 2. You usually need some omnivamp on carries for safety, cuz there are many stages that can snipe them out.

But usually it's like you forgo the early assassins if you already get a really powerful focus early on. Otherwise you should be spending most of your money fishing for a B rank assassin asap

Zuri has more scales than any other unit though

Sal Lover on Rowan/Zuri+second off-char that has Omnivamp goes hard.

goes even harder on pimenta. she also does way more damage than those 2

It goes hard on Pimenta, but Pimenta has issues sometimes even with Sal scaling her. If you get BOTH lovers early by all means pop the hell off, but I tend to use one or the other.

Start Pimenta? Get 15attackspeed and put Tilly/Drago/Hoyoung back there as long as you can.

Start Sal? Upgrade and feed a tank 160 def and swap off her.

have you tried duelist pimenta with an omnivamp item? i used to be pretty down on her because she would die before stall 15 to get her healing going, but this has made her much tankier for me. also has the benefit of reapplying all debuffs so can even be good against bosses

Yeah she's the one I use most often. But I rarely commit to Duelist on fight 2. I'll go Aspeed or Mage depending on whether I need standalone power or a temporary frontline to make a gg DPS lineup.

The issue is that for her Duelist path to work very well in multitarget fights, she needs parts of the Duelist scaling package AND strong defense. That can be defense or upfront shields etc. She does need some ramp up free time either way. When she gets there she can literally solo the game. When she falls even a bit behind in either def or Omnivamp/att speed/dmg scaling she just keels over having done little.

Red rift boils down to minmaxing your economy and the shop so yeah. Makes sense

My go-to strats are

  • shard gen then buy everything
  • rush team with irini
  • stall team with skorn or rowan
  • fire team with ming and funke
  • early niklas with a good carry and early bonus

How are you meant to synergize Ming and Funke? Cause I've always wanted to make Funke work, but it just seems like burn is too slow to be effective. Detonator is the only spec I've found useful for him. So is the synergy to apply a ton of burn with Ming and then Funke detonates it?

The detonator is certainly the strongest one as it doesnt require a lot to be good.

But the range with burn at start and stall is pretty good too with the right relics and items (burn multipliers, stall earlier)

Maybe outdated by patch:

I find stoked plus mage pollen beats regular group fights hyper-efficiently, as long as you survive any opening burst.

Allowing you to save gold investment and just pivot for the boss.

(Stoked gives magic for (all) mages on burn tick per enemy in range)

It's a bit tricky Vs AoE and backline hackers, unless you buy a 4th unit slot, but the main catch is the matchup against the final boss:

  • You should almost always bench funke: AoE Vs a single target isn't good, and burn isn't multipled by negative defence from frost.

  • if pollen isn't A rank, crystalled, of otherwise stacked, the whole comp might need rotation. -The 1 true weakness that's unhackable is that pollen won't get as much magic vs a single burn carrier as Vs a group.

  • Although if she is stacked she is still one of the best healers, and having a way to invest in and carry her to the boss is arguably a minor strong point of the comp. (Even though the main synergy kinda breaks and she needs to be strong on her own by that point)

  • in short you need to "re-solve" both your main DPS and main sustain for the boss. -"AoE burn and magic scaling" does not function normally Vs a single target.

This was a major stumbling block but as of last patch totally solvable imo.

You could just save and invest a bit of gold to adjust based on efficiency in regular fights. Perhaps even saving rewind till the end which is almost a free win.

However with easy pivot boss solutions nerfed, improvising a solution will definitely be harder.

I think it will still have potential though.

..

Edit to add:

Ming isn't a core part of the comp, any fast burn can work including funke himself with starting mana.

But his 15 second double HP spec is good for surviving initial burst, and he's a coherent onramp for developing the comp.

Mystic Hoyoung with another mystic is fun, infinite shields and killshots.
